I really love Soap and Glory products, and I'm lucky enough to have a mum that works for the manufacturers and can pick the products up very cheaply in the staff shop, which she then passes on to me. One of the products she gave me recently, and one that I have utterly fallen in love with is their Smoothie Star deep moisture body milk.
This comes in a clear plastic pump action bottle, with the easily recognisable Soap and Glory colours of pink, black, and cream and a typically retro design. The front of the package features a picture of a smoothie in a tall 50s style milkshake glass, along with the information that features a waterlock moisture trapping matrix, and that this contains almond, cocoa, oats, brown sugar, yoghurt and honey. The back of the pack gives you usage instructions and also informs you that this product pairs beautifully with 'Rich and Foamous' and 'The Breakfast Scrub'. I found this -information very useful, as Soap and Glory scents fall into one of two camps for me - either warm and milky, or fresh and fruity.
You use this much as you would any other body milk - simple smooth it all over your skin paying attention to any particularly dry parts. I find that this does soak in easily, despite having a reassuring thickness - this isn't runny at all, so doesn't make any mess when applied. I did find that I had to use a little more of this that I do with some other body milks, but it does feel more luxurious massaging it in.
Now, the list of ingredients on the front make it sound good enough to eat, and it certainly smells it too, though rather than being able to pick up each individual scent, what I smell when I use this is warm buttered popcorn and hot vanilla scented milk. I love it, there is something warm and comforting in the smell, although I could see that some people might find it a little sickly. The smell lingers for a long time too - you can massage this in at 8 in the morning, and still pick up a hint of it at4 in the afternoon.
I'm usually not great at remembering to use body lotions and milks regularly, but this one I have been using daily for almost two weeks, usually in the morning after a shower, but also occasionally getting my boyfriend to massage it in at night to help send me off to sleep. My skin is softer and in better condition, especially my elbows which have a tendency to be quite dry and cracked normally, so it has definitely done me some good, and I'll certainly carry on using this until the bottle is empty.
A bottle of this costs £10 for 500ml ( available from Boots or Harvey Nichols). That is more than I would normally spend on myself for cosmetics and beauty products, but I will ask my mum to keep an eye out for more in the staff shop, and if she doesn't see any before this runs out, I shall buy myself another bottle, as I absolutely love it. My only slight criticism is that, if you like wearing perfume or using other scented products, it can interfere with the scent a little.
Soap and Glory has become by favourite luxury bath range so when there was a 3 for 2 offer on a few weeks ago I decided to treat myself. I thought I'd try different types this time and instead of the Righteous Butter I decided to try the Smoothie Star body lotion. It cost £10.00 for the 500ml bottle from Boots.
I love the packaging for all the Soap and Glory stuff and the clever names they give all the products. This one is no exception and comes in a nice big bottle with a press dispenser on the top and the lotion comes out of this really easily and gives you a bit more control than having to tip the bottle upside down etc. There is a full wrap label on the bottle with a lovely girly label with lots of pink and cream colours and a big picture of a Smoothie in a glass behind the writing. Overall the packaging is excellent and makes owning and using the product even better.
Firstly I'll talk about the fragrance...to be honest I'm still undecided on whether I actually like the smell and I think its one of those smells you have to be in the mood for so sometimes I love it, other times not so much. The product contains cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, yoghurt and honey. This sounds like it would be quite mellow but its actually very sweet. The closest thing I could relate it to is sweetened popcorn and vanilla milkshake. If I'm in the right mood I love the smell and really enjoy it, but other times its just too sickly and makes me feel like I've just eaten a whole bag of sweets...quickly! However the smell is a lot how you would imagine a vanilla and coconut Smoothie so its what it says on the tin.
The lotion is cream in colour and has the perfect texture, it is thick, not body butter thick but thick for a liquid body lotion. It spreads easily over the skin and soaks in really well. Despite it being thick it doesn't feel greasy at all and it doesn't take long to dry, therefore within minutes of applying it I can get dressed. It is very moisturising and I can literally see the change in colour on my legs after using it, from grey and dry to revitalised and glowing. It also feels quite soothing. Because of the strong fragrance it isnt worth using this on sore, open or irritated skin though.
The moisturised feeling lasts well, if I use this before bed my skin still feels hydrated the next morning. It goes quite a long way so I don't ever use that much each time and the bottle seems to be lasting really well. I don't use this all the time though, £10.00 is far too much for an everyday body lotion in my opinion so I use it occasionally as a treat (and when I can handle the fragrance!!)
I'd recommend this lotion as a luxury option to use as a treat. If you're not into sickly fragrances then stay away! But for everyone else its worth a try and is a great quality product that really works and does what it says on the tin!
I love nearly all of Soap & Glory's products but one of my absolute favourites is the Breakfast Scrub mainly because of it's effects on my skin but also because of the completely delicious aroma that came with it. When I found out that Soap & Glory had put this mouth watering scent into a body milk, I got more excited than I probably should have done about a body milk!!
What does the product do?
The milk promises to moisturise the skin and to leave it feeling soft and smooth. It contains both Cocoa Butter and Shea butter to nourish and hydrate the skin. The addition of Coconut and Almond oil makes this product definitely not one for those with nut allergies. It contains a special 'moisture trapping matrix' which helps the skin hold onto this new found moisture. It also has the additional ingredients of almond, oats and brown sugar which give it the deliciously edible aroma... except it is NOT edible! But it does smell like a delicious bowl of syrupy porridge.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to dry, clean skin. It can be massaged generously into the skin all over the body until it has been fully absorbed and it can be reapplied as often as required.
Packaging and Price
The product comes packaged in a bottle that resembles some of their larger body wash products. The bottle is transparent and plastic so you can see the product inside. It has a label on the front and back which gives some additional information about the product in the usual retro way. It has a pump dispenser at the top of the bottle which you push down on in order to release the milk. The product will cost you around £10 for 500ml of the milk although the Soap & Glory products are frequently on a three for two offer in Boots. The product is also available from a few online websites.
Application and Performance
The product is a creamy coloured lotion which has the consistency of a lotion. It's not very thick but I didn't expect it to be with milk in the title. A reasonable amount comes out with each pump of the dispenser and a few pumps gives you a handful to apply to the body. The aroma of the product is evident straight away and it is really delicious. It is so syrupy and sweet and it is so tempting to lick a bit (which I didn't... honestly!) but it isn't edible so don't try it. The milk does absorb quite quickly into the skin and leaves behind nothing but a healthy sheen. It doesn't irritate my skin or make it feel uncomfortable, greasy or unclean.
The product does remove feeling of tightness and dryness straight away. It makes my skin feel quite soft and smooth, although you do need to use quite a bit to feel really soft. It isn't powerful enough to make much of a difference to tricky spots like my knees or elbows but I wouldn't really expect a milk to be able to manage that. It's effects are quite long lasting and my skin still feels hydrated by the time I get home after using the product in the morning. The gorgeous and completely delicious aroma stays on my skin for a long time and I've had plenty of complements about it, although it's definitely not going to be up everyone's street so it'll be well worth trying before you buy.
All in all, this is a great light moisturiser suitable for daily use. It helps to hydrate my skin and to leave it feeling softer and smoother instantly. The smell is the main selling point for me which smells like syrup mixed with porridge which doesn't sound like something which would work on a skin but it does! I would happily repurchase this but it could be a bit cheaper
