Advantages: Cleanes & Moisturises Skin and Smells Lovely.
Disadvantages: Doesn't really lather up much.
Over Christmas I somehow managed to accumulate an awful lot of Soap and Glory products as I've already told you in a previous review. When looking through all these products the other night I discovered I actually had two of some of them which made me realise maybe I shouldn't have told so many people I liked this range! There were three products I had two of and one of them was Soap and Glory's Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel.
The Brand
The Soap and Glory range is stocked in Boots and Harvey Nichols stores although I always tend to buy it from my local Boots store where it can be found down one of the toiletry aisles. The range is very much focused on women and is centred mainly upon body care products including shower gels, exfoliators and moisturisers. More recently they have introduced a facial skin care range boasting cleansers and moisturisers for the face.
The product range very much reminds me of the Benefit make up range which is also sold in the same stores. Many of you women out there will have viewed or at least heard of the Benefit range and come to understand the rather humorous and unique names given to their products, as well as the detailed and fancy packaging. Soap and Glory has similarly named products including Flake Away Body Scrub to Wash Your Hands of It Soap.
The Product
The Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel comes in a clear plastic bottle with a pump dispenser on the top allowing you to simply pump up and down to release the shower gel. The bottle is clear but is tinted a very light pink by the colour of the gel inside it. The bottle has a large label on the front which is pink and features the brand logo as well as an old fashioned black and white picture of a woman hiding behind a shower curtain.
There is plenty of advertising material on the label including the large title "Clean On Me" and the claim that "Yes you can have it all... soft, smooth sexy skin whenever you want it." The motto "Cleanliness is essential when godliness is improbable" is also displayed on one side while the other side boasts instructions on how to use the product and an ingredients list. All in all it's quite eye catching and sits nicely on my bathroom shelf.
The shower gel itself is very pale pink in colour and has a lightly floral fragrance to it that smells quite fruity and invigorating when in the shower. It's a really pleasant smell that does smell quite strong in the bottle but once it's out and in the shower it's just a fresh, fruity and rejuvenating smell. In terms of thickness it is much thicker than your typical shower cream or gel, it's more like a shaving gel or a body butter.
The instructions on the bottle recommend that you apply a handful of the product to damp skin, now how you can get damp skin and not wet skin in the bath or shower I'm not sure. They also suggest you turn off the shower to stop the product being washed away too quickly and to gain the very best from it. Then they tell you to rub it into a thick, luxurious lather and then rinse it thoroughly off your skin afterwards.
The Application
So onto the actual application of the product... the first good thing to point out is the pump down lid which dispenses the gel, this is absolutely brilliant and saves you messing around with slippery bottles or unscrewing lids at all. You simply need to pump down about two or three times to release a small blob of the product into your hand, I find this is enough to cover the top half of my body and repeat it for the lower half.
As the instructions suggested I always turn off the shower to avoid the product being washed away, this would mean that you probably couldn't use it as effectively in the bath but then again it is a "shower" gel and not a bath gel. It gives off a lovely fruity aroma that is enticing but not overpowering and rubs in effortlessly into my skin. It actually feels like you are rubbing a moisturising cream in rather than a shower gel.
Now for the disappointing factor... although the shower gel rubs in really easily and smells lovely, it just doesn't lather up at all really. I like a shower gel that will create bubbles and lather when I'm using it and this one just doesn't at all. I've always associated shower gels with lots of lather but in this case it doesn't hit the spot. Yet it does thoroughly clean my skin and once I've washed it off it feels really smooth and soft in the shower.
The Result
After drying myself off I could still smell the lovely scent of the shower gel and its moisturising effects were very evident. Normally after a shower I tend to moisturise on a twice weekly basis (or whenever I can be bothered) to keep my skin soft yet this shower gel meant that I didn't have to bother. My skin did feel really moisturised and soft, as if I'd already moisturised. There was no dryness or stickiness in sight either which was good. The scent of the product did fade after about three or four hours but the moisturised feeling remained with me throughout the night.
My Opinion
I really like this shower gel and would give it four out of five stars; it does loose one unfortunately due to the lack of lather it created in the shower. It's priced at £4.89 for a 500ml bottle which is actually really cheap considering most shower gels are only 200ml bottles and are typically priced at between £2 and £3 for a Dove or a Simple one. I tend to use mine every other night to give my skin a boost and feel that if I continue to do so the bottle will easily last me about three months in total making it a really good buy. The signature scent and the unique bottle styling both make this a great product to have adorning your bathroom shelves. The shower gel is advertised as giving you "clean, smooth, sexy skin simultaneously" and it certainly follows through on this claim. A great buy!
Thanks for reading.
