Advantages: Cheap, smells delightful, quickly absobs, long lasting effects
Disadvantages: None at all
A lot of my time at work is spent typing away on a keyboard, photocopying pieces of paper, stuffing envelopes, printing numerous pieces of work on photocopies and risographs and should I get the dreaded beeps from any of the machines in my office to tell they have got a paper jam or worse, I have to fix to them. All of that takes it toll on my hands and they often become dry and that leads to further problems. One of the main roles within my job is meeting and greeting people from all walks of the life and the last thing I would want to do is shake hands with someone and have dry, chapped and raw skin on my hands. I prefer my hands to be well moisturised, soft and smooth to the touch.
I usually keep a tub of hand cream in my desk drawer, lately my top desk drawer has become a bit of a beauty salon with one product and another slowly being added in case of emergencies and as my current hand cream Lush Helping Hands has run out I walked into Boots to look for something to use until I could get to Lush and buy another tub, and walked out with Hand Food from Soap & Glory which I bought using the points I had saved up on my card, so it actually cost me nothing and is therefore a bit of a bargain.
The Soap & Glory range has a large selection of products ranging from shower gels and bath foams to lip glosses, hair products and creams for most parts of the body including scrubs and exfoliating creams. As well as the lovely packaging one of the main reasons I like the Soap & Glory range is because they are sold at high street prices and are available in Boots and Harvey Nichols mainly. The Soap & Glory range is also not tested on animals.
Hand Food is sold with the blurb "The most astonishing hand cream ever? You decide" and that I will... if ever a challenge like that is bestowed before me I shall endeavor to accept it and make my comments known. Anything I wrote in this review has already been sent to the Soap & Glory headquarters. The tube of Hand Food that I purchased contains 50ML of the product and cost me the equivalent of £2.20 in Boots points. The tube itself hosts a pink flip top lid and is devoid of those black and white 50's looking poses that a lot of the products contain. On the front of the tube I am told that the hand cream is a non-greasy hand cream which contains Shea butter, macadamia Oil and marshmallow whilst finally mentioning that it is 'fabulous' next to the Soap & Glory logo.
Flipping the lid on this tub, an easy enough task, you need only to squeeze the tube slightly to release the cream and as soon as the cream hits the palm of your hand you can immediately smell the sweet aroma which for me is the Shea Butter and the Macadamia oils. You only need a small 10p sized blob of this hand cream which is more than amply for both hands and as you massage the cream into your hands admittedly it is non-greasy and it absorbs itself in the skin with minimal effort. Now you can use this cream as often as you feel it is necessary, I tend to use it as soon as I get into the office if I haven't had time to apply hand cream at home before coming to work and mid way through the day but only if my hands are particularly dry. The one thing about this cream which I found to be absolutely brilliant is that it instantly moisturises and softens the skin and my hands remain soft for a good few hours after I have used the hand cream. So if my hands are not in need of any major pampering then I use this cream once a day, otherwise I use it several times a day as and when I feel it is necessary. I also keep it either in my desk drawer which is out of direct sunlight or I sometimes put it in the fridge which I find extra soothing on my hands when I use it.
The aroma from this hand cream is simply divine and it stays evident upon the skin for many hours after using. Shea Butter is one of the main ingredients and as soon as it penetrates the skin it leaves it feeling soft and smooth. Shea Butter also contains both vitamin A, E both which help to moisturise and keep your skin healthy. Macadamia oil absorbs itself quickly into the skin and is a very good emollient which in English means it helps to soften and soothe the skin and is particularly beneficial for dry, scaly skin. Emollients are often referred to in products such as lip-balms, hand lotions, lipsticks and body lotions in which oils such as Macadamia oil is used. Sweet Almond Oil is a further ingredient and in its capacity within this hand cream it is emollient and is again used to soften and soothe the skin whilst at the same time helping to balance the loss and absorption of moisture which stops the skin on your hands from drying and becoming troublesome. There are a lot more ingredients to be found within this hand cream, most of which can be looked in to as I always do and can be found listed on the back of the products tube.
I am really impressed with this hand cream, for what should have cost £2.20 it does leave your hands feeling soft and it is really soothing especially if it has been chilled for a time before using. It smells delightful which is always an added bonus and this tube which I have now had for 3 weeks is still over half full and I used it daily at the minute, so it lasts a long time as well. So for an inexpensive hand cream which leaves you with soft, smooth and well moisturised hands, Hand Food is certainly a good choice. Overall I was really impressed with this product, it is something I will definitely keep in my cupboard or on my shelf for emergencies.
