Advantages: Non greasy body lotion
Disadvantages: doesn't quite last 24 hours
Growing older I realised that my skin needs more attention and although I have used body lotions for many years I now need a good product to keep my skin feeling moisturised and soft. A few weeks ago I did my weekly shop in the small town where I live rather than driving further to Tesco as we didn't require very much with going away on holiday. I didn't have such a good choice in Somerfields but found something in the St Ives range that I thought would fit the bill.
St Ives is a Swiss company and I have used their products before, the bottle is white plastic with a plain label showing the snow covered Swiss mountains in blue and white trimmed with narrow silver lines. It says 24 Hour Moisture and shows a clock, also a small picture of a pestle and mortar with some herbs and some information that this product is for dry skin and contains "HydrateinTM" to retain moisture all day.
On the back of the bottle the label tells you how to discover the swiss secrets of healthy looking, soft skin, claiming that HydrateinTM not only replenishes moisture but retains it all day. Also that 94% of women who tried it, love it! Plus daily use will prevent seriously dry from recurring.
Am I one of the 94%?
I shower every morning and then apply some body lotion. The directions say to smooth into skin, paying close attention to areas prone to dry skin. I flicked the plastic cap open with my thumb, quite easy to do so full marks for cap opening. My bottle is 400ml and although I can grip it easily within my fingers and thumb, I did find it hard to hold as it is quite heavy and slightly slippy, shapely bottles do tend to be easier to hold. I squirted some lotion onto my hand, it was thick and creamy and held its shape. I would say it is more of a cream than a lotion. There is a slight floral fragrance but not over powering, which becomes slightly more obvious as I apply the lotion and then fades again, so I can only smell it if I sniff at my arm. It is absorbed easily and isn't greasy but leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised. I would say YES, I love it, so I agree with the 94% of women. But does it last 24 hours? Well I'm not so convinced, I think the moisturising affect does fade in time, although my skin still feels soft and quite moisturised when I go to bed about 15 hours later, but not as good as at the start. It is certainly better than more expensive brands I have tried, and my skin still feels quite good in the morning. Overall an excellent product, and the fragrance doesn't affect my perfume.
What's in it?
If you like natural products then this one should please you as it contains more than 90% naturally derived ingredients including glacial water and Swiss botanicals. There are extracts of several flowers and a huge range of ingredients.
Cost?
It is worth shopping around for, as it is priced £2.88 in Tesco at the moment and you can buy two items for the price of one. It is £3.98 in Sainsbury and sadly I paid £4.35, so I would have saved some money on one product alone towards my petrol!
Summary: Good body lotion for dry skin

- 14/05/09 Oh the dreaded Swiss formula claims.. I used their shampoo many moons ago and it left me with such an itchy scalp, I never used it again, then I tried a facial wash, another claimed "Swiss formula," and that too was rather abrasive. I'll leave this product to you though - sounds like it works. |
