Advantages: New product smells floral and pleasant - seems to colour more evenly too
Disadvantages: still fades a little patchy but think they all do
I have been a St Tropez devotee for years now, I love its colour and the fact that its so easy to apply. In fact one of my first reviews for dooyoo was for the whipped bronze mousse. In this review, I mentioned that one of the disadvantages was the smell - people compare it to stale biscuits and it's just horrible. The colour is great but the smell lingers, but as all fake tans smell, I just kind of put up with it...until now!
2009 saw St Tropez releasing new improved versions of their best selling products. As well as sleek new black on white packaging, there were major improvements to the smell. It claimed to have a pleasant fragrance - hmmm I thought, I am a bit sceptical, I will have to try this for myself!
I bought a 240ml bronzing mousse on ebay for £18 - I never buy from the shops as you can save a fortune using ebay (its £27.60 on amazon even).
The first thing I noticed was the difference in packaging, the tube seems flimsier than the sturdy old version however it's not a big deal and doesn't impact on the product.
Secondly the pump dispenser isn't as sensitive as the old one - meaning you have to press hard and you get a big blob, whereas before you could just press lightly and get a small amount if desired.
Again, not a big deal but a mini thumbs down for me.
After shaking the bottle well, I applied the mousse using gloves. As always it's easy to apply, you can see where you have put it and it goes on relatively streak free.
The claims of pleasant fragrance are really not exaggarated Im so so glad to report! Now instead of stale biscuits, it has a floral light fragrance that you is not overpowering but there is definitely no hint of nastiness. It smells as if you are wearing a light body lotion. I wondered whether the initial floraly scent would wear off in a couple of hours or so but by morning I still smelled like a bouquet!
Leaving it overnight I showered in the morning and it revealed a golden bronze colour which was extremely even and to date, long lasting. I applied on Monday then again on Wednesday and by Sunday it was still going strong.
In comparison with the old version, I think it delivers a more even finish and long lasting result. It does still fade patchy in places, and when they finally conquer that little problem they will have the perfect fake tan in their grasp.
Until now, I am just happy with the fragrance improvement - St. Tropez have played a blinder!!
Summary: A really significant improvement on what was already pretty great
