Summers here! And it’s the time I start rushing out to stock up on the fake tan … ok so fake tan … I know what you thinking! Orangey, gunky, streaky hey but fake tan can look good. Preparation Application and most importantly a good Fake Tan are all the ingredients you need to make yourself look fabulous! I have used many types of tan … Clarins, Body Shop, Elisabeth Arden, Lancôme (try their flash bronzer for the face it develops in 1 hour and looks fab! ) Rimmel, no 7, and I can solemnly swear you get what you pay for. There is a great difference between the cheaper tans and the more expensive ones but it’s a personal choice and if you can spend more money on such a thing it is better off in the long run and the results can turn out better. I first saw St. Tropez in Heat magazene I was sitting there ficking through soaking up my usual dose of celeb gossip and puffing away on a silk cut. I turn the page and I’m checking out Victoria B looking sassy in denim with a gorgeous deep tan clutching a little clear bag with 2 bottles of St Tropez inside. The feature on Mrs B briefly explained she was walking out the salon just after a St Tropez Treatment. I was Stunned she looked gorgeous and it looked natural. My Previous experience with fake tan has been close to successful. The worst moments were (just to name a few) having brown hands, missing places out because the lotion is white and you cant see where it has been applied, streakiness and the most dreaded fake tan moment of them all … the oompah loompah look now, as a follower of fashion I can say in all the years that I have studied the Paris Fashion Catwalk I have NEVER seen Campbell, Moss, Evangelista or Hertsagrovna strut their stuff with a face the shade of a ripe Satsuma – not even on any of Gautier’s Haute Couture Collections. Choosing the right Fake tan can make all the difference and With St Tropez your half way there. As with all
fake tans application is essential and with the right preparation and a bit on know how you can be looking like an English rose or be a Brazilian goddess before you know it . I haven’t been for a St Tropez Treatment myself I do it at home and I haven’t used the spray so I don’t know what its like. If your not confident about applying it at home then it might be the best thing to look into going to your local salon for a treatment to see how they apply it and have a go at home. For the rest of you who are brave and want to have a go then here’s a few tips from me to help you on your way. Have a nice hot bath and make sure you use a good body scrub … it doesn’t have to be the St Tropez one there is a good one from M and S and its made of coarse sea salt and natural oils (Boots do one that’s very similar) give yourself a good scrub concentrating on places like elbows and knees. Use a Scrub especially made for your face as body scrubs can be too harsh for the face (the clinique one is fabulous … ) make sure you concentrate on areas such as the bit at the sides of your nose and your cheeks. Then when you get out of the bath, Moisturise. I prefer to moisturise when I just get out the bath as the moisturiser soaks into the skin better and again making sure you concentrate on knees and elbows. When your all nice and dry you can start with your application .Put on some Rubber gloves (the St Tropez medical looking kind not the ones you do your washing up with) personally I like mixing the Lotion with my body moisturiser to make it go further but you can put it on neat its all preference. Ok so here goes .... Start at your ankles and move upwards … don’t rub the lotion into the skin as it will make the tan go patchy and you my think to yourself this aint looking right … I look like a mud wrestler … Chill, think about all the comments you will get from people about your gorgeous tan. do
the same with the other leg and your torso then it comes to your arms out it on neat at the top of your arm and mix it with moisturiser on the underside of your arms coz you don’t tan there ! Stop at your wrists … get your partner to help you with the application on your back. Ok now your face … its up 2 you if you want to put it on neat or not I like putting it on neat so that I get a strong colour but its up to you … don’t worry about your eyebrows they wont go orange or brown slap it on over your eyelids and behind your ears and the back of your neck!!!! (my mate forgot to do this once …. Very embarrassing) don’t put it on your lips either they wont go brown and it will just make them feel greasy. Now most of you is done …there are two key essential areas … your feet and your hands to avoid messing it up and making you look like you have smeared Bovril on your hands and feet I have a trade secret … Cotton wool ! get some strong cotton wool pads from boots or M and S they both sell them they are specially made for cosmetic use. I prefer to dilute the lotion part tan lotion part body lotion then apply to the cotton wool and gently sweep across the top of your hand and going over your fingers making sure its blended in well do the same with your feet but don’t apply to the soles ! no one tans on their soles. And that’s you … looking like a mud wrestler and ready for bed … best putting some pyjamas on it wont stain your clothes so don’t panic about your pillows or your sheets. The next day have a bath and wash it all off … you will have a little colour but I find that you go darker during the day and the colour develops. So its up to you can put another application on if you like its all preference but I like to stay a nice golden colour without looking like I work in a tanning salon. If like me you like staying this way getting the foam is good as
a top up when your face or hands needs a boost.it will gradually fade and can look a little patchy nothing that a little scrub in the tub wont help ! Ok … so it hasn’t worked out for you and you have gone all patchy and your just about to leave the house … don’t panic … Rimmel sun shimmer in matte can cover up any patches and if you have gone to dark M.A.C do some face and body make-up in some great shades and they can cover up and oxtail soup marks … good luck im sure you will lurve St Tropez as much as I do …
