“ Brand: Superdrug / Type: Body Butter / What it does: Enricheses „
I came across Superdrug's range of own brand body butters last year and was really impressed by the low price. I must admit that I was a little wary at first due to how cheap they are, but I've re-purchased this brand of body butter several times now and can not really fault it.
There are a few different scents to choose from, but one of the fragrances that I particullary like is the mango & papaya scented one, which smells nice and fruity. At just £3.69 per 200ml tub this is an absolute bargain - it's almost a tenner less than The Body Shop's body butters! The whole range of Superdrug body butters are often on offer too and they are currently half price, making them just £1.84 each - a total bargain and I'll be popping down to Superdrug asap to stock up! The body butter comes in a round, transparent tub which is made of sturdy plastic. As the tub is transparent, the light beige body butter can be seen through it.
The tub has a black screw top lid which has a picture of a papaya and mango on it. There is also the Superdrug logo (a silver star), the product name and a brief product description which says - created with refreshing natural extracts to leave skin richly moisturised and silky smooth. I think that the fact that this has natural extracts in it is brilliant considering the price and the packaging is not at all cheap looking. The only thing that I'm not keen on is that as the product runs down, the tub becomes transparent and the remaining product can look a little 'messy' against the inside of the tub, but this isn't a massive issue - I'm just a bit of a perfectionist! The body butter is dermatologically tested and it is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
As Superdrug are against animal testing, it is also 100% cruelty free, which is a huge advantage. Superdrug describe this body butter as a luxurious, rich, non-greasy and easily absorbed moisturiser and say for best results the product should be applied regulary all over the body. The body butter itself has a smooth, silky texture and it is quite thick, but it's no match for the thickness of The Body Shop's body butters. Despite being quite thick, it is quite lightweight and it has an almost body lotion texture to it. It feels quite wet to the touch, although it does not leave my skin feeling wet or greasy. I wouldn't describe this as having a rich or luxurious texture, although saying that I am used to a higher end brand of body butter. I use this all over my body and a little goes a long way.
The body butter is easy to scoop out of the pot due to the reasonably thick texture and it spreads over my skin evenly due to the smooth consistency, leaving a thin layer of the butter sitting on my skin. Once I've massaged it into my skin, the butter sinks in impressively quickly (within 2-3mins), leaving no residue or stickiness behind - it just leaves my skin with a slight sheen. My skin always feels noticeably softer and moisturised after I've applied this, although it isn't ideal for very dry skin and the mosturising effects are not quite as long lasting as my more expensive brand of body butter, which is why I use a more intense body butter on any particullary dry patches of skin. The body butter smells suprisingly natural - I was expecting it to smell a little artificial as it is so cheap, but the fresh, sweet and fruity scent is nice enough.
It doesn't have a 'good enough to eat' kind of fragrance, but it does smell of mango and papaya as described so I can't complain! The smell lingers for 20 minutes or so and it is nice and subtle when on the skin so it does not clash with perfume. I've had my current tub of this for around three months and the tub is around 1/3 full, despite how much I've used it, so there's no argueing that it is brilliant value for money - the pot can be re-used too, making it even more of a bargain!
Overall, I reccommend this body butter. It's not particullary luxurious or rich, but it moisturises my skin and smells nice, which for under £4 is brilliant!
I will start by confessing that I am a little addicted to body butters and moisturisers, especially when they smell yummy! Knowing this a friend gave me this particular body butter in a birthday set and it has been lovely to use.
The mango and papaya body butter currently retails at £3.69 for a 200ml pot from Superdrug and I think this is a very reasonable price. It comes housed in a circular plastic tub with a black screw top lid and is very sturdy in terms of packaging. The packaging can also be recycled which is great if you have the ability to do that. It is worth noting that the product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, if that appeals to you.
The body butter itself is creamy peach colour and has a slightly spongy texture when in the tub, meaning you don't end up picking up more product on your fingers then you intended to when applying this, which is great. The cream melts down to a thinner consistency when applied to the body, due to the body heat, which means that you don't need a lot of this product to cover your body. It also means that you don't spend ages rubbing it in as it glides over the skin and then absorbs relatively quickly. I would say it takes around five minutes to fully absorb, which is perfect for me as it gives me time to do my makeup etc whilst it's absorbing. The product also doesn't leave any greasy films or oiliness on the skin.
The scent is noticeably fruity, which makes sense! I would say I personally notice the mango scent more then the papaya, which is fine for me as I love mangoes! The scent transfers ever so slightly to the skin, but doesn't really last that long and is easily masked by other stronger scents, which means I can still wear my regular perfumes etc without the scents clashing. In terms of how well it moisturises, I would say that once applied my skin feels softer throughout the day and looks less dry and flaky then it can do sometimes!
Overall, I think this product performs really well for the price and I would definitely consider repurchasing it in the future. Five stars for me!
