Advantages: Leaves skin soft, moisturised and looking healthy

Disadvantages: Can make you look greasy if you apply too much

It seems lately that there is a lot of hype surrounding skin oils. I know that I had seen the Decleor oils on QVC and was intrigued by the idea of using a facial oil, but those ones were a bit out of my price range. I kept seeing magazine articles about oils and when I spotted Superdrug's Vitamin E skin oil online for just £2.44 I thought it was worth a shot.

This oil is enriched with Vitamin E which has strong antioxidant properties. According to a recent article I read in a magazine, the main benefit of using an oil rather than a conventional cream moisturiser, is that oils are absorbed deeper into the skin, so provide better moisturisation - great for me, as I have very dry, eczema-prone skin.

The bottle contains just 30ml of oil, and although I knew that was small, I was surprised at how small the bottle actually was when it arrived. It's a pale beige coloured bottle with a screw top lid, and there is a little hole through which you dispense the oil.

It states on the bottle that you should use this during the day to 'aid moisturisation' and at night to 'help combat fine lines while you sleep.'

When I first received this I applied it directly to my skin and was surprised at just how greasy it made my skin look. I know what you're thinking - 'It's an oil, what did you expect?' but the oils I've seen them use on TV seem to soak straight into the skin to make it look dewy, rather than like an oil slick. I couldn't really have left the house with my face like that (luckily I was staying in that day!) so I decided to use this mainly as a night time treatment. I have since realised that I was applying far too much of the oil. I've found that the easiest way to do it, is to shake out a couple of drops onto your finger tips and then massage into the skin a tiny bit at a time until all areas are covered. If you manage to apply a thin enough layer it will absorb into the skin, but too much will sit on top of the skin, which is what makes it look greasy.

One thing I absolutely love about this oil is the smell. It's got a gentle scent a lot like cocoa butter, but I also think it smells quite expensive. If I'd been given this without a label, I think I would have told you it was from a luxury brand.

The results I've had from this oil have been good on the whole. I find that as long as I don't apply too much I am left with healthy looking, dewy skin. My skin does still feel a little slippery to the touch immediately after applying this though, and I never apply make-up over it, as I assume it would all slide off - although I must admit, I haven't actually tried it.

I think the way this works best though, is as an overnight treatment. I found that when I apply this before bed, I wake up with my skin feeling incredibly smooth and soft, and I also think it makes my skin look a little brighter, and not as dull as it usually is!

The one day I did have a problem with this, was when I came out in spots all over my chin. I could feel my skin becoming bumpy in the evening, as though it was about to come out in spots, however instead of using a spot treatment like I should have, I ignored it and applied the oil to my skin before bed as usual. The next morning I had the worst spots I've had in years - it looked like teenage acne - and although I can't say for sure that the oil made them worse, I would avoid applying this if I had spots again, and think it is probably a product to avoid if you have spot-prone skin.

At just £2.44 I wasn't expecting a huge amount from this product, but I've been pleasantly surprised. It leaves my skin looking bright and feeling soft, supple and moisturised. The only downsides are that you need to be really careful not to overdo it, and I don't think it would be suitable if you suffer from spots, but otherwise it's great!

Summary: I'm very impressed
