Advantages: legs tanned
Disadvantages: very dark ankles
= = = = = The British weather can never be relied upon to give you a golden suntan and sitting out in the sun for long periods is bad for your skin anyway. So last year I purchased a tantowel. They come in small silver sachets with tantowel written on the front. You can buy them individually or in boxes of ten. I didn’t know if these were any good so I brought one sachet which was on special offer in boots for just 99p. Each sachet contains one tantowel which is a towelette concentrated with self tan, the packet describes it as ‘formulated to give you a quick and even application with no streaking odour, or discolouration.’ It can be applied to the face or body and should give you a natural looking glow within 3 hours. It has been developed for both men and women of all skin-types after Australian born Lori Braun's, dream to create the ultimate self-tanning product. As this was the first time that I have used one of these I didn’t want to apply it to my face in case I ended up looking like the tango man, so I was just going to use it on my legs to start with, That way if anything goes wrong I could easily cover it up with tights or a pair of trousers. I undid the sachet at the top and pulled out my folded tan towel. When unfolded it was about the size of an average face flannel. It felt very moist. I began wiping the towel all over my legs and feet. It didn’t wet my legs at all and I couldn’t tell if I had missed anywhere because it is not like applying a cream where you can see it, you can’t see anything. The more I used it the drier the cloth got . There was only a slight odour from this towel, nothing too strong or noticeable. After I had finished I washed my hands immediatley to make sure I didn’t have any of it left on them, I didn’t want brown or orange palms. So now I just had t
o wait 3 hours to find out the results. 1 HOUR LATER I lifted up my trouser leg to have a quick look, and see how my tan was progressing, I couldn’t see any obvious change in colour. 3 HOURS LATER After a long 3 hour wait I removed my trousers to take a look. I did notice a slight change in colour. My legs were looking nice and tanned. Not orange and I couldn’t notice any streaking. I did notice that my ankles were looking slightly darker than the rest of my legs and feet. So overall I was pleased with the tan this tantowel had given me. So, pleased with my now bronzed legs I went to bed. Next morning. The first thing I thought about when I got out of bed was to check my leg, hoping that my tan hadn’t rubbed of on the sheets during the night. No marks on the sheets, great. I looked at my legs. A lovely golden tan just like I had hoped for. Only a slight hint of orange and no streaks. But, OH MY LIFE....look at my ankles, and toes, they are very very dark and quite orange. I couldn’t help but laugh, they looked such a sight. I took a facial cleansing wipe and began wiping over the very orange area. The cloth ended up bright orange, but the colour had faded nicely around my ankles to match the colour of my legs. I was then pleased with the look I had achieved. I would probably use these again. I have quite fair skin and it did give me a natural looking tan. For a deeper tan you can use another towel 3 hours after the first application but I don’t think this is necessary. I will be more careful when applying it around my ankles next time and only give them a light wipe. I don’t think I would use this product on my face. The tan wore off slowly over the week. Fading each time I got in the shower. I am now thinking of applying it again to my legs and maybe my arms as well this time. The ingredients are shown on the back of each sachet so these should be checked before
using and if you have an allergy to anything then you should not use them. I didn’t suffer any reaction to this product. Tantowel have a website where you can find out about more of their products. www.tantowel.com

- 15/04/04 I want a golden tan too! I'm not going away this summer so I'm destined to have white legs. I might give 'em a wipe with a tan towel! |
