Advantages: Smells Great, Fab price

Disadvantages: The lid can be difficult to open

Last night I decided to head to Tesco for a little bit of shopping. With all the warnings about Swine Flu with posters plastered all over the office, I decided to purchase an antibacterial hand gel. I already had one at work but didn't like how sticky it made my hands feel.

So whilst walking around the toiletries section I came across this product which was priced at 48p for 50ml which I thought was fantastic so I bought a few for my work friends as well. I normally smell the products before buying them as a few of them have a strong alcoholic smell, with the shop being so busy I didn't even think about smelling it and just popped it in the trolley. My thinking was for that price it didn't matter what it smelt like as it was less than half price of my normal hand gel.

The bottle

It's a small bottle which is roughly 10cm in height so easy to fit in your pocket or bag so you can always have it on you. It's a clear bottle, which shows you the clear liquid inside which would be harder to see if it didn't have a couple of air bubbles in the bottle. The lid is just a flip lid which can be quite difficult to open, some other products have a pump action top is you can squeeze onto your hand but this one is more simple which I'm assuming is because of the much lower price.

The label on the front again is clear but it has two teal coloured bubbles on the front with the writing of what the bottle is. The name of the product is very plain - "Antibacterial Hand Gel" but at least you know what you're buying.

The other information on the bottle tells you that it kills 99.9% of bacteria which is always good. It also states that it's fast drying, non-sticky and has added moisturisers. At the bottom of the label on the back it has the ingredients which I have counted and it only contains about 10 which is pretty good for a product like this.

What is it?

Ok well stating the obvious first is it's an antibacterial hand gel. The difference is it doesn't require water for it to work like your normal soaps. All you need to do is to squeeze a small amount on dry hands and rub in until it dries. This is to clean and re-fresh your hands if you are unable to wash them.

So as well as using in the office you can take one with you when you're out and about. Also good for kids, my nieces always seem to be getting dirty hands when they're out and about!

Trying it out -

Smell - in the bottle it smells really strong, which smells to me purely of alcohol. When I first smelt it I thought there was no way I could put this on my hands as it smelt absolutely awful and I didn't want to have to smell it all day.

I then decided to try some on my hands anyway to see how it felt and then I could wash them afterwards. At least I had tried it then and I never had to again. So squeezing a drop onto my hands and rubbing it in actually made the smell change. Now sniffing my hands I was getting a nice fresh smell. A few people that have given me feedback say it smells like cucumber whilst another couple of people say it has a subtle hint of melon. No matter what it reminds them of for me it's a great smell that I'd quite happy to sit and smell all day.

Applying it - So once I opened the lid which did take me a couple of attempts as it was quite stiff (an easier way to open it is to just unscrew the lid.) I put a couple of drops on my hand. In the bottle it seemed like quite a thick gel but dropping on to my hand it looked quite runny. I started rubbing it in and as it states on the bottle it is quick drying, only taking a max of 20 seconds to dry.

My hands - I was really surprised to feel my hands after applying the gel. They felt so silky and smooth. The feeling of this does last throughout the day as well even though I am applying the gel every hour or so just to ensure my hands are as clean as they can be. There is no sticky feeling at all and you can't actually tell you've just put gel on your hands.

Overall Opinion

I am giving this one top marks for everything about the product and I will certainly be buying more and using it all the time. I am going to leave one at work and one in my bag just in case I do need any whilst out and about. It gives me peace of mind knowing I am keeping my hands clean and I won't just be using this whilst there's the current swine flu scare, I will be using it all the time.

Summary: Best Hand Gel I've Found

Excellent review. A very useful product and the price is very reasonable, so I'll try this brand next time. A hint: I keep mine in a plastic bag, in my handbag, just in case it leaks.
