Advantages: Nice smell, cleanses hands, inexpensive

Disadvantages: None!

Liquid soap has got to be one of the best household inventions ever. It is not only more hygienic than normal soap, but it also tends to last longer.

In our house, we always use it in the kitchen. I am normally the one who buys it, but I can't say I'm loyal to just one particular brand. I will happily try any brand as long as it is fairly reasonably priced. In the past, I have bought brands like Radox and Palmolive, and although they are very good, they can be a bit pricey...unless you buy them on a special offer, of course! Recently, whilst shopping in Tesco, I noticed a 250ml container of antibacterial handwash for only 54p. This was less than half the price of the Carex one and seemed like a real bargain!

** PACKAGING **

Unlike some well-known brands, which can look quite fancy, Tesco Moisturising Antibacterial Handwash comes in a clear plastic container, which looks quite basic. This is not a bad thing in itself, because you rarely buy a product for the packaging anyway, so as long as the container is functional, its appearance is actually quite insignificant.

The liquid soap is a lovely turquoise/aqua marine colour, and the pump on the top of the container is the same colour to match. The 'Tesco' logo is vertically embossed onto the front of the container and this is accompanied by three fingerprint-like marks and, of course, the name, 'Moisturising antibacterial handwash', which appears in bold, blue writing.

Some brands of liquid soap can be a bit awkward to open, but this one is incredibly easy. To release the pump on the top of the container, you simply turn it in an anti-clockwise direction and the soap is ready to use.

** CLAIMS **

As well as claiming to remove germs and odours, the handwash claims to be suitable for sensitive skin. It is made using a gentle formula which neutralises strong odours, such as fish, onions and garlic, and contains a pH balanced formulation, which ensures that your hands are left feeling soft and smooth after use.

The container also clearly states that the soap is NOT tested on animals.

** WHAT I THINK **

As I said at the outset, my main reason for buying this handwash was its low price. However, another reason was the wonderful blue colour of the soap. It has a fresh, natural appearance, which I like.

A quick push on the pump and you get a dollop of the soap on your hands. You don't need a lot because a small amount goes a long way. The first thing you notice is how cool the liquid is. It is also quite gooey, like a gel, but not that sticky. It is best to apply the handwash to moistened hands as this allows a creamy lather to develop.

The soap has a fresh, perfumey aroma, which appealed to me straight away. It has a sweet, flowery smell which is less synthetic than other handwashes I have tried and does not smell of disinfectant at all.

Once I have washed my hands, they are left feeling soft and smooth every time. It is impossible to say how effectively the soap kills germs, but my hands certainly feel clean, and I did not notice any skin irritation. The soap does claim to be suitable even on sensitive skin, so it must be pretty gentle. However, what I would say is that it is important to make sure that you rinse your hands thoroughly after use; otherwise you may well find that your hands are left feeling itchy.

** WARNING! **

As with any soaps, avoid all contact with the eyes. Should this occur, you will need to rinse well with clean, warm water.

** CONCLUSION **

Overall, I think that this handwash is a real bargain. It certainly lives up to its claims and is an excellent, value for money alternative to the more expensive brands. Some cheaper makes do not last long at all, but I have been using this one now for at least three weeks and there is still more left.

I would certainly buy this soap again and recommend you try it.

I've used this in the past and found it quite good. However I ahve to disagree with you on the part where you said: 'you rarely buy a product for the packaging anyway.' Unfortunately sometimes I am guilty of being drawn to soemthing because of its packaging lol.

One thing I always find with pump handwashes is that you have to rinse and rinse your hands for ages to get it off, otherwise your hands are left a bit sticky!
