Advantages: It works, it's cheap, it smells OK
Disadvantages: No luxurious lather
We have just spent a weekend visiting my sister and her partner and whilst we were there we had a conversation about shopping which included the Tesco Value range. We were all agreeing that most of the products in the range were very good but a few, such as Cola, were to be avoided. My sister's partner told us that he bought Tesco Value Shower Gel costing 10p for 300ml. He said that providing you didn't have overly sensitive skin it was fine.
I have to admit that I was very dubious as I usually use Radox or others of that sort of level if you see what I mean; to be honest I thought it would be like showering in cheap washing up liquid! Still, we had been told to help ourselves to any of the toiletries in the bathroom so I decided that I would give it a go.
The container is fairly plain and quite square in design with no hook for hanging in the shower. It has the distinctive red and blue Tesco Value logo on the front together with the words Shower Gel. If you are a snob and don't like people knowing that you like to save some money then this isn't for you as it is going to be there for all to see in your basket - this isn't going to worry me as I am the sort who is quite happy for anyone to see that I have the sense not to waste my money!
Anyway, let's get back into the shower ...............
The instructions on the shower gel tell you to squeeze it onto your hand or onto a flannel, apply to the body and then rinse off thoroughly.
I picked up the container, flipped open the top and squeezed some shower gel into my hand. It is bright blue and comes out in a kind of lump, a bit like jelly in consistency, so it was nothing like the smooth, rich gel that I am used to with my Radox.
I rubbed the gel onto my body and I have to say that the fragrance was fairly pleasant. It was light and flowery, although nothing special obviously for 10p. There was very little lather produced with this shower gel but it was quite adequate for the job of getting me nice and clean! You could always use more of the gel if you wanted to get a bit more lather, after all, it's cheap enough isn't it?
As I said before there is no element of luxury with this product but for 10p what do you expect? To use as a general shower gel when you are in a hurry and just want to get clean this is absolutely fine. The smell doesn't linger as some of the more expensive ones do but there again that didn't really bother me.
Obviously as with any product of this kind if you get any into your eyes you are advised to rinse them well with clean water straight away.
I would be more than happy to buy this product and it wouldn't bother me to keep it in my bathroom but if you do feel uncomfortable about using such a cheap product you could always decant it into an empty container from another brand couldn't you?
Summary: For a quick shower this is ideal
