Advantages: A Fantastic intensive hand moisturiser
Disadvantages: A lot to spend on a hand cream if your hands don't really need it
As an OCD sufferer, you can probably guess I am washing my hands constantly, on bad days to the point where they are very sore and dry from constantly stripping off the natural oils. This intensive hand rescue treatment has literally saved my hands from disintegrating.
Always being a lover of Body Shop products, when I first saw this with the name 'Hand Rescue' it instantly caught my attention as I thought it would help my cause. Seeing that this product contained almond oil, which I already loved the smell of, and shea butter which is a known effective moisturiser, I promptly popped it into my basket. At nearly £9 for a 100ml pot, this is not a cheap hand cream, but I was hoping this would be the product to rescue my poor sore hands!
It is packaged in a round, beige pot with a screw on lid which has the label on to identify it and a handprint in the background. Quite plain but I'm never one to judge a product by it's packaging until I've tried it!
The consistency of the cream strikes me as much thicker than a normal cream, and although not greasy in itself you can definitely tell there is a lot of oily ingredients to this when applying.
It isn't specifically stated anywhere on the product info that it's designed to be used as a night-time hand moisturiser, but I wouldn't want to use this in the daytime, as if you apply more than the tiniest amount it makes your hands feel very creamy. I use a lighter hand cream for the daytime and keep this for my intensive night time usage, always last thing before I go to sleep!
When my hands are feeling particularly bad, I apply a good layer of this and wear moisturising gloves overnight to really give my hands a pasting! This method really locks in the moisture. The healing properties of almond oil are amazing as I have never failed to wake up with my hands in a much better state than when I went to sleep, feeling silky smooth and looking healthier!
It also makes your cuticles lovely and soft which is an added bonus as they too can get in a bit of a state with constant hand washing. My mum works with food, so her hands are also constantly in water and she swears by this hand cream as well.
This really is designed to be an intensive rescue treatment for people in dire straits, so unless you also suffer with sore hands, I would question whether you could justify the price of this considering a normal hand cream would probably suffice for what 'normal' hands need it to do!
One pot lasts me 2-3 months and I will continue to buy this as it really does work miracles on my manky hands!
True to Body shop form, this cream is not tested on animals, and supports community trade by sourcing some of the ingredients from Ghana, Brazil and Zambia.
Summary: For compulsive hand washers!
