Advantages: Good for gentle exfoliating

Disadvantages: Not a great smell, not a great price

I always think of Body Shop products as 'gifts' and tend to buy very little in there myself as I think that the products (although lovely) are well over my budget. So I tend to have to rely on kind family and friends buying me stuff from there for birthdays and Christmas. and Recently I got round to trying the coconut body scrub which I was given as a present.

Application

The Body Scrub is an exfoliator which removes dead skin cells and is supposed to leave your skin feeling smooth and soft. By exfoliating first, you have better results when you moisturize. You are supposed to massage over your body whilst in the shower or bath to remove the dead skin cells - the circular massaging movement is also supposed to boost circulation. This is advised 2/3 times a week.

I was trying a 50ml tub of Coconut Body Scrub. The scrub contained coconut oil which is supposed to be easily absorbed into the skin and has moisturizing properties. The scrub also contained coconut husk and ground coconut shells - which act as the exfoliate.

The tub comes with a screw top lid and the scrub inside is all thick and creamy, yet rough in texture with brown specs throughout - which is the ground coconut shell. I did as the instructions said and tried this scrub several times over the course of about 2 weeks.

I found that I had to put quite a lot of scrub on to my skin to get the feeling that it was working properly. The exfoliating part of the scrub didn't really feel harsh enough to be working although my skin did have a tingly sensation after - as if it had been scrubbed well!

I also found that the scrub smelt far too much of coconuts for my liking - and even after washing the scrub off the aroma did linger around you for an hour or so after.

Results

As mentioned above I found that I had to put quite a lot of the scrub on my skin to get the feeling that it was really working - so I could not see that my 50ml tub would last very long. I personally wouldn't seek out any of the coconut products in the Body Shop again as I really didn't like the smell that much. If I was to try a Body Scrub from the Body Shop again I would probably buy Moringa - as I already have that scent as a Body Butter. I use this daily and would not feel like I was wearing two totally contrasting fragrances.

The scrub has made a difference to my skin in that it does feel smoother and less dry and flaky - however I think that there are other scrubs which are cheaper and work equally as well if not better available elsewhere.

Conclusion

I am quite glad that I did receive this as a gift and didn't purchase it myself, as the body scrubs are quite expensive. A 50ml tub costs approx £4.50 and a 200ml tub costs approx £12.20.

There are quite a few different varieties available including Raspberry, Wild Cherry, Coconut, Cocoa Butter, Pink Grapefruit, Mango, Olive, Passion Fruit, Moringa and Papaya.

I think that although this particular scrub did work in terms of exfoliating and improving the overall appearance of my skin - the fragrance was just too much for me and I would probably be inclined to try a different variety on another occasion.

Summary: Perhaps try one of the other varieties available!

I love the smell of coconut, so it's a shame it's so expensive and you need to use a fair bit otherwise I'd be running out to buy some! Still tempted to try though! Well reviewed x
