I’m a huge fan of The Body Shop and am trying to sample as many of their products as possible. This summer I’m currently working my way through a tub of Coconut Shimmer Body Butter. The standard price is £13, but there are so many offers at the Body Shop all of the time that you never need to pay this price – around £7 is more like it!
TBS makes a number of ranges which each have their own colour. Coconut Shimmer is slightly unusual in that it only comes in a Body Butter and a Body Lotion (though I can’t find the Body Lotion on the site, so it may well have been discontinued). There is, however, a standard, non-shimmer version of the coconut range which comes as a Body Scrub and a Shower Cream (as well as a Body Lotion and Body Butter). The colour theme for the shimmer version is pale cream with added shimmer: the butter tub is attractive, with a shimmering look. The label has a picture of coconuts.
Inside the tub, the Body Butter, like other Body Shop butters, is very thick. It is designed for normal to dry skin and to provide 24-hour hydration – it contains organic virgin coconut oil for this purpose. It has a buttery texture and a relatively small amount covers the body. The butter is certainly incredibly moisturising – I have dry skin, but using this keeps it hydrated all day.
As well as moisturising my skin, the butter, as the name suggests, gives it a subtle shimmer. I like this as it is subtle enough for work – I’ve worn it most days in August! It is a faint shimmer, almost white in colour. It also has an amazing coconut scent, which tends to last at least half a day.
The only negative about this is that it is a bit TOO moisturising for every day. I generally prefer to use a body butter at night, and use a lighter lotion during the day. However, there’s no point in using a shimmer body butter at night! So although I like this product, I think I would prefer the body lotion version. Only, it doesn’t seem to be available any more. Oh well.
I tend to prefer body butter to moisturiser as it's less sloppy and I prefer the texture, although I do still use moisturiser as its often cheaper. Recently I had a voucher to spend at The Body Shop so decided to treat myself to this body butter. The Body Shop do a huge range of fabulous smelling body butters. I'm not normally a coconut fan (it reminds me too much of being on holiday and makes me feel rubbish about being stuck at home) and this is the first time I've used any kind of shimmer product so this quite an adventurous purchase for me.
I brought the 200ml sized tub although you can get smaller versions. The tub is pretty big and hence thought this product would last quite a long time. The tub is strong white plastic with a shimmer effect and the lid has a picture of yummy looking coconuts, the body shop symbol and a little bit of product information on it. The text is in white and is very easy to read. The text like on most body shop products is printed in English and French (I'm pretty certain its French but I could be wrong...) and it simply says "Coconut Shimmer Body Butter, with coconut virgin oil and a subtle shimmer. Normal/Dry Skin". The lid of the tub is screw on and screw off I'm able to do it with wet hands and I assume most people would be and the lid seems to help the product stay moist for longer.
On the bottom of the tub we are again told what the product is, how to use it and a list of instructions. I find that body shop products give a lot less text and product description than many other brands but, to be honest, there's nothing else I really want to know, I don't need promises of endless hours of moisturisation to make me want to buy the product.
...My Experience Using the Product...
The body butter is (unsurprisingly) very much like butter in texture, it's a white/ beige colour and you can see the shimmer in the light. I tend to towel myself dry apply the body butter and then towel off again after giving it a few minutes to sink in. The product feels luxurious to apply to the skin and you can immediately see the shimmer effect.
Personally I quite like the shimmer, it gives a silvery shimmer though rather than gold so if bronzed goddess was the look you were going for this product wouldn't be for you. The shimmer was subtle it was definitely noticeable in the light but I didn't feel like a walking glitter ball. It lasted effectively until the next time I showered as well. The only I found was a small problem was that it did rub off onto my towel and later onto my clothes although this disappeared after putting them through the washing machine.
In terms of sent it does smell like coconut and the smell is more subtle than I was expecting it to be and not at all as strong as sun cream. I could definitely still smell it on me up to 8 hours after applying it which I really enjoyed. For moisturisation this product is amazing it easily soaks into the skin and leaves my skin feeling super soft for ages and ages without it feeling greasy or sticky.
...Value For Money...
This product is pricey but it is Body Shop so you kind of expect it. The larger tub which I purchased retails at £12.50 but recently it was available in the sale at half price and using my voucher (£15 off when you spend £30) I effectively brought it for a quarter of this price. Personally although the product is amazing I wouldn't purchase it at full price (essentially because I'm a bit stingy) although I would buy it at half price and Body Shop products are always on my christmas list. I think this product is a great treat and perfect to use for nights out because of the shimmer but because of the price not an everyday product.
Every year my Auntie buys me the same products from the Body Shop and every year I take them back and change them for something else.... The staff are fantastic and always do an exchange with no receipt and no problem, anyway back to the Body Butter.
Having spent over a certain amount I was given a free tub of this Coconut Shimmer Body Butter (usually £12.50 for 200ml it also comes in 50ml in a travel set for tenner). I'm not one for this shimmery stuff but as it was free I gave it ago.
It comes in a large tub with a decent easy to open screw top lid, can be a bit of a pain screwing and unscrewing especially with buttery hands but not really a problem. This particular tub is glittery white coloured with a picture of a coconut on the lid. The label tells us that it's 'Coconut Shimmer Body Butter with virgin coconut oil and a subtle shimmer for NORMAL/DRY SKIN'. There's a peel off label underneath that lists it's long list of ingredients and storage instructions. I can't find directions for use but it's pretty obvious- rub on your body.
After removing the ring of cellophane around the rim and unscrewing I was hit by a lovely smell of coconut. The butter itself is cream coloured with a subtle glittery shine to it. It looks nice and smooth and 'untouched' if you like. The consistency is literally chilled butter.
I smeared a tiny bit on the tip of my finger which covered my forearm, so on that basis the tub should last a good while. It smoothes on really well as my body heat melts it. I find within a few minutes it's been absorbed into my skin leaving it feeling soft with only a slight hint of glitter (which is good). The best of it though for me is the smell it's really coconutty and creamy not unlike sun-cream. This scent lasts for a good few hours on my skin, as does the slight glittery shimmer. It doesn't irritate in any way.
I think it moisturises okay and it's not all over my clothes etc as it does seem to absorb into the skin well. Although saying that I don't smother myself in it.
I'd just like to add that it washes off my hands easily with soap and water.
The Body Shop offer a wide range of beauty products. They do not test on animals.
~Coconut Shimmer Body Butter~
Body Shop offer a wide range of body butters in various scents. The coconut range from Body Shop includes a whole host of bath and body treats. Today I will be discussing the 'Coconut Shimmer Body Butter'.
This is the only body butter available which has a shimmer through it. There is also a body lotion with shimmer in the coconut scent. This body butter is enriched with organic virgin coconut oil which is designed to leave the skin super soft for up to 24 hours and also leave it looking shimmery. This body butter is suitable for those with normal to dry skin types.
Presented in typical, Body Shop body butter style, this body butter comes in a round, plastic tub. The tub is white with a sticker on top showing open, fresh coconuts. The body butter is kept fresh thanks to a screw top lid. The tub can be recycled and this butter has a 12 month shelf life. The packaging is basic but functional. I do prefer a tube but I feel the thickness of this butter wouldn't fare well in a tube.
~Price and Availability~
You can purchase a 200ml tub of this body butter by visiting your local Body Shop store. Alternatively, visit www.bodyshop.co.uk where a 200ml tub is priced at £12.50.
I don't often shop at Body Shop for myself but towards the end of last year, I was purchasing a few gifts for family from their website as I had a 50% off discount code (look out for special offers regularly). I decided to purchase myself a few bits and pieces and one item I bought is this body butter. I love the scent of coconuts and thought the shimmer would be nice for going out in the evenings.
I own lots of body butters and lotions and whilst I like this one, it isn't part of my 'daily use' collection. I opened my tub around 6 months ago and have used around 1/3 - it is still very fresh but I doubt I will use it all up before the end of its shelf life. The butter itself is just how a body butter should be - incredibly thick. It is white and shiny thanks to the shimmer. I find this body butter difficult to scoop out the tub as it is semi-solid. I only ever need a small blob to cover my arms and legs (the dry bits) in an even layer of body butter.
This butter spreads like a dream despite its thick consistency. It feels luxurious and a true treat to apply. It does take a while to sink in so I take the time to massage it across my skin whilst paying particular attention to my knees and elbows. It turns creamy then slightly oily but soaks in fully and leaves no residue on the surface of my skin. My skin feels super smooth for most of the day but the 24hr claim is a little optimistic.
The shimmer element of this body butter is good. There is a nice balance between OTT glitter and nothing at all. My skin looks healthy with a subtle shimmer which is perfect for wearing during warm evenings. I would say it would be great for using abroad as it is cooling and leaves the skin looking lovely. It is nice to apply around the shoulder and chest area for a hint of shimmer - quite girly but not cheap and nasty in appearance.
As far as the scent goes, this is probably as close to 'real' coconuts as you can get. I personally prefer the sweet, creamy coconut scent but the scent of this body butter is subtedly sweet and more nutty than anything else. It is nice enough but not my favourite coconut scent. It is very natural in scent but doesn't last long on my skin - a few hours maximum.
I do like this body butter. It moisturises my dry skin and doesn't irritate it at all unlike some other Body Shop products. It does provide a lovely shimmer to my skin but we don't get decent enough weather in Scotland for me to make the most of it! Because I don't like (or have any need) to use this one daily, I wouldn't buy it again. It would be nice if this one was available in a small, easy to transport tub like some of the other Body Shop butters are.
4 stars - thanks for reading :)
I have used body shop body butters for years, I suffer with dry skin and they work wonders. My favourite is by fair the coconut and the assistant recommended I tried this butter when it first came out, the advantage of this is that is gives skin a healthy glow and well as moisturises! I admit I was a little sceptical but I tried it.
The butter importantly is not as moisturising as the plain coco butter one, it is less greasy and absorbs much faster. The smell is also not as strong but that could be a good thing!
The main selling point is the golden shimmer and I really like it, I do think it makes a difference to the look of my skin and smooths over some of the imperfections, however, the glitter doesn't always distribute evenly so rub it in well!
I probably would not recommend this for serious moisturising, I tend to mix it will my normal non shimmer butter as my skin seemed to dry up quite a lot when I used this butter alone. All in all I keep buying it and at £12.50 the tub lasts quite a long time.
I am a big fan of Body Shop body butters and of glitter so I was delighted to receive a coconut shimmer body butter off a friend at work for my birthday. I have bought the original coconut body butter a few times and quite like it but this one takes the original formulation and improves on it.
The shimmer body butter is a very thick cream which is fantastic at moisturising the skin but it does need to be rubbed quite vigorously to get it to absorb properly. You need to be careful with how much you put on as too much can leave your skin feeling a little greasy but even a small amount of the cream will leave a layer on the top of the skin which can stain clothes until it has dried properly.
Once the cream has absorbed fully my skin is left feeling lovely and supple and even the driest areas such as my elbows and knees are left looking smoother and not flaky and dry. The best way to apply it for extra moisture is straight after bathing or showering as I find that this helps it absorb better.
The shimmer that this body butter gives is quite subtle but looks really nice under direct lighting. It gives you a lovely shimmer without being over the top and I took this on holiday with me and not only was the butter a great aftersun the shimmer was perfect for the warm weather and more revealing clothing I had.
The smell is also gorgeous and is really coconutty. Obviously if you do not like coconut then this isn't the one for you but I appreciated the strong smell and you could definitely tell that it was made with quality ingredients.
The one bad thing about this body butter is that it is expensive at £12 a tub. The tubes are quite big but as you do use quite a lot of the butter each time you use it the tubs don't last all that long. However the body butters at the Body Shop can be regularly found for half price which is when I like to stock up on them.
I am a big fan of The Body Shop and their products, however I rarely have the money left over to spend on them and therefore I usually rely on receiving them as gifts. This particular Coconut Shimmer Body Butter came as part of a set which I received as a gift last year, and I had never really thought about using it until then because it is not a product which is particularly appealing to me in comparison to some of their other products.
It comes in a 200ml tub which is actually quite a lot of product, and it retails for a staggering £12.50, which is something I would not have even contemplated if I had the money spare to spend. I know that The Body Shop provide high quality goods, but for some body butter, I feel this is just far too much to be spending. The tub comes as shown in the image, and I have had no troubles with it, as it is easy to open and get the product out of it. It has the signature Body Shop look about it, and you can tell it is a premium quality product, so I am happy to display it in my bathroom for all to see!
To use this, you simply need to unscrew the lid and get a little bit of the body butter on to your fingers and apply generously over your skin. I use this particularly on my legs and arms as this is where I got the most dry skin, but it is suitable for using wherever you wish. Application is really easy as most body butters are, and I found that this particularly one was very creamy and easy to apply, therefore it does not make it hassle to use as I can find with some body lotions and body butters.
The Body Shop claim that this body butter "provides up to 24 hours moisturisation". One thing I did notice with this body butter is that it is extremely moisturising, and as it has cold pressed coconut oil within it, this really helps to nourish and moisturise your skin, making it particularly effective on dry patches. I used to suffer quite bad from eczema, and this does mean that I can get quite dry skin, and I did notice that this product did really help with it. I would say that it does last 24 hours which I can not often agree with on most products, but this is expected with The Body Shop products.
Another big selling point of this body butter is its delicious smell. If you are a fan of coconut scented goods you will love this. I have to admit that of many scents, coconut would not be my first, and I would often opt for strawberry or orange and fruity scents. But this was gorgeous, and it lingered on your skin after application for hours, and the fragrance does come off really strong. This makes it perfect if you are applying it for a night out.
In addition to this, another big selling point of this body butter is that it contains a shimmer to help glisten up your body and make it sparkle throughout the night. I think that this is a great idea, and it works well at giving you that perfect shimmer on your legs or chest for a night out. It is not too overpowering, but just enough to give you that extra something. But due to this, it does mean that you get glitter all over your hands, and despite vigorously hand washing after application, you still seem to end up with glitter all over your face and hands and it is just a nightmare to get rid of.
Overall, a fabulous high quality body butter, but I am not sure that the shimmer effects are for me. I would recommend it if you have £12.50 to spare, but personally I would much rather opt for something more friendly to my purse's budget! Thanks for reading.
Body Shop believe that the way to achieve beauty is through embracing nature. The company has travelled across the whole world to find beneficial natural ingredients which will enhance our beauty and self confidence. They are also an extremely eco friendly company who strive to protect the planet and help people while making their products.
The Body Shop Coconut Shimmer Body Butter is one of their best selling products. As with all of their moisturisers it promises you an intensive all over moisturising action that will make the skin on your whole body silky soft for 24 hours. Its job is to protect your skin, leaving it supple and glowing with health.
It smells incredible too and the aroma is very long lasting on your skin. If you like coconut products in general, then you'll love the fragrance of this. You'll smell like a tropical island which may lift your mood slightly if you are plugging away at your desk. This creamy rich formula contains real organic cold pressed coconut oil which is full of nutrients and is acquired through a natural process in order to feed and protect your skin.
Not only does it make your skin silky smooth and deliciously fragranced but this formula also contains a subtle shimmer that will make your skin glow with radiance. It's not in your face or glittery but just enough of a pearlescent shimmer to make your skin reflect the light giving an healthy appearance all over. It almost acts like a body highlighter. It is perfect for summer days, nights out or just for you to know its there, if your wrapped up all cosy and warm for winter!
The product is available from Boots and The Body Shop, as well as many online sites. It comes in a circular tub and you twist the lid to open the product. The packaging looks very similar to The Body Shop's normal Coconut Body Butter so if you want to get your hands on the shimmer one, you need to look carefully at the lid.
It costs around £12 for 200ml so it's not too cheap. The product is fairly long lasting but as you are using it all over the body, a considerable amount is used each time. In order to use, you simply scoop out the desired amount of the ivory coloured product and massage it gently into your skin daily. As its so thick, it make take a while to fully sink in.
One problem with a moisturiser that is packaged this way is that if you leave it open on the side while using it and knock it over, it goes everywhere!! This happened with my last batch so I'm more careful now but it did make an ice rink out of my wooden floor for a few days!
All in all, a gorgeous product that will give you intense all over moisture, a long lasting aroma of coconut and a subtle shimmer. For me, nothing will ever beat Soap and Glory, Righteous butter but this is a close second and I keep this one for when the sun eventually decides to show its face.
Ingredients - Aqua, Cyclomethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Glycerin, Theobroma Cacao Butter, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Lanolin Alcohol, Mica, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Benzyl Benzoate, Coumarin, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Sodium Hydroxide, CI 77891, Caramel.
My love affair with The Body Shop started with this one product. Last July, on holiday with my friends, one of them had a little pot of this and I used some on sunburnt skin, I was instantly hooked. I'm not really a body butter buyer and tend to stick to my normal thinner body lotion but this gave the perfect shimmer for my skin on nights in Barcelona.
So when I came home, I decided to buy myself some. Body Shop butters cost £12.00 for 200g, which seems expensive and normally, I would have never paid this much, but they often have offers on. Just after Christmas, I got some more body butters in the sale at £6 buy one get one free, so the price can largely vary. Also The Body Shop often throw in little sample pots and have offers of free gifts, so even better value especially as the tub is never ending.
The Body Shop Coconut Shimmer Body Butter comes in a round off white plastic pot with a screw top lid, which you basically dig into it, it makes getting all the product out easy. On the lid, the label has an attractive picture of a coconut sliced open, the pot is recyclable afterwards but I find them great to put little trinkets in.
The body butter is again an off white in colour but has a very light shimmer running through it. When applied it gave a lovely glow and didn't look like I poured a tub of glitter all over myself, I felt that the shine was really enhancing.
The texture of the body butter is considerably thick, alot thicker than a body lotion. When you apply it, it takes some time to soak into your skin, so you need to let it dry before you get dressed, otherwise you end up with a shimmery line across the inside of your clothes. I usually apply it after a shower because it's so rich and nourishing, then wait in my dressing gown until it is fully absorbed. I have been complimented on my skin as the shimmer isn't in your face but more a subtle glow.
The smell is very coconutty, personally I love it and whenever I wear it, it reminds me of my holiday. I think you will either love the fragrance or hate it, as it could be overpowering. After use, my skin felt so soft and nourished. You don't need to use a lot of the body butter as it is so rich and thick.
In all honesty, I don't think I would pay £12 for another tub but when they are on offer, I will definitely stock up, I've just got to finish all my other body butters first!
I was out shopping for Xmas presents but as usual I find I am looking for things for myself. Whilst in the Body Shop last Xmas, there was an offer on on gift sets, I think it was 3 for the price of 2. I saved money... so I decided to treat myself.
I do love shimmer products especially at Xmas time. At the same time, I love the Body Shop body butters range. I decided that I would treat myself to the Body Shop Coconut Shimmer Body Butter. Perfect for the works Xmas party.
The Shimmer Body Butter goes on well. It absorbs well into the skin and leaves the skin feeling quite silky soft and smelling like coconuts.
The shimmer is gold very tiny fine glittery bits. It can be quite subtle but shimmers under lights when you are out.
The PROBLEM that I found was that as it was very subtle under the lights which I have at home, I can put it on very thickly. By the time I go out I am covered in it and by that time it is too late. Its not too much of a problem if you want to be sparkly!
For that reason I would recommend only putting it on the arms, shoulders, legs and decoltage. Just the part you actually want to shimmer.
The shimmer can also rub off on your clothes if you do not allow it to dry properly before getting dressed.
My CONCLUSION is that this product is more of a novelty. Perfect for Xmas parties! I would not buy it for the body butter but I would buy it for the gold shimmer.
When I got my Bodyshop box for my birthday I found a load of free sample tubs at the bottom. My mom tells me that once you spend a certain amount in the store you get a certain amount of samples to top up your box for free and since she wanted a big variety of stuff in the box she let the shop worker pick for her. Two of the samples were of this "Coconut Shimmer Body Butter" and I have to say I was really looking forward to trying it out - mainly because I have tried the ordinary coconut butter from this range and I loved it - so I thought this would be just as brilliant. And in a way it was...in lots of ways it really wasnt.
Stockists: The Bodyshop
Price: £12 For A 200ml Tub
For: Giving Dry Skin Intense Moisture & A Subtle Shimmer
Even though I got my cream in a small sample tub Ill describe its usual packaging just in case you on the lookout for it. This body butter comes in a very large white screw top tub. The top of the tub is covered with coconuts and looks really cute it is also very in keeping with the rest of The Bodyshop's range. The design is so simple but I think it looks really nice and upmarket and the colour is very eye catching - in short the tub itself is a great addition to anyones bathroom shelf.
The smell is one great thing about this product because it is proper lovely. The scent of coconut is actually pretty strong but because I like the fragrance I dont think it is overpowering or too strong in the slightest. In fact once it has sunk into you skin the scent you are left with is much more subtle and fresh. This has got to be up there with the best scent in the whole range because it is beautiful. If you dont like the smell of coconut though my advice is to stay the hell away because I really dont think you will like this cream! The smell lasts on your skin all day and you can smell little whiffs of it whenever you move so the smell is seriously long lasting!
This cream is obviously very thick so you dont need to apply loads at one time and you might need to spend a bit longer rubbing it in than ordinary lotions. A little goes a very long way with this so that makes it great value for money - and when I say little I really do mean such a small amount because this is absolutely PACKED with glitter. This does actually work pretty well on areas where you may have dry skin because it does deliver the intense moisture that is promised so as a body butter overall this is pretty perfect. But this isnt an ordinary body butter - this one has a very unfortunate twist!
The shimmer. The shimmer actually is really good for certain occasions such as a night out up town because it adds a really girly feel to your appearance and it really is perfect for wearing out clubbing. My advice is to apply fake tan to your legs then apply this over it because it really does leave you looking as if you have fabulous legs. Unfortunately I really doubt that you could wear this in the day because it really is very noticable and even when you apply only a little bit you do get loads of glitter - I think its way to much for daywear which obviously means you wont get as much use out of it as you would from an ordinary body butter.
I have to say wash your hands after applying this because I made the mistake of leaving them and getting glitter all over my clothes and all over my baby brother when I picked him up LOL so I guess application can be a bit messy as well. Im going to give this product 3 stars overall because its great for a night out but not for any other occasion that I can think of. Not the best Bodyshop body butter.

**** Introduction ****
I held a body shop at home party earilier this year and managed to get myself a load of body shop cosmetics and body butters, These were available to me at a reduced price as I actually held the party.
One of the best buys I got was this large 200ml coconut body shimmer, I bought it as it promised to soften and give my skin a shine which it was lacking.
**** The Coconut Shimmer Butter ****
This coconujt shimmer butter is currently available in two differant sizes, as small 50ml size and a larger 200ml size and they cost £5.00 and £12.00.
The butter is very greasy when you first apply it to your skin, however if you do suffer from dry skin it is quickly abosorbed leaving your skin silky smooth. I advise you only use small amounts if you have normal skin as you will end up felling greasy.
This cream constains tiny shimmer particals which reflect from your skin giving you a glowing arrearance, you can't actually see the little shiney particals as it looks like any other body shop butter, but after you apply the cream you notice the difference.
**** My Views ****
This is a very nice butter to give you nice glowin g skin, but I do feel that the other butters from the body shop are more effective when it comes to adding moisture into your sink, as this seemed to lay on the skins surface and not soak in fully where my skin was normal.
I recommend this for nthe odd night out but I dont feel it will tick all of the boxes that the regular butters do.
I think I got the larger sizr for about £8.00 so I don't feel let down by it, however if I had paid the full price I dont feel I would have been satisfyed.
Having a soft spot for Body Shop body butter, I have a number of different ones to chose from on a regular basis. I don't often buy at full price (£12.50 for 200ml) but wait for half price sales or freebies when spending over a certain amount of money.
Around Christmas last year, I noticed that both, Body Shop outlets as well as online ordering offered free Coconut Shimmer body butter free with purchases over £25.00 or thereabouts. As I did a lot of Christmas shopping for stocking fillers for friends and family at the body shop, spending the required £25.00 before discounts was no problem and in the end ended up with three free Coconut Shimmer body butter tins. I gave one away and kept the others.
I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts
Coconut is not everyone's cup of tea and unless you really enjoy smelling like a Bounty Bar, I would not recommend using it. When first applied, the scent is very strong, almost the same as when opening the tub for the first time. The scent stays on your for a while until it changes into something rather dull and what I would describe as artificial and plastic.
When it comes to the 'shimmer' aspect of the body butter, it is certainly quite subtle on the skin where you applied the butter. It is not immediately obvious and takes a little while to 'develop' before you see a slight change and depending on the light falling onto your skin, it will show up more or less. All in all your skin will be covered in a very subtle sheen.
However, check the palms of your hands after you applied the butter to your body and tried to work it into your skin. What you will notice is that the palms of your hands are covered in shiny shimmer. And despite wiping your hands on paper towels or fabric, the shimmer does not seem to lessen. To get rid of most of it, you will have to scrub the palms of your hands, totally defeating the object of moisturising your body and hands.
Coconut butter looks and feels rather heavy. When digging your fingers into the butter you will notice some resistance. It does take a little bit to get some of the butter on your fingers.
When it comes to spreading it onto your skin, you will notice it is rather thick and not easy to spread. It takes some time to work into your skin.
I usually work my way up the body, starting on my legs and by the time I get to my hips, I'm already bored with it.
My hands are aching and very greasy. The consistency of the butter is not as smooth as it could be and it feels like there are little lumps in the butter that have to be smoothed out when applied to the skin.
The whole process is just too much effort for so little result and by the time you have covered all the areas you want to cover you are too exhausted to bother. And it is not easy to see how much shimmer is developing on your skin and whether or not you have missed out bits on your body.
The only thing that will be shimmering that night will be the palms of your hands that are incredibly greasy and covered in amazing amounts of shimmer.
Coconut Shimmer body butter contains cocoa butter for soft supple skin and shea butter to protect and soften the skin.
Stay On Me
Unfortunately, a lot of Body Shop body butters lose their beautiful scent quite quick once you have applied and on a lot of occasions what you are left with is a rather stale plastic smell. Whatever the initial scent was, it always seems to turn into something rather dull (however, there are exceptions to this rule). The body butter is far too greasy to work well and I feel it stops your skin from breathing. The slightest bit of overheating in your body (sweating to you and me) and the skin will glisten with what I can only describe as grease. Not really what I am looking for.
My experience with Coconut Shimmer is that it smells lovely when first opened and applied, the shimmer develops nicely, however, the scent does not last long and changes into something rather dull and boring. I would not use this when preparing to go out, at no time of year, whether or not showing the shimmer on my skin. I would possibly use it if I really want to smell like a bounty bar, not go out but just get a lot of moisture into me. I don't care much about the shimmer, it looks quite nice on skin, however sticks to palms of hands to much to score points with me.
Coconut is essentially a summer scent and you will find it a lot in sun lotions. But the Body Shop Coconut range is suitable for anyone loving coconut scent, regardless of time of year. However, I would possibly use it predominantly in summer months. It is not necessarily a scent all people will like and it can be very overpowering when overindulged in.
I did not pay for my Coconut Shimmer body butter and am glad I did not invest money as I would have been slightly disappointed. It smells rather nice but it's just too messy to take seriously.
I am one of those girls that likes to have all the beauty essentials in my house! This product in particular is one of my fave!!
I am big fan of the body shop and do love there body moisturisers but do find them quite expensive so dont get them that much! Over Christmas I was on the Body shop website buying pressies and there was an offer on to spend over £25 and you will receive this free shimmer body butter!
Originally I was going to use it as a present but decided to treat myself and keep it!
The body butter is for normal to dry skin and contains virgin coconut oil and a subtle shimmer. The cream is very thick which I love in body butters and a little goes a long way! The smell is also unbeliveable it's gorgeous I actually want to eat it!
One evening when I was going out I was upstairs and my boyfriend walked through the front door and could instantly smell the moisturiser! He came in asking what that Nice coconut smell was! So this cream leaves you smelling lush!
I do use body cream everyday however this one I use for when im going out. The shimmer in the cream gives you a nice glow and your skin is left feeling silky soft.
A 200ml tub at this time costs £12.50 - however the body shop do always have a lot of offers on the body butters, some offers include 50% off. I have signed up to there website as they'll send you emails instantly with great offers! So something worth doing!!
Remember also a little goes a long way with this - you only need to use a small amount at a time. If you use to much it can be a little greasy.
I recently came across this body butter from The Body Shop as a freebie when I spent £25.00 on Body Shop products online. Usually I am not one who would buy body butters as I feel many brands tend to come up with an expensive alternative to moisturisers that don't have a full on nourishing impact which the description body butter tends to imply. I also try to avoid any products that are glittery or have the word glitter mentioned anywhere on the product, although sometimes the effect can be subtle in my experience it rarely ever is.
The Body Shop sells their body butters at £12.00 for a 200g tub which is rather generous as it lasts ages, during sale seasons this can widely vary. After Christmas they halved the cost to £6.00 and again on some of the body butters they further reduced these to £3.00. In store prices vary from the website as the shops are franchised although the sales do tend to start around the same period.
Everybody likes a free gift and what better opportunity to try a new product I would have simply passed by due to the price.
The Body Shop Coconut Shimmer Body Butter comes in a generous sized sturdy plastic pot with a screw top lid. I love the pot as it can be recycled easily afterwards as the labels peel off quite easily. The label has a charming picture of a halved coconut proudly displaying the coconut in all its glory.
The body butter is a light whitish colour with very subtle shimmer, I had visions of giant glittery flakes laying on the surface, I was pleasantly surprised at the slight shimmer effect and how it would ever so slightly enhance your skin with a lovely sheen rather than a 'I'm going to a school disco' look.
The body butter has substance; it's much thicker than I had thought it would be. It takes a little while to soak in so I would recommend using it after the bath or shower and lounge in your dressing gown after. The smell is very tropical; the entire lovely coconut notes breeze off you like a pina colada, but it is quite strong, not for the faint hearted. My skin felt very soft after using it and the shimmer was quite pretty, not too much to my relief.
I won't be parting with £12.00 on this product in the near future, partly due to amount I have left to use. I will however be parting happily with £3.00-£6.00 for others in the range, if they are as good as the coconut shimmer I shall be stocking my bathroom cabinet soon.
