The Body Shop Duo Sweet Pea Body Butter
Advantages: Lovely strong florally scent, Softening/Moisturising, Long lasting, Good for mixed skin types
Disadvantages: Nice scent but not my favourite, Quite expensive
I received my first tub of Body Shop Duo Sweet Pea Body Butter as a gift. The body butter comes in a large 200ml pink coloured tub with a picture of sweet peas (flowers) on the top - pleasant enough. The screw lid is easy to remove, even with greasy hands.
This body butter is different to all of the other Body Shop Body Butters that I've tried because it includes 2 body butters inside the tub - one side contains a body butter for normal skin and the other side contains a body butter for dry skin areas. I would say that my skin is relatively 'normal' and I don't really suffer from dry skin, although sometimes my skin can be slightly on the dry side as I tend to bath/shower/swim an awful lot.
The first thing you notice when you open the tub is the smell. I have no idea what sweet peas actually smell like, but this body butter has a very strong florally scent. It's lovely, although I have to admit that I do prefer sweeter fruitier smells (I always feel that florally scents are more suited to more 'mature' ladies! Don't hurt me!). I was pleased to find that when applied the smell is very apparent on my skin and stays put almost all day long.
I apply this body butter to my whole body. I personally prefer applying it after a bath or shower as this is when my skin is cleansed and soft, but sometimes a little dry and ready for pampering! A small scoop of each is usually enough to cover everything - a little goes a long way. The 'normal skin' body butter is quite light and this softens and moisturises all of my skin nicely (I use this body butter on about 85% of my body).
The 'dry skin' body butter is a lot thicker, richer and is most suitable for areas that are most in need of hydration (I use this body butter on about 15% of my body, so there is a lot more of this left in the tub). It's great for use on my dry and rough areas, especially my knees, elbows, feet and occasionally shins - they instantly look and feel soft, smooth and nourished. I expect this would be an exceptional body butter for those who suffer with dry skin, I will certainly keep it in mind if I ever have very dry skin issues. I use the 'dry skin' body butter sparingly as if I apply too much it can take a while to absorb and can be a little greasy. However when used in moderation both of the body butters are easy to rub in and absorb quickly (you should leave them for a couple minutes to absorb fully before getting dressed) without being greasy. The effects tend to last for most of the day too.
This product isn't tested on animals. The Body Shop are against animal testing, which makes me much more likely to choose them over many other brands.
You can buy The Body Shop Duo Sweet Pea Body Butter from The Body Shop or from The Body Shop website. A 200ml tub costs 12.50 which is quite expensive in my opinion (although as I've already mentioned a little does seem to go a long way and it is a good quality body butter), I will keep my eyes peeled for offers and sales in future as I would only consider paying a higher price for a product that I LOVE, rather than just like.
Overall I'd say The Body Shop Duo Sweet Pea Body Butter is a nice product. It smells good, it softens and moisturises, it's suitable for all skin types (and great for those who have a mix of dry and normal skin), it has ethical values, the effects (and scent) last and a little goes a long way. The downsides for me are that it's quite expensive, my skin isn't dry enough to fully appreciate the 'dry skin' body butter as much as I should and although I like the scent, it's not my favourite smelling body butter.
Summary: A nice duo body butter.
