Advantages: smells good enough to eat
Disadvantages: expensive
My Christmas gift set was the Mango variety and apart from swapping the body scrub all the rest are Mango varieties.
I love body Shop body butters but as they are so expensive it's rare that I buy myself one.
Body butters are primarily made up from cocoa butter with the added flavours to make the different aromas and skin type suitabilities. Cocoa butter melts at body temperature making this product ideal for dissolving into you skin.
The product is made up of a pot with a screw lid, and whilst the body scrubs can de difficult to open, the body butters are fine as your hands aren't wet or too greasy after application.
Upon opening the pot, you are greeted with and lovely, but possibly a bit too sweet small of mango. I can't stand eating mango, but I do like the smell. The butter is a orangey, yellow in colour (being mango variety) and is also an almost solid mass. It is a very thick consistency, but has a smooth feel to it when you have to delve those fingers in to get some out.
As I mentioned the butter melts at room temperature, it's good to scoop a bit out of the pot and rub gently between your hands to soften up before applying to your skin.
Being an all over body moisturiser, you really can go mad with this butter. It dissolves very easily into you skin and I can never even see a trace, as I literally see it disappear as I'm applying it.
The only trouble with this I find is that I may need to get more from the tub to finish off an area.
The mango variety is suitable for dry/very dry skin. Obviously this wont be suitable for everyone and it's worth checking out the suitabilities before buying. I have found, especially in this cold weather, my skin has become very dry and cracked, mainly on my hands, so this butter has been a real treat for my skin over the last couple of weeks.
I have noticed a remarkable difference, especially in my hands, from using this body butter. This could be down to the mango seed and almond oils which are included in this body butter. Mango seed oil is designed to moisturise and sweet almond oil is designed to provide essential fatty acids which help repair skins moisture barrier.
After an application of this body butter, coupled with using the mango shower gel beforehand in the shower, I am smelling very fruity. This smell isn't as strong as the coconut is when left on your skin, but this is more delicate which makes it a subtle day wear. Not that I have a lot of time in the mornings to remember to apply body butter but it's nice if I get a chance.
The aroma still lingers on for a good portion of the day.
A 200ml pot will cost £12, but you can buy a smaller 50ml pot for around the £5 mark, which is a lot better to justify on the old purse strings.
The pot wont last a huge amount of time unfortunately, although this will depend on how often and how much you use. There is a possibility that it could last you maybe ten applications on a small pot.
When I'm in a mango mood I love spending time on my body and applying this. Unfortunately my other half doesn't really like it, so it just makes me use it more!!!
Summary: a fruity body moisturiser
