Totally tropical!

According to an article I read, Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera, consisting of numerous species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. Cultivated in many tropical regions and distributed widely in the world, mango is one of the most extensively exploited fruits for food, juice, flavor, fragrance and color, making it a common ingredient in new functional foods often called superfruits.

I absolutely love the taste of Mangos, they are juicy, sweet and very tropical tasting. That said, when I needed a new Body Butter from the Body Shop I went for the mango variety this time, having tried a number of their different body butters before.

I think the thing that attracted me to the mango smell this time was the lovely bright, cheerful packaging. Now it's getting nearer winter it's nice to have a nice bright pot of cream on your side table and the mango body butter definitely fits the bill. It is a bright orangey/yellow colour with a picture of a juicy slice of mango on the front, looking almost good enough to eat. What's more, at the moment, the Body Shop are offering 20% off this Body Butter as well as a range of other flavours so there's no excuse not to purchase a new one. A 200ml tub usually costs £12.20 but at the moment it is selling for £9.76.

The Body Shop which was founded by Anita Roddick in the 1970's. It now has over 2,000 stores in 54 countries and is the second largest cosmetic franchise in the world.
It is known for its global issues around the world and makes sure that its products are not tested on animals, defend human rights etc. In 2006 they actually spent over $12 million on Community Traded ingredients. Their Body Butters definitely follow this philosophy which I think is an added reason to buy these products over other normal moisturizers.

Body Butters are moisturizers intended to nourish, protect and soften the skin. According to their website they are rich yet light and are easily absorbed to help the skin feel soft, smooth and nourished. They apparently have also won awards so this makes you think that they really are a well respected product.

The product comes in handy plastic tub/disc with a screw top.

The Body Shop describe this mango lotion as an intensive, creamy all-over body moisturiser. It is rich and smelling sweetly of summer with added Community Trade cocoa butter and sweet almond oil and is extra creamy for extra dry skins.

I do find this lotion very thick and creamy so that are correct in that statement. I think it is called butter because it really does look like a butter and is thick and creamy like that. I think the name also comes across as fairly decadent as if you can imagine smothering yourself with butter it sounds very exciting. The lotion has quite a sheen to it, almost like a glycerine sheen which I think also increases the thickness of the lotion. The smell is divine and really reminds me of mangoes. One of the ingredients is mango seed oil so they have obviously used a natural smell to enhance their cream. Mango seed oil also moisturises the body.

The mango lotion, like all the rest of their body butters contains shea butter and cocoa butter. The Cocoa butter works as a moisturizer and actually melts at body temperature and is meant to leave the skin feeling soft and silky smooth. Due to the fact that it melts at body temperature when I use the butter I like to scoop some out of the tub with my fingertips and then I warm it up a little in my hands before I put it on so it melts a bit and then rubs into the skin perfectly.

The shea butter has a high level of antioxidant vitamins such as A, E and F which help to protect and nourish the skin.

All in all a great product that will really make a difference in the world and possibly make you feel a little bit more beautiful too!
