Advantages: None, once you've let it out of the pot
Disadvantages: Nasty smell, residue needs Swarfega to get rid of it
OK, we all know and love the Body Shop ranges, and I generally think i know what to expect - yummy smelling, nature-based products which are lovely to use and great for your skin.
Err, not this one. I normally use a Garnier body exfoliant, and about a year ago when i was in the Body Shop i thought i'd give their version a try, expecting something similar but fruitier. The large, screw top tub is adorned by a picture of luscious mango, and i thought it'd be delicious.
On opening the tub in the shower, i thought it looked quite nice -a thick textured paste with plenty of scrubby bits. Turning the water off for a bit, i went for a pretty much top to toe application.
First observations: the mango smell was very artificial, nothing like as tasty as expected, and because the scrub is oil based, it smelled a bit like the oil was slightly rancid. So far, not good.
During the scrubbing process, i noticed that the exfoliating effect wasn' that great, because the "bits" are actually sugar which, of course, dissolves as you use it. Still, i hoped it'd been enough to smooth my skin and that the rest of the scrub would leave me well moisturised.
So, i started to rinse off. Nothing seemed to happen....my skin still felt thickly coated with oily gunk. So much so that i was "beading" all over in the shower - you know that look which your car has when it's just been waxed and then gets water on it?! That was me. My hands were coated with the stuff too, so i had to wash them twice with other shower gel just in order to turn the taps off...and then i slipped on some of the scrub that'd gone on the shower tray, and nearly broke my leg. By this point, i'm getting seriously grumpy.
Well, i thought maybe i should just get out of the shower and pat dry, maybe all the oil will sink in and i'll be deliciously soft in a few minutes. So i dried (as best i could with the towel sticking to me!!). And waited. And waited. There was no way i could have got dressed, my skin was totally sticky and disgusting to the touch.
In the end, to cut a long story short, i had to go back in the shower and scrub myself down about three times using other shower gel, before the vile stuff would come off enough that i could get dried and dressed.
The pot is still lurking evilly in the back of my shower, in case one day i find a use for becoming a human oil slick once again. I can't imagine what the Body Shop were thinking when they designed this product, but it's foul beyond measure. In case you hadn't realised by now, i'd suggest you give it a miss!! If i could give it no stars, i most certainly would.
Summary: i think the Body Shop had the trainee product designer in when they did this!
