The Body Shop Moroccan Rose Body Butter
Advantages: soft skin, lovely scent, absorbs well into skin
Disadvantages: doesn't last as long as expected, expensive
I have been slowly working my way through the Body Shops body butters trying to find the perfect one for my skin type. I bought the Moroccan rose one recently because I generally quite like the smell of rose scented products.
The body shop have a community trade programme that ensure that their suppliers get a fair price for their products. This is the primary reason why I shop in the Body Shop. This product includes community trade soya oil that they purchase from a cooperative of 500 farmers in Brazil. This trade has provided funding for a training programme that teaches about organic farmer and water preservation. For more information on community trade and the community trade ingredients in this product you can check out the body shop website.
==What it promises==
The Body Shop promise quite a lot with this product. Of course it promises that the body butter will leave skin feeling softer and smoother but it also promises that it will provide 24 hour hydration. I think that's a lot to promise and very impressive if a product can actually do that. It also claims that the body butter is quickly absorbed into skin.
The first thing that I noticed when I used this product was the smell. When you put this on your skin the scent is much stronger than it is when you just sniff it in it's pot. Even in the pot the scent could never be described as subtle so if you are going to try this product make sure that you really like the rose scent because it smells even stronger on your skin. Fortunately I do like the scent of rose because not only is this scent strong, it lasts for a long time and it permeates everything. For me this is a real bonus of this product. I have had friends enter the bathroom after I've used this and comment on how lovely the bathroom smells. The scent just seems to really linger, on my skin and in the environment.
When I first used this I was a bit disappointed by the results. The product did absorb really quickly and easily into my skin but my skin only felt slightly smoother and softer. I consoled myself with the fact that at least it didn't leave me feeling sticky and I felt like I could put my pyjamas on almost immediately and then wrote this product off. However, about half an hour after I used it my skin felt really really soft. It seems that although this product absorbs really quickly into the skin it takes more time for the butter to do it's stuff and make my skin soft. It even seemed to work on my elbows, which tend to be a nightmare for dry skin. It did leave some of my drier patches still slightly dry, although much better than they had been before but overall it did leave me with the soft and smooth skin that it promised.
However, surprisingly this was short lived. I expected with this product promising 24 hour softness that it would last longer than most other body butters and lotions. I thought 24 hours would be a slight exaggeration but I still expected it to last a while. By the time I woke up the next morning, about 10 hours after putting the lotion on, my elbows were just as dry as they had always been. The rest of me was still quite soft but not as soft as I had been the night before and not any softer than I usually am after using body lotion or butter the night before. A couple of hours later it wasn't even noticeable.
==Value for money==
This body butter didn't provide the best value for money. I managed to use the one pot five times. I don't use body butters every day, I try to alternate them with body lotion due to the cost but this still didn't last me very long. It's good but I think that there's other products out there that are cheaper and equally as good.
==Rating and Recommendation==
This is a beautifully scented product that does leaves a lovely smell on your skin and in the environment. Although I found that there was a delay in this product working it does leave skin soft and smooth, even working slightly on drier patches of skin. However, it isn't particularly long lasting, regardless of what the body shop claim. Therefore this product gets 4 stars from me.
==Price and availability==
This body butter is available from the body shop for £12.50 for a 100ml pot.
