Disadvantages: Poor Quality Moisturiser
I'm not a big fan of The Body Shop. Well, I suppose 'fan' in the wrong word, I just don't buy their products really. Not for any particular reason really, it just doesn't appeal to me like other brands do. That said I'm not oppose to their various products and ranges as I always find the odd stocking filler from their in my Christmas Stocking!
I recently was bought a few Body Shop mini products as a gift from a relative. I was quite pleasantly suprised because I do love trying out lovely shower gels/bubble baths etc no matter where they are from! One of the mini's was this particular product-The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Puree. As I said it was a mini bottle (60ml) so perfect for travel size etc if you need to downsize luggage etc.
The mini bottle has a squeeze top with flip lid which secures when pressed so you don't need to worry about spillage etc and the label is very stereotypical for the Body Shop. It's plain font typing with a co-ordinating boarder and small amount of 'grapefruit' looking imagery.
The front label says the product is lightweight and provides cooling moisturisation. Condisdering the mad hot weather we have been having this week (insane isn't it for October?!) I thought it would be a nice treat to apply this in the evening after a long, hot day. I suppose I assumed the 'cooling moisturisation' would be a lovely way to help relax after getting the kids to bed and ready for a glass of vino!
The lotion itself is a very pretty and girlie shade of coral pink which does remind me of grapefruit! When you squeeze some on to your hand the texture is quite watery for a moisturiser. It's not watery enough to slide all over and off your hand but it's still more water based than expected which made me think I would need to apply less than expected to get the ideal coverage.
As I smelt the lotion before applying I was hit with a wonderful and fruity pink grapefruit scent! It was sheer bliss-very sweet, summery and fresh. Not overwhelming or heavy but strong all the same. I was very pleased with the scent, it was easy to be around and I would have been more than happy for my skin to smell like that! As I began to apply it though the smell did change a little bit. In fact as I rubbed it in I noticed while it was sinking in to my skin the scent transformed in to what I can only described as perfumed plastic. Nothing like the previous grapefruit scent. It was quite horrible really. Not offensive, but not something I wanted my skin to smell of! However a few minutes after it had dried and thoroughly sunk in to my skin the grapefruit scent returned. Although less strongly as it had now soaked in, the horrible smell had disappeared and been replaced with a lighter version of the original one.
The texture was a bit of a pain when applying. It's high water based volume meant that I wa spleased I didn't need a lot to cover each part of my body. However it's thin texture meant I didn't get the feeling of moisturisation at all. More like washing than moisturising! It also took ages to rub in and even longer to dry and nothing frustrates me more than having damp skin after moisturising so I did get a bit annoyed waiting for it to dry!
The texture as well dried in an unexpected way. It was very sticky, which was such a shame! The clear parts of my skin were left very soft and not sticky at all but any type of resistance on my body just made the texture leave a sticky residue behind. For example on my elbows and when the hair on my arms is it was also sticky. Considering we have creases etc everywhere on our bodies, it wasn't nice feeling like a had glue all over me!
Overall I would give this three out of five and that is me being generous because of the initial scent being so wonderful! It's an average moisturiser but I wouldn't buy it again although I may use this one up for getting my other half to rub my feet! It's got a nice scent but it's inability to moisturise the parts of your body where it faces resistance is the sign of a poor quality moisturiser. Also as for the cooling element-absolutely no cooling effect what-so-ever!
Summary: Nice as a gift but wouldn't purchase myself
