Advantages: Smell is divine
Disadvantages: Dries my skin out a little
*Introduction*
Whilst having a browse in the Body Shop I picked up a few bits and pieces as gifts for friends and family as a bit of early Christmas shopping. Whilst in there I figured why not treat myself as well. I'd been having a bit of a rough time at work so I thought I would be a bit self-indulgent. One of the products that I picked up was the strawberry soap.
*About the Product*
This is a vegetable based soap with fabulous strawberry scent which cleans and helps condition the skin. This soap contains strawberry juice which is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants which protects and nourishes skin as well as glycerine, a water soluble moisturiser that enriches foam and lather.
*Application*
Use this soap in either the bath or shower to create a foamy lather all over your body. Ensure that after use, you rinse it off thoroughly or you will be left with sticky skin. Not a good look or feel, trust me I have made this mistake and you'll wish you hadn't even bothered to use the soap in the first place. I have been there, done that and worn the sticky soap!
*Price and Availability*
The Body Shop Strawberry Soap is only old by the Body Shop. The clue is kind of in the name of the product. If you don't have a store that is close to where you live, don't worry. The internet is at hand and you can buy it from www.thebodyshop.co.uk.
This 100mg sweet strawberry smelling soap is available to buy for £2.40. It is not the cheapest soap around nor is it one that I would want to use on a regular basis but as a treat the superb scent and luxurious lather you get makes the cost disappear from your mind.
*My Opinion*
The packaging: The Body Shop Strawberry Soap is wrapped in a clear plastic film and underneath this you can just about see that the Body Shop's logo is pressed into the soap. Personally I think that they could just get rid of the plastic film and sell them without it.
Colour, texture and smell: The Body Shop Strawberry Soap is a red/pink colour and it looks very appealing. The texture of the soap is smooth which makes it a little difficult to hold in the bath at first. The aroma of the product is what is truly sensational. It is a gorgeous strawberry scent that is refreshing and sweet. This smell lingers on your skin for about an hour or two after use.
Did the soap help to clean and condition the skin? It did, yes, although it did dry my skin out a little more than my regular Dove soap usually does. However after I had rinsed the soap off of my skin, I was left feeling soft and smooth.
Did the soap lather up well? Yes, the soap lathers up okay when used just by your hands but if you use a flannel or sponge the effects are fantastic. This is why I suggest that you use a sponge or flannel when using the soap as you will probably end up wasting a lot of the soap in an attempt to build up a good lather otherwise.
Longevity of the product: This is the biggest downfall of the product as it doesn't last very long indeed. I would say that it endures a maximum of two weeks worth of washes for just one person. Whether this is because I like the smell of the product so much that I use too much, I'm not sure but I am always left disappointed at how quickly the big red soap disappears into nothing.
Is the soap any good for people who suffer from sensitive skin? I'm afraid I can't answer that question as my skin (other than my face) seems to take to pretty much anything.
*Would I Recommend This Product?*
I would recommend this strawberry scented soap as a stocking filler at Christmas time for friends or family or as a little treat to yourself ever once in a while. I personally wouldn't use this soap on a regular basis but I think it is great to use every couple of months.
If you don't like the smell of strawberries (although I can't understand why you wouldn't), there are also a number of different scents available including Pink Grapefruit, Mango, Coconut and Olive.
*Overall*
I really enjoyed using this strawberry soap. It left me with my skin looking and feeling fabulous. Unfortunately, the Body Shop seems to have drifted away from our thoughts now that we have the likes of Lush and the fact that Boots and Superdrug stock so many different brands these days. But this product shows that we shouldn't forget about it entirely or we might end up loosing it altogether.
Summary: A great soap for occasional use

- 09/11/09 Glycerine soap is lovely I think! Perhaps it's the glycerine content of it that makes it disappear rather quickly though. The trouble with soap in bar form is having to keep it in a soap-dish etc! I'm tempted to try this though, perhaps in pink grapefruit... |
