Advantages: Leaves your skin soft and moisturised for the whole day
Disadvantages: Expensive for regular use and wasteful on packaging
Products from The Body Shop have always been a firm favourite of mine ever since I was a child. I have very sensitive skin and have had allergic reactions to lots of cosmetic products, soaps and moisturisers. I can honestly say that in the 17 years I have used Body Shop products I have never had a problem with any of their ranges. With this in mind there is always plenty of bits from The Body Shop in my Christmas stocking, yes I still get one even at 28.
One of the items in this years stocking was The Body Shop Satsuma body butter. The tub is a bright orange colour in one of the small round tubs that all Body Shop body butter comes in. The label on the front has several satsuma's on the front and white writing over the top. The tub contains 50ml of the body butter and on The Body Shop website it is priced at £4.85, the 200ml pot is also available for £12.20. I cant imagine for one minute that my mum paid the full price for this pot, it is available in several of their gift sets so she more than likely bought one and split it up.
On opening the tub I was slightly disappointed to discover that 50ml takes up around half the size of the tub. To me this feels as if it should be against the principles of this company. Their website states "Our commitment to seeking and sustaining natural materials and ingredients, and using all our planet's resources wisely, guides our approach to business" it seems a shame to me that this promise doesn't extend to the use of over packaging.
The smell of the body butter hits you as soon as you open the lid. The scent is very sweet and is close to that of natural satsuma's. It is quite sickly smelling so if you don't like the smell of oranges or of strong scents then this is not the one for you. The colour of the butter is very pale orange and has a shiny appearance.
The website states the body butter is suitable for normal skin, however I have not had any problems using it on my sensitive skin. They describe it as "an intensive creamy all-over body moisturiser, with hydrating, zesty and invigorating Satsuma essential oil. Also containing Community Traded melon seed oil plus shea and cocoa butter for up to 24 hours moisturisation."
I will provide a link to this product as I don't want to turn this review into a long list of ingredients.

On my first use of this produce I scooped out some body butter into my hands and began to rub it into my arms, it has a very thick consistency and takes a couple of minutes to fully rub it in. I have always found the best way to apply body moisturiser it to put it on when I get out of the bath or shower. If you rub it onto your skin before you get dry it spreads and absorbs much quicker into your skin. For the best results you should then just wrap yourself in the towel for 10 minutes rather than rubbing yourself dry.
I found that this body butter left my skin feeling very soft and moisturised for the full day after use. I could still smell the satsuma scent on me all day, I didn't really mind this when I was going out to work but probably would avoid it if I was going for a night out!
This product does work out quite expensive, in order to justice to this review I used the pot every day until it ran out, it only lasted for 10 days meaning it worked out at 48.5p per day. I do love The Body Shop body butters but have never gone out and bought one. I have only ever used them when they have been given to me as a gift. Overall I would say it is a good product if you want to spoil yourself.
Summary: It's expensive but good to indulge in once in a while.
