Advantages: Smells glorious, responsibly produced, works well

Disadvantages: A bit expensive at full price

A few years ago a friend of mine bought me a gift set from The Body Shop for Christmas and amongst the items contained therein was a pot of body butter. I really wasn't expecting to like it at all; from the term 'body butter' I expected it to be really greasy and oily. I was quite wrong and have been hooked ever since!

The one I am currently using is the Satsuma Body Butter which normally retails at £12.20 for a pot containing 200ml although there is an offer on at the moment reducing the price by 20% so it is only £9.76. If you do like Body Shop products it is worth keeping your eyes open during the year as they often have special offers so it is worth stocking up when things are cheaper.

If you are a regular customer it is also worth investing in their reward card. It costs £5 per year but you get a free gift worth £5 on your birthday so you get your money back and you get 20% of all purchases in store or online. There are more benefits too so it is worth investigation.

Anyway back to the body butter.

The packaging looks really attractive as it is in a pretty orange screw topped pot with a picture of satsumas on the top together with the Body Shop logo and the name of the product in English and French.

As I unscrewed the lid I was greeted with a lovely waft of fragrance - it smelled like satsumas (obviously) and reminded me of Christmas as we always have a big bowl of satsumas and I eat them like sweets!

The butter itself is a creamy pale orange in colour as you would expect from a cream made with satsumas. It looked glossy and fairly solid almost like a spreadable butter.

I scooped a small amount out and began to apply it to my skin. As with the other body butters that I have tried I was delighted to find that it was absorbed into my skin almost immediately. My skin felt soft and smooth and smelled lovely without being the slightest bit greasy. It is ideal for me as I hate anything that feels greasy on my skin!

After a few days of use I could really see and feel the difference in the condition of my skin. It feels softer and just in generally better condition.

I have since found out that the Body Shop Body Butters are all made from cocoa butter with various different added fragrances and since cocoa butter melts at body temperature this is why the body butter is so easily absorbed into the skin.

The satsuma variety is particularly suitable for normal skin and is described on the website as 'an intensive creamy all-over body moisturiser, with hydrating, zesty and invigorating satsuma essential oil'. Apparently it also contains melon seed oil, shea and cocoa butter for up to 24 hours moisturisation.

The other fragrances of body butters available from the Body Shop are pink grapefruit (gorgeous), Japanese cherry blossom (haven't smelled this one yet), vanilla spice (too strong for me), Vitamin E (take it or leave it), moringa (fantastic smell), coconut (yuk no thanks!), cocoa butter (not keen), Shea butter (not keen), strawberry (too sweet), mango (lovely), Passion fruit (haven't smelled this one yet), Brazil nut (no thanks), olive (yuk no!), papaya (yes, yes) and hemp (take it or leave it).

Going back to the Mango Body Butter there are other items within the Body Shop range that match the Satsuma Body Butter and they are body lotion, bath & shower gel, body polish, lip butter, soap, perfume oil and even home fragrance oil. Of course, being near to Christmas there is also a gift set available.

If you take a look at the Body Shop website at www.bodyshop.co.uk you can take a look at the full range of products across all the different fragrances.

It is also worth reading about their values as a company as they are not only opposed to animal testing, but also actively seek out responsibly sourced ingredients. In 1987 they launched something called Community Trade which was one of the first examples of fair trade. This protects the suppliers, offering them a stable, long term income whilst getting the best ingredients for their products so everyone wins!

There you are then a brilliant product responsibly manufactured and that can't be bad can it?

Summary: Another lovely body butter from the Body Shop

I love this too & many other of the flavours in the range (if flavours is the right word?), but they are expensive.

Interesting, I prefer the scents you don't and dislike the ones you do!

Satsumas? Wrong, just plain wrong.
