Advantages: Affordable, super soft, none greasy
Disadvantages: None that i can see
I've tried a number of Body shop body butters and have always enjoyed the scent and the luxurious feel of the product on the skin. I usually stick to the fruitier varieties such as mango and plum. But last month this came free from Marie Claire magazine so i have been testing it ever since.
What body shop say:
This butter is made from community trade shea butter which is supposed to moisturise very dry skin. They say it can leave your skin moisturised for up to 24 hours
What i got:
I received a 50ml small tub of this product from the magazine. This usually retails at £4.85 for the same size tub and is available at Body Shops nationwide.
The consistency and packaging:
The product is a VERY thick cream that i would say doesnt have an over powering scent. To me it smells a little of natural yogurt but then again i am useless at explaining smells. What i would say is that you can happily wear this and wear a perfume on top unlike the fruitier butters that just clash horribly with other scents. The packaging is simple and practical. You simply open the top (screw top), scoop out a little and away you go. This size is great for travel or for my gym bag.
What i thought:
I don't have overly dry skin but do have the usual dry patches elbows, knees and heels. This stuff worked a dream! It quikly sank in and didn't leave a greasy film on my skin unlike other thick body lotions. I also used the butter on my legs after shaving. This left them wonderfully soft and smooth. My legs are VERY sensitive after shaving but this did not react or irritate me at all. This is surprising as even sensitive lotions make my skin angry and red after shaving. I also found that the smooth feeling lasted much longer than my usuall moisturiser. When i put it on at night i still left soft in the morning when i woke up.
The ingredients (these are from the body shop):
Aqua (Water) (Solvent/Diluent), Butyrospermum parkii (Shea Butter) (Emollient), Cyclomethicone (Emollient), Theobroma cacao (Cocoa Butter) (Emollient), Glycerin (Humectant), Glyceryl Stearate (Emulsifier), PEG-100 Stearate (Surfactant), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Cera Alba (Beeswax) (Emulsifier/Emollient), Orbignya oleifera (Babassu Oil) (Emollient), Lanolin Alcohol (Stabiliser/Emollient), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Parfum (Fragrance), Methylparaben (Preservative), Propylparaben (Preservative), Xanthan Gum (Viscosity Modifier), Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Coumarin (Fragrance Ingredient), Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone (Fragrance Ingredient), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Fragrance Ingredient), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Citronellol (Fragrance Ingredient), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Geraniol (Fragrance Ingredient), Eugenol (Fragrance Ingredient), Caramel (Colour), CI 19140 (Colour).
All in all:
I would highly recommend this. Not only for people with dry skin. After all who of us can say that we don't want super soft skin that stays that way?
Summary: For super soft skin that shines with health give this a go!

- 15/05/09 Good review. I wouldn't bother including all the ingredients, just pick our any that might be worthy of comment (common allergies or similar). |
