Illuminating moisturiser is simply a daily moisturiser with the inclusion of light reflecting particles to give your skin a healthy looking glow. It is said that when used regularly, your skin will benefit from looking radiant as well as being hydrated and moisturised. I had been concerned my face would look shiny if I used an illuminating moisturiser and this is something I wanted to avoid. I have always had combination skin with a mixture of dry and oily patches, however as I hit 40 I began to notice the dry patches slowly overtaking the oily ones and although I still experience some oily patches on my face, the dryness irritates me more and if I didn''t use a daily moisturiser my face and neck would feel dry, tight and sore. I also sometimes suffer with sensitive skin on my face and when it flares up from time to time and blemishes appear, it can feel sore and dry so I need a product which won''t irritate my skin, but will leave it feeling thoroughly moisturised. I was curious to try this illuminating moisturise cream, but taking everything into account, I wasn''t sure it would be right for me. The Body Shop have a range of Vitamin E products. This illuminating moisturiser contains light-reflective particles for a healthier looking glow. It promises to provide daily hydration and enhance radiance and is suitable for all skin types. Directions for use are simple, you smooth the cream evenly onto your face and neck after cleansing and toning. The cream is pale pink in colour and is lightly fragranced. It comes in a 50ml pot with a twist off lid and is priced at 10.00GBP from The Body Shop. Because of the problems I experience which I mentioned above I thought this cream may make things worse and I was nervouse about using it. Indeed I am usually trying to mattify my skin if anything and conceal any redness/blemishes, whilst keeping it hydrated and moisturised without being oily. This can be tricky when you have combination skin. The cream is a pale pink colour and has an appealing light fragrance. It feels really creamy as you scoop some out of the tub onto your fingertips and is easy to apply. It feels really light and absorbs fairly quickly into my skin as I apply using circular movements with my fingertips. From the first application I loved how light it feels having used some heavier moistursers in the past and it immediately makes my skin feel fresh and smooth without being greasy. Using this cream instantly transforms both the look and feel of my skin upon application. It also serves as a good base for applying make up. It was the ''illuminating'' factor which worried me at first, but I need not have worried because all this cream does is give my face a radiant glow which looks natural and doesn''t enhance the oily patches or make blemishes appear more red or more pronounced.
I thought I would buy this cream to use on 'no make-up days' to give my skin a bit of a lift. I use the normal vitamin e moisturiser every day under my make up. I have to say I wasn't overwhelmed with the effect of this cream. In the pot it has a slight sheen to it and when I put it on my face I can't say I really noticied it 'illuminating' my skin. It is a bit sticky-er than the normal cream as it has a slightly thicker texture. I haven't used much of this as it didn't give the effect I wanted. I will be using it as a normal moisturiser when my other cream has run out, but after that I won't be buying again and will just be sticking to the normal vitamin e moisturiser. Having said all that, it did moisturise my skin and kept it feeling soft all day - so not all bad!
As my mom spent quite a bit on the Bodyshop gift set she got me for my birthday she got loads of samples thrown in for free but a lot of these so-called samples cam in massive tubs and this "The Body Shop Vitamin E Illuminating Moisture Cream" was no different and I was really dying to try it out because the creams I have tried from this range in the past had been really brilliant. You could say that this little pot had a lot to live up to and it would never meet the high expectations I had - maybe I asked for too much? As overall I was quite disappointed with this one - I definitely not one of The Bodyshop's best!
Price: £9 - 50ml Tub
Stockists: The Bodyshop
For: Moisturising your face & as it contains light reflecting particles it will also give your face a subtle glow.
The consistency of this cream in bang on the money because it is just right. Its thick enough to feel nourishing and be a great base for make-up but runny enough to spread evenly over your face without using too much or feeling like you've got loads on. This cream sinks in really quickly which is why I recommend using it for the daytime - I believe I need something a little heavier and thicker in the night so my skin is more nourished. The one gripe people seem to have with this is that because it is in a tub it is less hygienic than if it were in a tube. But as long as you wash your hands that shouldn't be a problem - Ive never had any infections caused by this anyway!
Now as I said at the start of this review I have mixed opinions. So Ill try and start off with the things I like - contrary to popular belief I don't like hating products LOL. I do like that the cream is very nourishing and my face always feels soft and smooth when Ive used it. I apply this in the mornings before my make-up to prevent any dry skin breakouts during the day and for that purpose it is brilliant. So it does deliver intense moisture throughout the day and works as a great base for your make-up. If my review was based on those things alone then this product would be getting 5 stars without question but...
It promised to illuminate my skin and didnt. I dont think my skin has any extra glow or radiance after using this - no more so than usual anyway. I honestly cannot see any difference except the fact that my skin feels much smoother. Appearance wise though it looks the same as always so I guess I feel a little cheated by this cream. It promised things it couldn't deliver and I do feel a little let down.
If your just looking for a face cream that nourishes and protects your skin then I do recommend this. But if you want something to give you a healthy glow or more radiance then look elsewhere as this simply doesnt do that. 2 stars overall from me...I had such high hopes!

The standard Vitamin E cream from the Body Shop which is suitable for most skin types especially normal to dry skin is really popular and i have used it on and off for years. Vitamin E is an antioxidant so helps protect skin from toxins that we encounter on a daily basis. I thought i would try out this illuminating moisture cream when they had a 3 for 2 on skincare instore as i think it's usually about £8 which is still quite reasonable. The cream comes in a 50ml pink pot and is really easy to apply. One pot lasts around two months based on using it every morning. Although it does give a healthy glow it made me feel almost as if i had a layer of something coating my skin and it irritated me - i felt like i wanted to give my face a wash all day and i actually felt it made my skin look a bit greasy rather than giving a healthy glow. I'm sure this product is great for some people but i will stick with the regular Vitamin E cream which i think is absolutely fab!
I guess to some degree I am quite lucky, having combination skin (a mixture between greasy and dry) means I get the best of both worlds and I usually don't have many problems when it comes to the skin on my face. I don't come out in huge breakouts, I don't get all shiny and slippery and my skin doesn't look like the bad side of sandpaper. But what it does mean is that I can find it hard to get a good cream suitable for the 'in between' kind of skin. If I tend to use face creams 'for greasy skin' then my face becomes dry and tight, and likewise if I use cream for dry skin, it never seems to soak in and then it brings me out in pimples. My face reacts as though it has been fried in oil!
The only time my skin does verge into one category is when it has just been washed and exfoliated. Then it gets a little tight and dry, and this is when I need an emergency skin repair kit to get my skin back to normal. Subsequently, I am always on the look out for a kind, gentle moisturiser but one that fits my skin type. I am also guilty of having what I think as quite bland, dull skin and even with makeup my face tends to look a bit, well dreary!
I recently started to use highlighters that work a bit like bronzer, you brush a little on to the cheeks and a dash over the nose and forehead and it brings your face to life. But I found these expensive and to be honest I forgot to apply it most mornings as I can be in such a rush! (Plus I can be a little lazy in the mornings!)
When I found this illuminating moisture cream in the well know health and beauty house The Body Shop I thought hey, it's a 2-in-1.... A facial moisturiser mixed in with a highlighter. I thought I might as well give it a go and see how it worked.
Being a bit of a girly girl, the pink tub the cream comes in obviously won me over straight away and with even more charming baby pink cream inside, it was love at first sight! The cream reminds me of creamy strawberry yogurt. It is quite thick and a little goes along way, so you just need to dab a bit on and massage it in. As a face moisturiser it works amazingly. It softens and smoothes the skin instantly and over a period of time it seems to increase the overall texture of the skin and makes it look healthier and feel silkier. The illuminating effect it has also means that with or without make-up my skin looks extra healthy and it definitely gives me a little glow. The cream has tiny light reflection particles that add a very light shimmer to the skin, there is no colour added to the face, just a slight pearlescent effect to the skin is the best way to describe it. It is great for the days when you don't want to put any makeup on but you still want your face to look a little fresh and appealing. I must warn you that if you do apply the cream too thickly you might find you have a pink tinge to your skin rather then a glow! Because of its smoothing effects it is a great base for backup and makes your skin look a little fresher. I could still use my highlighter cream to add a bit more of a glow but now I can keep that for more special occasions, and use this cream for an everyday skin perk.
The cream smells very clean and fresh, similar to baby lotion. It is quite floral but really very pleasant. However the scent doesn't stay around for very long so no need to worry too much about the fragrance. I do get sensitive skin at times but I have had no problems with this whatsoever and I have even felt that it can be quite soothing lotion after things like being in the sun or getting my eyebrows waxed! I go bright pink anyway so this will blend right in!
The Vitamin E variety of products is the best selling range in the body shop. Vitamin E is known to be a great Antioxidant that helps to protect the skin against those nasty environmental elements. This helps to prevent damage to the skin from things such as smoking, the sun, and pollution. With the added benefit of skin nourishing Shea Butter, the Body Shop range of Vitamin E cream is perfect for the skin.
At £8 for 50ml, it may be a little expensive for some, but my tub usually lasts me a couple of months and it is one of the few creams that I have continued to buy time and time again. Plus like I said before it saves you buying a moisturiser and a highlighter! This product is only available form The Body Shop, but as they are also an online retailer you can shop from the comfort of your own home as well as hitting the high street!
In my opinion, this is a cream for combination or dry skin, as it is quite thick it really sinks in and adds the much needed moisture needed for that type of skin. But because of this I wouldn't advice it for people who suffer from greasy skin as I would imagine it would add to the already over-created moisture that the skin has. But I guarantee that if you try this you will see the benefits and it will end up being something you use time and time again. A recommended product from me!
Thank you for reading! :-)
I'm a big fan of the body shops vitamin E range. One of my favorites being the Vitamin E Illumination Moisture Cream.
Vitamin E is extremely good for the skin, the antioxidents help prevent the skin from the elements. Its a brilliant moisturiser that helps to protect your skin.
The cream contains she butter which helps to soften the skin.
That i particularly like about this moisturizer if that not only does it make your skin silk soft, but they have added fine light reflectors, this gives your skin an instant healthy looking glow.
The cream is pink in colour and has a subtle scent.
I find that when ever i use this moisturizer my face looks and feels great, people have commented in the past when i have used it.
A tub contains 50ml of the cream and retails at £9.00.
Whilst this may seem pricey if you compare it to other high street moisturizers you will see that it is brilliant value for money.
I totally recommend this facial moisturizer.
