My husbands auntie always gets me Body Shop stuff for Christmas, she got me various items from their White Musk range- 'talc' being one of them. A look on their website informs me of the price being £6 for 100g although I'm not surprised because the Body Shop can be dearer than other brands. There is however offers on- for example £10 off when you spend £25.
The body powder is described as a 'Sensual Body Powder'. It comes in a smallish cardboard tube, simply designed with the Body Shop logo and what it is printed on the front. As always the ingredient list on the back is many. It tells us that it's 'Talc infused with musk mallow and skin softening Community Trade cocoa butter'. The tube itself is pearlescent white/ lilac, good quality and looks expensive. The plastic top turns to reveal the holes to dispense the powder.
The holes shake out a beautifully fine white silky powder, it's almost like a brilliant white soft flour or more accurately icing sugar. It has a really smooth texture and smells of a delicate floral musk. Musk is not a scent I'd choose for myself as it has a reputation of being old fashioned however this has a light fragrance which is rather pleasant. The smell lingers on me for a good few hours after applying.
I just sprinkle some on and rub it in, I don't need much to get a light cover. The powder feels soft on my skin and absorbs any excess water after a shower, especially welcome in the cold weather- helps warm me up a bit. I can tell it has moisturising properties because my skin doesn't feel dried out whilst using it. The cocoa butter doesn't make the talc claggy at all, even being kept in a steamy bathroom hasn't clogged it up.
I've had no adverse reactions to this Sensual talc, it leaves me feeling silky smooth, doesn't dry or clog my skin, smells nice, a little goes along way, it's animal friendly and uses Fair Trade cocoa butter. However £6 for 100g at full price does seem a bit steep so 4 stars from me.
I'd recommend it but will only buy it myself when it can be bought on offer.
Talc is not something that I tend to wear very often thinking that it is something more for older women but the exception to this is the Body Shops Sensual Body Powder as it smells absolutely amazing and actually feels lovely on my skin too.
It smells exactly like the White Musk perfume only a lot lighter. The lighter fragrance is gorgeous though and it complements the other products in the range perfectly. I usually use this just for my own enjoyment at night after I have been in the bath so that I can layer some of the white musk products and enjoy the fragrance on myself for the rest of the evening.
The powder leaves my skin feeling lovely and soft with a powdery satin feel to it. I love to use this on hot summer nights as it really helps keep my skin dry and stops me from feeling so clamy. I also sometimes sprinkle some of this on my sheets on hot nights as it works really well to absorb excess sweat when it is warm.
The main reason for me buying this is definitely the smell though as I enjoy it so much and layering this with the other products in the range is a lovely way of enjoying the fragrance in a lighter and more subtle way that with just the perfume itself. The perfume is really fragrant and quite strong which I actually like but for people who like the smell but maybe think it is a bot overpowering this is a great way of enjoying the fragrance.
This costs £6 which I think is a fantastic price especially as you only need a little at a time to enjoy it and I find that the 100g tub lasts me for ages at a time. I think this is a beautiful product and one that I personally really enjoy and I can definitely see why it is called a sensuous powder as it has a feeling of being luxurious and even though it goes perfectly well with the other products in the range it can be enjoyed really well on its own as well.
For me this is the only body powder that I have to have and the only one which I buy for myself on a regular basis and I personally think it is a must for any fans of the fragrance.
The Product, 'White Musk Sensual Body Powder' ~ 'Sitting On A Powder Keg'!
This gorgeous talc comes in a beautiful shimmering lilac cylinder tub. The renowned 'Body shop' symbol precedes the bold lettering noting the contents of this lovely cosmetic. The product contains 100g of fragrant particles. With a co-ordinating mauve twist top lid, the product gives a luxurious impression even before the contents are revealed. The lid has two protruding small ledges to promote easy turning and with six ample holes, the powder can run freely when shaken.
The Body shop gives their product description for this talc as 'A light body powder that absorbs excess moisture on the skin to leave it smooth, dry and subtly scented with the classic soft and floral White Musk(®) fragrance', so does it live up to its hype?
My Usage Experience ~ 'Powder Room'!
I receive this attractive product as a gift from my daughter. I was thrilled to receive the talc as I don't generally purchase such luxuries for myself.
I love to apply the powder after a shower if I'm not applying body lotion. Ensuring my skin is completely dry; I sit on my bed and administer the powder liberally over my body, neck down. Upon first shaking the tub, loosening any settled grains, a most wonderful scent is released through the lid's openings. By sprinkling a light film of powder whilst sitting on my sheets, means that when I retire to bed that night, I will be welcomed by the most inviting aromatic fragrance as the residue of talc had fallen onto the bedding when applying the product beforehand. Who doesn't like the smell of fresh perfumed sheets? :~)
The initial notes that come to mind when first applying the talcum is the exotic aroma of musk, with undertones of vanilla and light scented rose. After a brief time the bouquet settles to fragrant amber, touch of lily and rose but still predominantly spicy musk.
The light film of fragrant dusty crumbs fall like a loose snow shower and feels so velvety smooth against my skin. That softness remains throughout the day but the subtle essence of the perfumed powder is fairly undetectable unless I inhale the scent close to my skin. When layered with other musk fragrant cosmetics, like perfume or body sprays, this can enhance those undertones.
This isn't a shimmery powder, but if you do use a glimmering talc, I find the best place to use this type of talcum is across my shoulders and collar bones. Not only is it very effective, giving an attractive glistening to the skin but when applied around the chest and neck areas tends to hold the balm more effectively due to one's natural body heat.
There are many uses for older or unused powders. I have a friend that uses dry shampoo between washes. These products can be fairly expensive, so by simply sprinkling a small amount of talc in the palms of your hands, ensuring any excess is discarded, gently rub through the strands of the hair will tone down any greasy parts that give an unappealing look! And of course, if the talc is scented, the better!
Exercise routines will benefit too. A good dusting over with powder will help to prevent heat rash, friction burns and unwanted odour until shower time!
A safe way to discourage pest like ants is to pepper their trail with talcum powder. The ants will not be amused and scatter, deterring their return for quite a while!
Would I recommend? ~ Off to 'Powder My Nose'! :~)
Absolutely! This is a little taste of luxury that won't cost the earth, quite literally! And The Body shop is against animal testing too! There's a twenty-four month shelf life on this product which adds to its appeal. As long as the product is kept in a cool dry place with the lid closed, the contents will remain as new.
