~White Musk Body Lotion~
Today I will be reviewing the 'Smooth Satin Body Lotion' which is part of the The Body Shop White Musk collection. This collection includes a number of matching products including a perfume and body mist.
This body lotion is described as being a 'lightweight' lotion which will leave skin soft, smooth and scented. It contains synthetic 'cruelty-free' musk which is a blend of jasmine, rose, amber and wood. - details from www.thebodyshop.co.uk.
This body lotion is presented in rather simple looking packaging which consists of a tall, slim bottle made of clear plastic. There is flip top lid concealing a small dispensing hole and the bottle has a whole host of product information present. It is worth noting that this lotion should be used within 12 months of opening and that the bottle can be recycled once empty. I would say that the packaging is functional rather than stylish.
~Where To Buy~
The Body Shop products can be bought in store or from www.thebodyshop.co.uk. This body lotion can be purchased in two sizes. Expect to pay £10.00 for the 250ml bottle and £13.00 for 400ml. Look out for special offers and discounts which are often up to 50% off.
I can't say that I am a huge fan of The Body Shop but I never turn away free beauty products. My Mum gave me this 200ml bottle of body lotion as whilst she loves the White Musk perfume, she doesn't care much for body lotions (except Sanctuary Spa). I quite like the White Musk scent myself and have a small bottle so have experience of using this body lotion alone and also with the matching perfume.
I like to apply body lotions or butters to my skin on a twice daily basis. Some parts of my skin are very dry and need to be regularly moisturised whilst other parts aren't quite so bad. Which products I use on which areas of my body depend on how moisturising said product is and I became good at knowing what works for my skin.
The lotion has a lovely consistency which is easy to work with. It isn't too thin or drippy but at the same time, it isn't a thick and indulgent body lotion that leaves my feeling pampered. The lotion spreads effortlessly across my skin and offers a soothing sensation as it feels really cool. I find it perfect for applying after a hot shower as it calms my skin down quickly and leaves it feeling very comfortable and refreshed. This body lotion doesn't absorb quite as quickly as I would like. Despite being lightweight, I do find that even if I give it a good rub into my skin that there is a slight sticky residue on my skin for a good 10 minutes or so after application.
Once fully absorbed though, my skin does feel silky smooth. I find that my skin feels hydrated after applying this body lotion. It is very gentle and hasn't irritated my sensitive skin. I would say that it isn't the most moisturising of body lotions but tummy area, chest and my legs do feel soft for quite a few hours. This lotion does leave the rough areas (my arms mainly) feeling soft for a few hours but doesn't intensely moisturise these areas enough for long lasting softness. I have applied it to dry patches (knees, elbows etc) and it isn't intensive enough to combat the dryness for long periods of time but to be fair, The Body Shop don't market this as being specifically for extra dry skin.
Scent-wise, this body lotion is lovely and is a light version of the White Musk perfume. It isn't a stand out scent but is quite soft, feminine and not too strong on my skin. I notice a subtle floral scent with the rose and jasmine blending together nicely and complimenting a soft, pretty and slightly powdery musk. The body lotion scent lasts on my skin for a few hours on its own. I do find that the perfume and the lotion together is a little too heavy for my personal tastes but the scent does last most of the day when both products are worn together. If you want a mild but pleasant scent on your skin then this is the ideal lotion to use.
You don't need to apply much of this body lotion for skin to be left soft and beautifully scented. It is expensive but can often be bought at a reduced price by taking advantage of the promotions run by The Body Shop. I like this body lotion as it is nice to wear as a change from my highly perfumed body lotions. It isn't one that I would choose to wear on a daily basis personally but if White Musk is one of your favourite scents, I would say this will appeal as a daily use product. I am happy to use my bottle up and recommend it but don't think I would buy a bottle once it is finished as it isn't my favourite body lotion and doesn't provide long lasting nourishment for my skin. It is of a high quality and a 200ml bottle will last well.
Thanks for reading :)
