Advantages: Smell lingers after use. lathers up well
Disadvantages: The removal of the passionfruit range for this and the sickly sweet smell of cherry and sugar
On a routine visit to the body shop one Saturday afternoon, I saw a new scent called wild cherry. There are tester pots around that are available to open and smell, and I thought that it smelt a little sickly so thought I'll just stick to buying my passionfruit shower gel rather than change.
"Did you know" says the shop assistant to me, "that the wild cherry range will be replacing the passionfruit range in late spring?"
WHAT!!!
Now I have never said a bad word against the body shop as I respect its values, and I adore their products but I could not believe that they were discontinuing the passion fruit range. It's a huge disappointment to me, so grudgingly I took a free sample of wild cherry shower gel to try it and see why they are bringing this range out compared to the gorgeous smelling passionfruit range.
*The Body Shop*
Their values are amazing, ranging from standing against animal testing (I personally only agree with testing medication on rats to fight diseases (like cancer or HIV) in the first stages of making new drugs), to using recycled packaging and protecting our planet, to defending human rights and supporting community trade in Lower Economically Developed Countries (LEDCs). Their recent campaigns which they dedicate certain products (and donate money made from the products) include the fight against HIV and aids around the world and domestic violence in the home. Their slogan on their self esteem issues is a great line: "There are 3 billion women who don't look like supermodels and only 8 that do."
*The Smell of cherry shower gel*
As I open the lid, a sickly sweet smell of cherry wafts out the tiny tester pot. It does smell of cherries but it smells really sugary. As I look at the ingredients online, the body shop have included honey in it to moisturise which would explain why it smells of sickly sugars. However, it's strong enough to notice the smell after using it on your body.
*Ingredients*
Looking at the ingredients of this product online, I can see that there are a lot of chemicals involved. For a company which claims that it uses less chemicals and more natural ingredients, this shower gel contains chemicals like: Parfum, Mel, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, all chemicals which don't derive from cherry seeds or honey.
*Using the shower gel*
Open the lid; squeeze the gel onto a flannel or in my case a body bath lily. Rub it in to get it bubbly, and cleanse your body. Cherry shower gel bubbles up well on the bath lily, cleans the body well and the bath lily still smells of the sickly cherry after use. The gel is soft on the skin whilst not irritating it, and the smell lingers once I have rinsed it off my body.
*Conclusion*
Overall, the shower gel bubbles up well, is soft and smooth on my skin however, I'm not keen on the overpoweringly sickly cherry smell. Although it lingers on the skin after use, it's not my favourite shower gel - I'd much rather be using passionfruit shower gel or strawberry shower gel. Overall, I'd give this product a 7out of 10 because it did clean well, the smell still lingered after use and it lathered up well. However, the smell is too sweet and sickly for me, so if you like sweet sickly smelling fragrances then I would recommend that you try this.

- 24/03/09 I treated myself at the beginning of March to some Body shop goodies, and the Wild Cherry range was new so thought I would try some of it...as it was my birthday I received a free shower gel and I also received a free body butter (small one) as I had spent over £20 (also discounted with my membership card) I have the shower gel, the body butter and also the lip butter in wild cherry and love them all...although they are a bit too sickly sweet for everyday use. I prefer the Shea butter for that. x |
