Advantages: Smells gorgeous, cheap to try and a little goes a long way
Disadvantages: Doesn't seem to do as well as other moisturising products in the range or elsewhere
For my birthday I received a lovely bag of Sanctuary goodies, and I'm going to be working my way through reviewing them. Pretty slowly, actually, because this product I'm reviewing today isn't one of the gifts, but something I bought today on a whim to add to my collection, as I adore the scent of their "Spa Essentials" range.
If you're unfamiliar with Sanctuary, they're a chain of spas as well as being an indulgent, yet pretty affordable, bath and body brand found at Boots. They have several ranges, and the product I am reviewing today is from the "Spa Essentials" range, which focuses less on fancy packaging and more on delivering products which work.
I'd never tried a moisturising spray before, and was a bit dubious, but after spritzing a squirt onto my arm and getting a whiff, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try a travel size. The scent, the same as others in this range, is gorgeous, light and sweet without being overly feminine or floral-smelling.
This is a lightweight alternative to using a lotion or body butter (Sanctuary's in this range, by the way, is excellent) and definitely a useful item to have in your bag if you're planning to bare your legs this summer. I spritzed a couple of sprays onto each leg and rubbed it in. At first I was concerned that it did feel a bit greasy, but it very soon sank in and left such a sheen that it would rival any girl on a Venus ad!
My hands did feel quite slick after rubbing it in, and I did have to wash my hands. I don't like having to do this with moisturisers so this is a bit of a thumbs down, but I suppose it does have oils, including sweet almond and jojoba, in the ingredients.
The scent on the skin is long-lasting, and my legs feel smooth and soft, however I don't think this spray beats a good lotion. While my skin does feel like it has benefited, I can't help feeling it's not as "deep down" an effect as non-spray moisturisers. If that makes any sense whatsoever! The sheen is a plus, and it's handy size means I will be able to carry it around and apply more conveniently when on holiday, etc, but I can't find anything this does significantly better than other products to warrant a repurchase. Fortunately it seems a little will go a very long way, so I would probably recommend trying out the 50ml sample size (£2.20) before opting for a larger bottle (250ml - £5.33).
Not for me, but the scent is so nice maybe I can just use it as a perfume!!
Summary: Convenient, no-mess application, but otherwise pretty "blah".
