Advantages: Works to smooth skin, packaging looks great, fairly cheap
Disadvantages: Smell is not for me
I had never used the Sanctuary range of products before but I recently received a big Sanctuary gift bag for my birthday with lots of different things in so decided to give it a try.
The Sanctuary began as a Spa in Covent Garden over 30 years ago. Their philosophy is all about providing the time, space and expertise for women to renew that glow. I've never been to the Spa but friends have been and they do say that it is a wonderful experience and definitely a very upmarket product.
The Sanctuary beauty products were produced in 1998. Customers had been wanting to take the spa experience home with them without needing a therapist or special equipment so they came up with the idea of selling their products. Apparently they are only sold exclusively at Boots and of course you can buy them in the spa's themselves.
The gift pack that I got for my birthday was £20 but you can buy the products individually. If you were to buy the Body Scrub it would be £2.25 for 50ml (the size in the gift pack) or £4.75 for 200ml.
The packaging of all the Sanctuary products is very distinctive orange colour with black writing on the front. I think this gives the products quite an upmarket and classy look and makes you think to begin with that they are a very good product. I had definitely thought this whenever I had seen it in Boots even before I had tried the products. The lotion or whatever inside is usually a lovely orange colour too.
This leads me to the smell. Now whether or not the colour had anything to do with it but before I ever smelt these I always thought they would have quite a nice orange smell and be quite fruity but I was very wrong. The smell is more like a spice smell and the kind that you would get when you visit a spa and have a treatment. I am not really a big fan of the smell. I don't really like it in Spa's when you come out smelling a bit chemically but saying that it is not totally off-putting.
The body scrub includes fragrant patchouli and orange oil. I had never heard of patchouli so I looked it up and apparently it is bushy herb of the mint family! I don't really find this scrub overly minty smelling so perhaps it's just a hint and like I said I can't really smell the orange either.
I have used the scrub for a few weeks now and think it's a really great product. It's very easy to use. When in the shower you just massage it into your wet skin and then rinse off. Body Scrub is intended to rejuvenate, refine and smooth skin. It has little natural pumice beads in it which in my opinion gently rub away the dead skin and leave you feeling nice and smooth. This product has definitely worked for me. I find my arms are a lot smoother after use and I also find as soon as I get out of the shower after use my skin in rather invigorated and awakened, just like it says it would on the bottle.
Definitely a product I would recommend and I am on my way to get some more as the 50ml bottle did not last long.
Summary: A great spa product that you can use at home to smooth and invigorate skin!
