Advantages: The soft feel your skin has after use.
Disadvantages: Price.
*Introduction*
Like I've said in my earlier beauty product reviews, I always used to think that products like moisturisers and scrubs were a complete waste of money. I didn't see the benefits that you got from a body scrub or hand cream. I am now a nightmare for trying every different type of moisturiser or scrub available. The Sanctuary Body Scrub is yet another of the products that I had as part of a gift set that sat in a drawer of mine until a year ago when I dug it out and gave it a try.
*The Claim*
Sanctuary Body Scrub claims to rejuvenate, refine and smooth skin.
*About Sanctuary Body Scrub*
This scrub says that is will gently polish and can be used daily to rejuvenate, refine and smooth skin. It also states that the fragrant patchouli, orange oil and natural pumice work together to leave your skin awakened, invigorated, sublimely soft and with a natural glow.
*Application*
I found that a fair quantity of the scrub was required to reach the desired effect with this product. I squeezed an amount that covered the majority of my palm and applied it to slightly damp skin. I then massaged it into my skin in large circular motions, as directed on the tube. I apply it whilst in the bath or shower and focus predominantly on my legs and stomach when using the scrub as I find these are the areas of my body that the scrub works nicely on. After the scrub has been rubbed in adequately, you need to rinse it off thoroughly and pat dry. It is advised that you use this body scrub daily to achieve the desired results.
*What Not To Do*
There are several warning on the back of the tube that are fairly important. The first is that you do not use on your face. The results of this will not be good, so stick to your body only. Also, avoid contact with your eyes. If you do happen to get the product in your eyes, make sure that you rinse immediately with clean water. The other thing is to ensure that you don't apply to broken or damaged skin, as this is more likely to do more harm than good.
*Price and Availability*
Sanctuary Body Scrub in a 200ml tube is available to buy for £4.88. I don't find this to be particularly good value for money due to the fact that the product doesn't seem to last much longer than a month if you use it on a daily basis which is what the instructions on the packaging suggest. However, if you do decide that you would like to try this product, I recommend taking Boots and The Sanctuary up on their 3 for 2 offer that is regularly available to take advantage of.
The body scrub is available to buy from your local Boots store or the Boots on-line website. Alternatively, you can purchase it on-line from www.thesanctuary.co.uk.
*My Opinion*
The packaging: The packaging of the Sanctuary body scrub is the same as most of their other products: simple yet classic. Like the body butter and body wash that I have previously reviewed, the packaging is distinctly recognisable to the Sanctuary brand. The body scrub itself is a clear 200ml squeeze tube with an orange flip lid. This lid is also the stand of the product. It's very easy to use with wet hands if you are in the bath or shower so the packaging definitely gets my approval.
Colour, texture and smell: The scrub is a bright orange colour that looks and feels grainy. The texture of this product reminds me of sand as it is gritty. This is in order to get rid of your dead skin and leave your skin feeling soft. I didn't find the texture to be gritty enough and didn't find it to leave your skin feeling as soft as other scrubs that I have used do. Although, for those of you that don't like the very grainy scrubs, this would be perfect. The smell of this product is divine. For me, it is definitely the best thing about the product. It smells of orange with a slightly spicy scent. Once you have used the scrub, the smell lingers on your body for quite some time without being too overpowering which I think is nice.
Longevity of the product: This is a huge negative for me. I found that the body scrub didn't last a particularly long time. Unlike some of the other body scrubs that I have used in the past, a little certainly does not go a long way. The tube lasted me just under a month as I used it on a daily basis as suggested. Whether I was using too much of the product, I don't know but there are definitely better body scrubs on the market than this Sanctuary version.
Does it rejuvenate and refine your skin? And is your skin left awakened and invigorated? Yes to both of those questions. I was fairly impressed with this product as from the second that the scrub is rinsed off, your skin feels considerably smoother. Is it sublimely soft? I cannot deny that my legs are significantly smoother after using this product. Am I left with a natural glow? If I'm honest, not really. It's the moisturiser I use afterwards that tends to do this but perhaps I'm wrong.
*Would I Recommend This Product?*
As much as I felt that the product fulfilled its promise, I would not recommend the product as I didn't find it to be good value for money. I would instead suggest that you try the Garnier Skin Naturals Bodytonic Sugar Scrub as this is only ten pence cheaper yet lasts significantly longer.
*Overall*
All in all, despite not having any real gripes with the actual product, I wouldn't buy this product again as I don't think it is good value for money and there are a number of different products that are slightly better and last longer. And remember to think 3 for 2 if you do decide to buy it.
Summary: Great as a gift but I wouldn't buy myself.

- 22/06/09 A more pleasant, albeit more expensive alternative to the old fashioned 'scrub' - sugar and olive oil. It was very affective, leaving the body glowing, soft and smooth, but smelling a bit like salad dressing. |
