Advantages: Very cheap and makes the teeth noticeable whiter.
Disadvantages: Makes the teeth sensitive for a day after, hard to properly mould the mouthpieces.
I used to hate my top teeth - they were always a yellow tinted colour no matter what toothpaste/mouthwash I used. I was desperate to get them whitened before I went on holiday but couldn't afford to get it done professionally. I had a look on the net for an at home kit but found that most of them had health warnings and stuff and I really don't want to risk my teeth. Then I found www.smile-brighter.co.uk which said that it's products complied with FDA/EU regulations. I bought the trial pack for £5.99.
The product is 22% carbamide peroxide (same strength as used by dentists) and comes in a 3ml syringe. It also comes with 2 mouldable mouth pieces. Word of warning - before dipping the mouthpieces into the boiling water practise putting the mouthpiece on and sucking and moulding it to your teeth. I didn't do this and had to bin my first mould as I hadn't moulded it properly. The instructions say to dip the mouthpiece into just boiled water for 5-10 seconds. Any longer and you will ruin the mouthpiece. Quickly shake off the excess water as you lift it out of the water, don't worry you won't burn yourself as the mould stays cool. Be very quick to put the mouthpiece over your teeth and suck in the air while pressing it into your teeth with your fingers. You shouldn't need to hold it longer than about 15 seconds.
You then take the mouthpiece off and squeeze a layer of the gel across the front of the mouthpiece. Pop it in your mouth and try not to talk for about an hour (or longer if you want but I'd recommend only trying it out for an hour the first few times).
After an hour treatment my teeth weren't noticably whiter but I could see a difference when comparing them to my bottom teeth. My teeth were quite sensitive for a day after using the gel. I've applied it another few times, waiting about 2 days between each treatment and my teeth are definately much whiter and brighter and I actually got a few comments about my white teeth on holiday! I have used 5 applications of it and still have enough for about another 2.
The website is a little misleading - it gives the impression that results can be seen immediately but really it takes a couple of weeks of applying it every other day to really make an impact. The mouthpieces could also be a little easier to mould but I guess this is what you get for £5.99! Definately worth buying although could be an even better kit out there somewhere.
Summary: Not a miracle cure but it does work

- 21/09/09 I'm always a bit wary about using these sorts of kits but this sounds quite effective and easy to use x |
