Advantages: Smooth upper lip

Disadvantages: Quick pain...

This could be a sensitive subject for many, but I am going to hold my head up high and write about facial hair removal. Yes, I do have hair on my upper lip which needs to be disposed off! I do not wish to look like a young boy going through puberty with a hairy upper lip, so I have resorted to waxing those pesky, ugly hairs away.

I have been using Veet Shea Butter and Berry Wax strips for approximately two years. Before that I used another Veet product. I have never been a huge fan of waxing as it does hurt. However, with upper lip hair (moustache!), there is not much choice. I found bleaching just left me with a hairy white upper lip, and shaving alongside ignoring it are not options.

Veet facial wax strips come in a small pink box and cost around £5.00. Inside the box you will find 20 wax strips and 4 sachets of perfect finish wipes. Depending on how hairy you are and how quickly your hair grows, the wax strips should last at least 3 months. So price wise they are very reasonable compared to a professional. Although the professional would probably do a better job.

The wax strips are each about 10cms by 5cms and look like pink gum stuck in-between two pieces of greaseproof paper. Firstly you need to warm the wax up by rubbing it between your hands for 5 seconds. Then peel the strips apart and place on upper lip (or other hairy area). Now the painful bit, hold the skin taunt, pull the strip off very quickly, making sure you are pulling against the direction of the hair growth. Take a deep breathe and move on to the next side. Finally, using one of the oily wipes, wipe of any excess wax. You should be moustache free!

Veet wax strips should be used on hair between 2mm and 5mm long. Also make sure that the area to be waxed is clean with no creams or grease, otherwise the wax does not stick.

I prefer to wax at night, as it does leave me with a red upper lip. It is advised to test the strips first before going ahead with a proper wax in case of an allergy. The four perfect finish wipes are very large and can be cut and saved in their sachet.

These wax strips are simple and quick to use. I do find them painful, but only for 5 seconds. It is the anticipation of pulling them off which makes the pain worse! They are cheap and effective, and get rid of those nasty hairs.

Summary: A quick and effective facial hair removal

I know someone who was left with weeping sores after using wax strips on her face, so it was enough to ever put me off using them!

I've got very fine blonde hairs on my upper lip and once decided to wax them but I had a bad reaction to the waxing and was left with weeping areas full of blisters for 2 weeks afterwards, so embarrassing and never again!!

I thought shaving with a razor was the only way to do this. Can't say I'd risk this method though. Thanks for an honest review.
