Advantages: cheap, easy to use, very effective
Disadvantages: stickier than some hot waxes
I've tried all types of depilation but there's no getting away from it - waxing is the only way for me. I also think I've tried all the waxing there is, so consider myself quite an authority on the subject. There's no getting away from the fact that, 9 times out of 10, a good professional waxing beats a home effort, for results. But, let's face it, not many of us can excuse that kind of expense on a regular basis. Besides, if you're going look like a fool and scream like a pansy, I don't know about you, but I'd rather do so in the privacy of my own home. So, why does Wax-A-Way get my vote? Well, I've tried single-use cold wax strips and ran out. I've tried hot wax, dribbled it all over the carpet, littered the house with reusable cotton strips hung out to dry (what a palava) and gone bankrupt in the process. Lastly, I've tried reusable wax that leaves wax on your legs and hand picks the hairs it fancies removing while leaving others. Now, I believe I have found the answer. Reusable Wax strips that are, to coin a phrase 'cheap as chips' (currently on offer for about £2.50 for 16) and that actually work. In fact, although it says there are 16 in the pack - I have found that there are usually 20, so I'm not sure if that is a printing or packing error. Either way, that's an extra waxing session! They are in fact so 'Reusable' that despite being a relatively hairy bas***d, even I only need 2 strips per leg! Yes, these wonders just go and go! The beauty of being reusable means that if you do leave a few behind you just keep going until they've surrendered. The results last as long as hot wax - so between two and six weeks depending how prolific you are. It's hereditory - so blame your mum. I can make a pack last about four or five goes and always stock up when they're on offer - so it
works out at about 50p a session. That's cheaper than having a go with sellotape. Me? no never! The strips can be used elsewhere about your person but I can't say the recommendation stretches to bikini. The jury is still out on that one! End result: Very smooth legs - almost perfect in fact, and the wax washes off fairly easily. Superdrug is currently running a 'third off' offer. Look for the bright yellow packaging. So cheap it has to be worth a try.

- 04/09/01 Over the years I must have numbed my legs and eyebrows because I can now watch telly and wax/pluck without really thinking about it. Although the ankles will always be a reality check! |

...b ut from what I hear about it, it really isn't a great loss! I mean - how painful is it for you anyway? My girlfriend relates that it's agony... |
