Advantages: Smooth clean and quick

Disadvantages: painful

I am writing this review as I need my eyebrows re-doing in the next few days and thought I would do a review on it as I have had it done a few times now.

I first decided to have my eyebrows waxed a few years ago when my work colleague told me she had had hers done. Before this I thought you could only have beautiful eyebrows through painful plucking.

I went to my local salon and made an appointment for the wax to be done.

The day arrived and I went in somewhat tentatively. I was asked to lie on the bed and the beautician stood at the end looking down on my head.

She asked me how much I wanted off and having fairly healthy eyebrows I asked her to go full throttle at them and tidy up the middle etc. This is where she started.

Having no experience o waxing I was scared and shut my eyes - I knew it would hurt but didn't know how bad it would be - like childbirth to a first time mum!! LOL

Anyway she smoothed some cleanser over the area to be waxed and then put what I would describe as two very small rulers, one either side of my nose. This was to make sure she did an even wax on the centre of my eyebrows.

Then she applied the hot wax to the middle section. It was actually a pleasant feeling as the wax was very warm although you could feel the stickiness of it straightaway as she was applying it. She then pressed on a small piece of cloth and firmed it over the wax.

RIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, that’s not "rest in peace" - it wasn't that bad but it was painful enough. I think I managed to keep a straight face.

She then did the same procedure on the area under my eyebrows, on the top lid almost. Bearing in mind I had never even plucked here as I am a baby and it hurts - this was really painful. She pulled the skin tight by the edge of the eye to minimise the pain but it was still a shock. It brought tears to me eyes and made me sneeze about 6 times. Embarrassing but she said it was normal!!

When she had finished the waxing she continued to tidy the actual eyebrow left with the tweezers. I absolutely hate this bit as plucking to me is like the worst beauty treatment ever invented. When she was happy with the shape she applied some aloe vera lotion to sooth the soreness, I thought this might sting but it felt cool and calming on my poor eyes.

She then put some pads soaked with some sort of liquid onto my eyes and told me to lay still for a few minutes to minimise swelling. This was quite pleasant too. Once she was done she showed me the finished look in a mirror and I have to say I was astounded.

My eyebrows were so neat and tidy, pretty and looked the best I had ever seen them. I was truly impressed.

The whole procedure had taken about 15 minutes.

Getting to the till I only had to cough up £6, which I thought was really reasonable. The eyebrows lasted about 6 weeks until they needed to be done again and I was told that over time if I waxed then regularly the hairs would eventually thin and not be so bushy anyway - resulting in easier waxing in future.

When I got home and looked in the mirror my eyes were very pink and a little swollen, but this dispersed after a couple of hours. They were also a little itchy and you will need to resist the temptation to scratch as the skin has been waxed and is obviously a little sore so scratching will make it hurt even more.

On a whole I am very impressed with the eyebrow wax and have continued to have it done for a few years now.

It's recommended and on a final note about waxing, I'm glad I'm not a man and need back, sack & crack!!!

xx

Summary: Wax Away - It's worth it.
