Advantages: Hair free for a few weeks
Disadvantages: Painful, hair grows back, needs doing regularly
I wanted to write this review so any women who are trying to get the courage to have a Brazilian wax can hear an honest opinion, and go for it!
After having 2 children my husband commented that my 'lady garden' could do with some serious maintenance work. Although I would have loved to argue with him that it was all ok down there, I had to be honest and admit that it was a little out of control!
For his birthday last year I was stuck for what to get him. Eventually my mind wandered back to his comments about my excess body hair and I booked in to my local beauty saloon to get a Brazilian wax.
For those who don't know, a Brazilian removes the hair from your pubic area from front to back, leaving just a strip down the middle. You could also have a Hollywood which removes all hair, but alas I am not brave enough for that!
I was completely unsure of what to expect when I arrived, I had tried waxing my legs at home once and it didn't work. I had all the pain of ripping off a top layer of skin, whilst none of the hair had budged!
When the beautician showed me to the treatment room I started to get a bit worried! She asked me to remove my trousers but leave my underwear on. I then laid down on the bed with my legs to the sides to give her full access. She asked me to move my knickers to one side and applied some very warm feeling wax, on goes the waxing strip...oh no, no turning back now! I was asked to pull my skin taut and off comes the strip. I will not lie with was incredibly painful. I have been through child birth so I can get through this I thought.
A few more applications of wax and then onto the other side for the same treatment, then a bit off the top! I am sure you can ask them to stop at any point, but who wants just one patch with no hair! Be warned that there are some awkward leg lifts involved so the rear area can be reached, but with knickers still on you can leave with your dignity in tact! The next part of the treatment is pulling any stray hairs with tweezers, again this is a little painful but not as bad as the waxing! The last bit is some lotion which feels amazing after all that pain! It takes about 15 to 20 minutes in all and leaves you hair free for 2 to 3 weeks.
My beautician is great and chats away the whole time so you don't concentrate too much on the pain. She did tell me some people literally scream every time they go, so she thinks I have a high pain threshold, but I can tell you I am a wimp!
Yes it is painful but only in short sharp bursts then it is just a bit uncomfortable for a few hours. It does sometimes bleed a little bit, this is normal, but not huge gushing amounts! You are advised not to use any perfumed products for 24 hours on that area but you can use Savlon if you want to slightly cool and calm the area. I have been back to have this done again and am waiting for my next appointment, so it can't be that bad if I keep going back! The results are a lovely hair-free smooth 'lady garden' which you can be proud to show to your partner!
Summary: Just think the pain is not gonna last long and it looks great when it's done!
