Advantages: Feels great, looks great

Disadvantages: Hurts

Still thinking about getting waxed, chaps? Well, formerly, I was quite hairy. Full chest and back, lots on the legs and backside and pubes-a-plenty. Not exactly like some of the gorillas I see walking around town (this is a holiday area and people dress accordingly, even if they really shouldn't!). So now, apart from armpits and forearms, I've had the lot done. Yep, shiny from top to bottom.
Why would anyone do that? My initial reasons were to get an even tan. I live in the Canaries and have a private roof terrace so I don't have to worry about 'white stripe'. But you don't tan so well through hair.
I tried shaving (an evil option that leaves you all spiky and prone to developing nasty spots and lumps), and I tried creams - they are rather unpleasant concoctions that give the impression that they will strip flesh to the bone if left on too long. And the hair grows back like shaving within two or three days. So, I walked around the local town and found a hairdresser who did waxing.
She's very nice and cool about it and has a small number of male clients. The torture chamber is a little masseur's bed in a curtained corner of the tiny shop and it's 10 euros for a back or a chest and 28 euros for both legs and groin. I do the meat and veg myself. She's not trained for it and doesn't offer the service. After the hairdresser is finished waxing, there isn't a lot left to do anyway. So, that's 48 euros every six weeks. That's the least painful bit. You do reach a point with a first chest wax where you feel you just can't go on but heck, you're a man, of course you can see it through. I don't get it all done the same day and I really wouldn't recommend it. It takes three sessions to see me done.
Afterwards, you really need to wear something light and loose. Chest is the worst I find and you will be sore for a couple of hours when you first get done and the waxed area will be slightly numb for a few days. This gets better after more sessions. It's the first one that is the problem, and that's the one you're thinking of, right?
So, why the hell do it?
Yeah, I get the tan, but I get loads of other stuff too. Sex. Yep, that's way better. Skin to skin can't be beaten, especially with nice oil. You won't feel like it for a few days after a wax though, but be patient, it's worth the wait. My wife loves it.
But there's other things. I now feel the clothes I wear and I like it. I actually enjoy having a shower and washing just to feel how smooth everything is. Massages are so much less uncomfortable especially when running against the grain on the legs (which is the best way). Swimming is great too, particularly if you can go naked. I'm cooler in the heat and cleaner too. No klingons either.
I now look at other guys and wonder if they are naturally smooth or 'done'. It's a bit embarrassing, but it's also obvious especially among the locals that there's more of us out there than you think.
Disadvantages: you have to do it every six weeks to maintain it, it does hurt, you can't stop stroking your legs/chest/whatever a few days after it's done, your male friends will think you're mad or stupid or both, some men think I'm gay, you have to start thinking about skin care products in a whole new way.
I'm married, so I'm not looking at other women, but it's clear that a lot of women like a smooth man these days. My hairdresser is deeply impressed that I don't even wince, let alone yelp. I wonder what the other guys do.
If you do try it, give it a little time to get used to the sensations, and enjoy them. It won't make you gay, honest, unless that's what you want. And you can always grow it back.
Regrets? Only that I didn't do it sooner.

Summary: Not for the faint-hearted but be brave and reap the rewards
