Advantages: none
Disadvantages: pain
At first glance you may wonder just what I have to say about waxing; I am not a woman, but I have been waxed on numerous occasions! Despite the deficit on my head, I am a hairy man. I get it from my mum. I don't mind being hairy, but I draw the line at a hairy back, and have tried many methods of getting rid of the nasty mound of hair that grows there.
First up, waxing. I have tried home kits and a professional, and all I can say is "OW!" The basic principle is to apply hot wax onto the area, which acts like a glue. Next, a piece of paper mysteriously like a sanitary towel is placed on. It 'glues' to the hair covered by the wax. A quick 'rip' will bring the wax and hair off in one go - or so it should be.
First off, the hot wax going on causes some pain in itself. The lollipop stick used to slather it on tangles in the hairs and pulls them taut in a wonderful pre-emptive warning at what is to come. Now I'm sorry, but anything that hurts just in the prep is not good.
Next up, the pantyliner is applied. This is quite nice and cooling, but you know it has to come off. Next, it has to be ripped off. It's important to do it quickly, but just as important to warn the person when it's about to happen, else it can really take your breath away.
Now, it hurts. Like 10/10 pain, and that was just my back. Those of you who have your bikini line done - well done!
Not only does it hurt, it doesn't get all the hair off, so it has to be re-done a few times in each spot. On top of this, eventual regrowth often includes ingrowing hairs, which are a real pain.
I have to say that I would recommend using Veet cream over this - yeah it burns a bit, but this just kills, has to be re-done a few times, and causes ingrowing hairs.
Summary: no no no
