Great chemical-free natural toothpaste (Weleda Calendula Toothpaste)

Advantages: Lack of harmful chemicals

Disadvantages: Strong taste, could do with larger sizes

I was keen to source a toothpaste product made from natural substances after reading a disturbing article on what might be hidden in the average tube of toothpaste. As toothpaste is officially not designed for digestion, it is possible for manufacturers to include harmful chemicals to give it colour, texture and flavour.

Fortunately, Weleda's range of toothpastes do not include such chemical nasties. The Calendula flavour has also been specifically developed without peppermint so that it is suitable for homeopathic medicine users. It is even suitable for vegans.

I would have to say that the flavour of the toothpaste is very strong. So avoid at all costs if you are not a fan of fennel or aniseed. There are other toothpaste flavours in the range that are more subtle. I personally tend to vary the flavours every time I need to buy a new tube. My only gripe would be that it should come in a larger size, as I do tend to go through a tube quite quickly. I have been using Weleda toothpastes for about 5 years now, and I haven't looked back.
