I was in my local (independent) pharmacy recently and had a bit of a look around the store while I waited on my prescription being made up. I noticed the pack of 'Wilkinson Sword Extra 2 Beauty' razors. As I knew I only had a couple of disposable razors left at home, I decided to buy them.
The package contains five disposable razors, and each has a twin blade design. I paid around £1.50 for the pack, although this price was marked as being a special offer.
Having just finished the pack, I can honestly say that I wouldn't buy this razor again unless I had absolutely no choice in the matter, and in actual fact my experience of using these razors has kind of put me off from buying another razor from the 'Wilkinson Sword' brand altogether, such was my disappointment in this product!
To start with, I should point out that the head on the razor is quite small when compared to my usual brand, so much so that I find it takes me a longer time to shave. I feel that the small head doesn't 'catch' as many hairs as it should, which results in me having to shave the same area of skin at least twice before I am satisfied that it is stubble free!
In respect of additional features, these razors boast several. The first is that the handle is marketed as being 'easy grip', which to be fair I would agree with. The white and pink coloured handle has a kind of 'curved' shape to it which I can only assume is designed to make it easier to use, particularly with wet hands. The pink part - which is the outside - of the curved handle has a rubbery feel to it, and across said rubber are lots of little rubbery 'dots' which do contribute to the razor being easily manoeuvred across the skin, particularly if I am using it in the bath.
The next most obvious feature, to me at least, is the Aloe Vera 'strip' which lies across the length of the razor blade, and is directly above the blade. I do not honestly find that this strip makes the slightest bit of difference to me, in terms of avoiding nicks and cuts, or in terms of sensitivity to my skin after shaving. I think therefore that this is a bit of a cheeky marketing ploy adopted by the manufacturers to dupe us ladies into thinking that this product will perform slightly better, or perform with less pain at the very least, and neither of these has been the case for me personally.
Furthermore, I find that the Aloe Vera strip turns a bit soggy after I have used the razor - even after a single use - in either the bath or shower, and the appearance of the strip has definitely paled in colour and has a slightly 'lumpy' look to the texture. I feel that this deems it almost useless and again, I feel that this is just an 'add-on' feature that has been designed to make us think these razors are better than they actually are.
The next most obvious feature to this razor is the little plastic flap or 'button' that lies directly above the plastic housing which holds the razor blade. This feature escaped me completely for the first couple of times I used these razors. I was actually half way through the packet before I noticed the little diagram on the packaging, alerting me to this button. The button itself is so small that I didn't notice it!
The purpose of the little plastic button is that it can be pushed, and this design allows the two (very small) blades on the lady razor to be separated. This may sound pointless, and for my own personal shaving needs, it is slightly, but I can appreciate how the manufacturers thought this would be a good idea. The point to the blades separating is to allow for the removal of any 'build up' that has accumulated there, which I would assume is either a build up of hair (eww) or a build up of shaving gel or other products. As I generally discard a disposable razor after two uses or so, I tend to find that my razors don't have too much of a 'build-up' on them but I can appreciate that this may appeal to some consumers more than others.
The overall results I achieved from these lady razors was very disappointing and I wouldn't buy them again. I found that they performed much worse than other brands I have bought in the past - and I AM including very basic and 'value' brands in this statement - and therefore I felt that this offering from Wilkinson Sword was a complete waste of time and money.
I would only give them one measly Dooyoo star, and even then this award is grudged! Take my advice and buy an alternative product and give these razors a miss! If you DO decide to buy these, I have seen them for sale in both drugstores and supermarkets, and the pack costs around £1.80, on average.
Summary: A complete waste of time and money... buy something else instead!
