Advantages: Stops you looking like a wild beast, Doesn't rip your skin to pieces
Disadvantages: The chunkiness can make it clumsy for fiddly areas such as armpits
I got the Lady Protector + (I can't find its own category so I'm copying jessyclown and putting my opinion here!) after removing most of my knees with ordinary razors. I was going to get the men's equivalent (the Protector 3D) but I succumbed to cunning advertising ploys and truly and honestly believed for a razor to shave my legs successfully it needed to be a pretty lilac colour. Okay, seriously, it was on special offer, £1.99 for a "trial razor", with 2 blades. I was impressed at first though, the blades being wire wrapped stops you taking big chunks out like I was accustomed to, it doesn't stop little tiny nicks but it does work. The handle was comfortable to hold because it was so chunky and the rubbery bits gave you something to grip! Afterward my legs felt smooth and hairless and I looked like a lay-dee!!! But, to be honest (and to probably disgust some of you) I can get a bit lazy and leave my legs to return to their natural state for a few days, as shaving every day when you're not showing them to anyone and the only people who know they're getting a bit prickly are you and your jeans, seems a bit of a chore. Any more than just a couple of days of stubble (ie when it's becoming fluffy hair rather than just stubble) does clog it up pretty quickly because of the wire around the blades, so you have to keep stopping to rinse it out. That wouldn't be a problem if you shave regularly of course! Although the chunky handle makes shaving your legs easier, to be honest I find it a bit too big and clumsy for armpits. Maybe I have particularly fiddly armpits, but I found using an ordinary sized razor (even a disposable) easier. The flexibility of the Lady Protector + is supposed to make shaving areas like that easier, but I've found that using the men's Protector 3D- which I bought rather than buying replacement blades for this (okay, it's not as pretty, but mines a classy silvery colo
ur, and I find it quite comfortable to hold, even if the handle is thinner and heavier, but I'll write a separate opinion on that soon!) makes the fiddly corners easier- it's smaller and the blade seems to stand proud of the handle more, unlike the Lady Protector + on which the handle part seems to "surround" the blade part more. The chunkiness makes it good for legs, but you might find another razor better for your armpits. Or maybe my armpits are just a strange shape!! You can buy it with a storage thing that "sucks" to the shower wall, I didn't get one (I got a "trial pack"- but I did get £1 off my next purchase of blades, which would make it cheap, but at normal price they work out dearer than the men's equivalent) but being a stoodent and having to share a bathroom I wouldn't use it anyway as a flatmate's boyfriend staying the night and forgetting his razor might nick it! On how long the shave lasts, I can't say it's significantly longer than any other razor, I don't know if it claims to last for ages, it certainly didn't say it on the pack when I bought it, the emphasis seemed to be on not ripping your knees off, which is what attracted me to it. The blades last an average amount of time too, I tended to change mine every 1-2 weeks over the summer, when I was shaving more or less every day. I can't say that they lasted any longer than any other blade or disposable razor, and the Aloe-Vera (I think that's whats it is!) strip that supposedly soothes your skin doesn't last all that long, but I'm not sure if it makes that much of a difference- I still smothered my legs in moisturiser afterwards to say sorry for dragging a nasty piece of sharp metal all over them!!! So, while I would recommend this razor, I think the men's is just as good. It depends how bothered you are about it being a pretty colour I suppose. While we're on the subject, I b
et men are relieved they don't have to shave half their bodies!! Not that I'm saying men have it easy; facial skin is sensitive so you do have my sympathy (and a recommendation to find yourself a good moisturiser!!)

- 05/03/02 I haven't bought a proper razor yet and am still using disposable Bics - naughty I know but hey, I'm skint and Bics are a lot cheaper!!
Think I'm going to fork out for an epilator as I think it might be a good investment, if a little painful! |
