Avon Clearskin Blemish Clearing Astringent
by alyson29 I am extremely disciplined when it comes to skin care, particularly as I suffered with problems during my teens. As a result, I have followed a strict beauty regime for the past thirty years where I will cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and night. Despite having a number of favourite products I am always open to trying something ... new especially as skin care brands are continuously developing new ideas. Consequently, whilst browsing through an Avon brochure a couple of months ago my attention was drawn to their Clearskin Blemish Clearing range and this review discusses my experience with using their Daily Astringent. I was eager to try out this product, particularly as there are very few astringents on the market with my favourite from my teenage years being Clearasil, which I believe was discontinued many years ago. We are provided with 125ml of product, which is presented in a tall and sleek looking transparent plastic bottle, which gives an overall impression of clean and fresh. It was only when I received my purchase from my Avon representative that I realised that the astringent contains salicylic acid; an ingredient which has caused me problems in the past. Whilst I would describe my skin type as T-zone where I suffer with oily areas on my forehead and nose with dry patches on my cheeks, previous experiences of products containing this acid have caused a burning sensation as well as discomfort to my skin. However, as my experiences are from several years ago, I presumed that skin care technology had moved on and that the product would not be as harsh as those that I've previously tried. Furthermore, the claim that daily use of the astringent would reduce any excess oils was very tempting and I decided to go ahead and try it out. As with the majority of Avon products that I've used, the reverse of the bottle is cluttered with the tiniest of text, which is rather difficult to read. The English directions for use consist of just three lines where we are advised to use on a daily basis and in doing so the skin will be clean, refreshed and refined. Although I was apprehensive about applying salicylic acid to my skin, I felt somewhat assured that the astringent would not cause me any issues, particularly as Avon claim that it will not cause "over-drying". The bottle offers a flip top lid, which is firmly attached by a sturdy hinge, so there are no concerns that it could detach itself over a period of time. The lid is easily flipped open and securely closed with the product being dispensed via the small aperture. I squirted out a small amount of the watery pale lilac astringent onto a cotton wool ball and began applying to my skin using an upwards motion whilst ensuring that I did not make contact with my eyes or lips. Despite the aroma being clean and fresh it is rather chemical, which is something that I find a little unfavourable. Application is quick and easy with the liquid being very cooling when making contact with my skin and the only areas that offered a slight burning sensation were my cheeks due to the dryness that I suffer. Surprisingly, I have suffered with no tightness, which is generally the case with astringent cleansers. On checking the used white cotton wool balls I was able to witness traces of dirt and grime, which surprised me, particularly as I was of the opinion that I had thoroughly washed my face beforehand. Consequently, I continued to apply the astringent until the cotton wool balls showed no traces of grease and grime. I felt assured that the product was highly effective at removing any excess dirt and oil from my skin, but due to the slight burning sensation, which was followed by mild redness, I decided to use the product at night time. As I use a toning product directly afterwards, the slight burn is instantly relieved after which I complete by skin care routine with an application of moisturising cream. However, I cannot admit to suffering with the slight burning sensation during each use, particularly as I have been using more moisturising cream than normal due to the cold weather. Despite the fact that I no longer suffer with major breakouts of spots other than the odd one that appears now and again, my skin is prone to blackheads, particularly beneath my nose where I have a few enlarged pores. I feel assured that the astringent is ridding my skin of any dirt in addition to preventing blockage of the pores. My previous experiences with astringents containing salicylic acid is that they were stripping my skin of too much oil, which would subsequently result in the skin naturally producing more. I cannot admit to suffering with any additional dryness than normal although I would not recommend using this product without applying a moisturiser afterwards. In addition, I would not recommend the astringent be used by those consumers who suffer with dry skin. I have approximately a quarter of the 200ml bottle remaining, which will no doubt last me a further three weeks. Whilst I am finding the astringent to be extremely effective at keeping my skin squeaky clean and free of any unwanted grease and grime, I am undecided whether I will make a further purchase, as my normal choice of cleansers is those from Liz Earle, which are very effective as well as being very gentle on the skin. If you are interested in purchasing Avon Clear Skin Blemish Clearing Astringent it is currently available for £2 with its normal price being £4. I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading. Read the complete review |

Avon Clearskin Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub
by carcraig I like to use an exfoliating face wash of some sort 2-3 times a week and when this one was on special offer in the Avon catalogue, I thought it would give it a try. **Packaging** It has a flip-top lid which I find so much easier to use with wet hands, particularly while in the shower. Squeeze the plastic tube and ... you can ensure you use last drop of this product. The white and green colourway of the packaging suggests to me a more medicated-type face wash than cosmetic, but not overly so. **Use** Apply to a damp face, avoiding the eyes. More is less, only a small amount of product is required - a little goes a long way! **Product Appearance** Sage green in colour which hints at the menthol properties. **Texture/"Scrubinicity"** I like an exfoliator to feel like it is actually sloughing off those dead skin cells (yuck!), somewhere south of sandpaper but something that does feel like it is actually doing something "scrubby" to my skin and not just washing it. This product has the texture of gritty clay, thick enough to be easily applied to the face and neck without dripping off your fingers and going straight down the plughole, but so thick as to resemble a face-mask. The scrubbing particles are like fine sand and, for me, give just the right amount of exfoliation. If you like something VERY gentle, then this is probably not for you. **Scent etc** This scrub has a minty menthol aroma and almost gives the impression of heating up on the face in a weird thermal-sensation type way and it definitely feels like it is penetrating those sinuses - ideal when you have a bit of nasal congestion and by no means unpleasant. **Effects on Skin** Positive! Helps keep my skin bright and clear and feeling super-cleansed. I don't suffer from breakouts and I look 20 years younger than I actually am (joke!) **Availability and Price** I think I paid £3 from Avon but it doesn't seem to be in their current catalogue. On Amazon it is currently available for £5.99 with free delivery. Recommended. Five stars from me. Read the complete review |

Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive Oil Hydrating Face Mask
by alyson29 I've always taken very good care of my skin and have enjoyed using face masks, which enable me to relax and chill out. I generally tend to opt for Montagne Jeunesse products, particularly as they offer a huge variety and I like to alternate with the products that I use. Whilst browsing through an Avon brochure a couple of months ago my ... eyes were drawn to a hydrating face mask belonging to the Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive Oil range. I decided to make a purchase with this review discussing my experience with using it. We are provided with 75 ml of mask, which is contained within an olive green sturdy plastic tube. Whilst the appearance of the front of the packaging is calming and tranquil, the reverse is covered in the tiniest of text where we are presented with directions of how to use the product together with its ingredients in a multitude of languages. Avon is notorious for cluttering their product packaging and using text, which is far too small and I find this extremely frustrating. Whilst I have a strict beauty regime of cleanse, tone and moisturise, which keeps my T-zone skin in a healthy and clean condition, I favour using a more deep cleansing and nourishing product on a weekly basis, particularly as they are effective at removing deeply buried grease and grime. Whilst my skin is T-zone where I suffer with an oily forehead and nose, my cheeks can become rather dry especially along the cheek bone, so it is essential that the face masks I choose are not drying. One of the deciding factors for this Avon purchase is that due to the olive oil content, the claim is that the product will hydrate my skin. The flip top lid is easily opened and firmly closed due to its robust plastic hinge with the off-white coloured mask being effortlessly dispensed from the tube where I required only a small blob approximately the size of a 50p piece. I must admit that I was surprised at its creamy gel like appearance as opposed to the clay style that I had been anticipating. Its consistency can be described as is in between that of a lotion and cream and it felt velvety smooth to the touch as I effortlessly applied and spread a thin layer over the surface of my just cleansed skin. I found the fragrance extremely favourable with its delicate floral tones and it offered a wonderfully refreshing and comforting sensation to my skin. It is recommended that the mask be left on the skin for up to twenty minutes although I didn't want to remove it, particularly as I found the aroma so very relaxing. Unlike other masks that I generally use, this product doesn't dry, so removal is effortless where I use a few pieces of cotton wool and gently sweep it away from my skin. As recommended, I rinse away with the remainder with some warm water with the entire removal process taking just a couple of minutes with absolutely no mess, so there's no wash hand basin to clean afterwards, which is nearly always the case when I use Montagne Jeunesse. It wasn't until I began using the mask that I realised that it is not intended for cleansing the skin as it is solely for moisturising. However, this did not bother me in the slightest, particularly as following its removal, I was amazed at the texture of the surface of my skin, which was velvety soft and smooth due to the glycerine content. I have never experienced such an effect from other brands despite some of them also containing glycerine and was delighted at the high level of softness to my skin. In terms of moisturising properties, my skin was fresh as well as feeling fully hydrated and I felt assured that any lost moisture due to the cold weather, had been replenished. Whilst the velvety texture was short lived with it being apparent for only a couple of hours, my skin continued to feel fully moisturised as well as offering a healthy and radiant appearance. Despite the mask being highly beneficial for dry areas, it did not exacerbate the oily sections of my face, which was something that concerned me a little when I was carrying out the first application. This is an absolutely gorgeous face mask, which is also suitable for sensitive skin and whilst it did not offer cleansing properties I thoroughly enjoyed using it. I anticipate that the 75 ml tube would offer around thirty applications, which is excellent value for money when making a comparison with other brands. However, I will still continue to use my favourite Montagne Jeunesse products, particularly as they deep cleanse my pores. The mask should be used within 12 months of opening and whilst I use cleansing masks on a weekly basis, I have been using this product twice a week for a hydration boost to my skin. At the time of writing the mask can be purchased singularly from Avon for £4.50 or you can choose two select products from the Mediterranean Spa range for just £5, so now's the time to stock up. I feel a five star rating is appropriate together with a huge recommendation. Read the complete review |
