E45 Lotion
by DLTAG89
Almost 15 years ago my mum introduced me to E45 cream and I still thank her to this day.
I have terrible skin, it's so sensitive, very dry and often gets very itchy. This started when I was very small but at the age of about 9 my mum gave me a bottle of E45 and said when I'm itchy I need to put this on and I've never looked ... back.
For the past 15 years I've been using E45 and have never had any problems. Any itchiness or dryness I get, I plaster a load of E45 on and within 10 minutes it's calmed down.
The cream itself if white in colour and I would say it's quite watery for a moisturiser but this works for me. It's not at all sticky when applied and my skin always absorbs it lovely. I find it doesn't really have a smell to it but maybe a slight baby lotion sent.
Another added bonus for me is that it can be used on my boys sensitive skin and it always helps calm their eczema down as they both suffer quite badly and they also have never had an problems with this cream.
It's not too expensive at about £5.50 for 500ml but I always make sure I stock up when it's on offer (usually boots or superdrug do the best offers). I find a 500ml bottle will last me and my 2 boys a good few months and we are very heavy users so it's really great value. The expiration date is very long too (not that ours ever reach them) but they last a good few years before going off (a bottle I bought 3 months ago has an expiration date till 02/2015)
Is so great on my sensitive skin but might not be on others. It's also perfume free but here is a list of ingredients in case there's any hidden nasty's.
Aqua, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Paraffinum Liquidum, Glyceryl Stearate, Ceteth-20, Hypoallergenic Anhydrous Lanolin (MedilanR), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Propylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide, BHT
I have used many different moisturiser in the past and have always gone back to using E45, it's so simple and really does what it says on the tin, 5 stars from me. Read the complete review |

E45 Lotion
by lorrainek858
My skin has recently needed a little bit of TLC, it has become quite dry and feels a bit itchy. I find that usually it acts up in colder weather, but I am also prone to dry skin when I have used a very strongly perfumed shower gel or something that my sensitive skin does not like.
I decided to pick this moisturiser because E45 is a ... really well known name and it is good to use on sensitive skin because it is dermatological, perfume free and hypoallergenic. I decided that I would use this moisturiser to give my skin a little bit of a break from the harsher, smellier things I usually use on my skin.
Application
This moisturiser is quite runny, it absorbs really quickly into my skin and it doesn't really take a lot of it in each application. I find sometimes I use a little too much and my skin can look shiny, but eventually it sinks into my skin and I find it doesn't take too long before it is completely absorbed. There isn't really a greasy feeling that comes from this, which is great as I dont have to wait ages to get changed again after applying it. For my whole body it takes a good sized dollop on my fingertips, however a 200ml bottle seems to last me about 6 weeks, using it almost every day.
What I Thought
After using this moisturiser for a few months, I have found that my skin is much less prone to dryness, it looks much softer and feels way more smooth than usual. I have no problems whatsoever with the performance of this moisturiser, my skin is in great shape since I started using it.
However, it is a little bit blah and I have grown quite bored of it, there isn't really any scent or touch of luxury about this moisturiser and it would be nice to have a strawberry scented or coconut scented one. I know this takes away the point of this product, as it is perfume free so then it can be used by the whole family, but I do miss my smellier products like the Boots Natural Collection Body Cream.
Price and Availability
I bought my 200ml bottle of E45 moisturiser for around £1 in Home Bargains. I think that this was quite a good deal and I would definitely recommend it.
Overall
I think that this is one of them necessary items to keep in your beauty box if you have dry skin. It may be boring, but it definitely does the job and is good value for money. Overall I would give this 4 out of 5 stars.

E45 Cream
by thehonesttruth
My boyfriend has Eczema, so one of the products we always have in our house is E45, a specially formulated emollient cream made by Crookes Healthcare Limited. As well as being useful for soothing eczema flare ups, this cream is actually pretty multi-purpose and can also be used for cooling sunburned skin, and for moisturizing dry and ... flaky skin.
Whilst I don't have eczema myself, I have in the last year developed a tendency towards hives and prickly heat rashes after an allergic reaction to a medication. This leaves me with skin that is red, hot and itcy, covered in dozens of little red or white bumps, and slightly swollen. It's horrible, uncomfortable, and unsightly - and it can happen for almost no reason. During a flare up, my overwhelming urge is to scratch, but what I try to do first is use a cream to try and cool it down and make it less uncomfortable.
I apply this liberally to my skin. Now, If I'm not going out anywhere any time soon, I really do apply this very quickly, rub it in only gently, and then leave a thin layer on my skin so I look all grey. Not only does it moisturise and cool my skin very quickly, but I also find leaving a layer on my skin keeps it cool for longer, and also makes my skin a little slippery so that my attempts to scratch prove fruitless and don't lead to me breaking the skin. If I do have to go out, I spend time blending this in - it does take a while, being quite a thick cream, and occasionally leaves me a little impatient.
Whilst this does moisturise and cool the skin, I don't feel it helps me with the itchiness at all, which is, if I'm honest, the most annoying bit of a flare up. It also doesn't really do anything to reduce the inflammation or visible redness. With that said, I've yet to find anything non prescription that does.
Would I recommend E45 - well, I think it is absolutely excellent as a moisturiser for sensitive skin, and my boyfriend really rates it for his eczema. However, although it helps with some of the problems I have during skin flare ups, it just doesn't help with the actual irritation itself.
Three stars - a quality product that really works for some people, but sadly not for me. Read the complete review |
