Figs & Rouge 100% Organic Aloe & Mint Balm
by europe-chick
I absloutely adore the Figs and Rouge balms range. All of their products are 100% pure, 100% organic and 100% natural. All of their products are also made in the UK. They retail at £4.99 each, and I've bought all of mine from Urban Outfitters. I've been really impressed with the range and I can highly recommend it.
Figs and ... Rouge do a number of different balms;
Aloe & Mint (soothing and protecting),
Rambling Rose (moisturising and protecting),
Sweet Geranium (conditioning and hydrating),
Peppermint & Tea Tree (soothing with anti-bacterial agents),
Pomegranate (nourishing and moisturising),
Wild Cherry (silky smooth lips!),
and Coco Vanilla (delicious and indulgent).
The Figs and Rouge balms all come in little tins, a bit like tins of Vaseline, and all of the tins are actually very retro inspired, they are all very beautifully designed and look lovely either in your handbag or on your dressing table. The Aloe & Mint balm is contained in a beautifully retro designed tin in various shades of greens (it's a little bit of a 70's design I would say), and the lid flips off just like a tin of Vaseline to get to the balm. Here's where the similarity with Vaseline ends. The Figs and Rouge balms are much more solid and waxy balms, as they don't contain any petroleum like Vaseline does. The Aloe & Mint balm is a clear balm, there's no colour in it.
The Aloe & Mint balm has a gorgeous fresh and uplifting fragrance, I can smell the mint in this much more than the aloe vera, you can definitely detect the aloe vera fragrance though, it's just not as prominent as the mint. The gorgeous fresh minty scent lingers on your skin for quite some time after you've applied the balm.
The balms are advertised as lip, hand, face and body balms, and I would say that this is accurate as I've used the balms in a number of ways so far, and have been really impressed with them.
I've used this balm on my slightly pink sunburnt nose a few weekends ago, and it really soothed and healed my pink skin.
I've used it as a lip balm either alone or under lip gloss or lipstick, it is not greasy at all it just glides over my lips leaving them soft and smooth. It just leaves a gleam rather than a shine like some other lip balms, it's not sticky and gloopy at all. It really soothes and protects dry and chapped lips, and feels intensely moisturising and healing as you rub it in.
I've also used it on dry patches on my face overnight and found that they'd vanished by the morning. I've rubbed it into other dry patches on my skin and again found that it really soothes and heals them. It does actually feel really calming, soothing and nourishing as soon as you rub it into your skin.
I've rubbed it into the backs of my hand and it really seems to improve the texture of my hands.
The balm is really easily absorbed, wherever you choose to use it, it's really soothing and nourishing, and it really does protect your skin.
I always have one of the Figs and Rouge balms permanently in my handbag, and on my dressing table now to use throughout the day. Although they are only small tins of balm, at 17ml, a little bit of this really does go a long way. I do find that less is more with these, and a very small amount of the balm really does work best. The Coco Vanilla balm has a lovely sweet and delicious chocolatey vanilla fragrance, it smells just like a bar of choolate flavoured with vanilla, it smells good enough to eat! The divine sweet scent lingers on your skin for quite some time after you've applied it, it makes me want to lick my lips or my skin, wherever I've applied it!

Figs & Rouge Coco Vanilla Balm 17m
by katyj10
This is a review of Figs & Rouge Coco Vanilla balm for lips, face and body. You may (or may not) recall that I did a review of the Cherry and Vanilla balm from the same range recently. Well I liked it so much that I went out and bought this tin too!
What is it?
The beauty balm is something I would mainly use on ... lips, but it can also be used as an intensive treatment for other dry skin areas like elbows and heels or dry patches you may get. I also think it is good on cuticles if you use a lot of nail products as it can dry out the nail bed.
Packaging
Whilst I love the product, the packaging is also a big draw for me with the Figs & Rouge line. The Coco Vanilla is a larger sized tin (17m) than my Cherry and Vanilla tin. This tin came with a shrink wrap to seal the tin so no excess packaging here! The tin is a great size, it fits in the palm of your hand so ideal for pockets, purses or handbags. The tin is slightly hourglass shaped with a big lip on the lid so it is easy to prize open but will not fall open on its own in your bag or pocket.
In Use
I was not disappointed with the Coco Vanilla flavour. You can pick up a small amount on your finger to smooth on the area you wish to treat, for me mainly the lips. It feels slightly grainy when you pick it up but on contact it melts smoothly into the skin. A little bit goes a long way and there is no flavour to it to taste but the scent is beautiful, like a vanilla pudding or custard!
My thoughts
I love using this product and now I have two tins I keep one in my bedside drawer and one downstairs on the computer desk. I can feel yet another purchase or two coming on as I'd like one for the car and one for my handbag. Each application uses so little the tin will last months and months, even with daily use. It is more expensive than other lip balms like Vaseline (which I also use) but I feel the quality surpasses other products and it is 100% organic so no nasty ingredients in there.
Price and availability
The 17ml pots are available online and from Boots and are all priced £4.99 and currently are in a 3 for 2 offer in association with 'top to toe summer products' so now is the best ever time to buy with points included too! I don't think owning two pots is enough so I think I will take advantage of this offer very soon.
Final word
The back of the tin promises this product to be 'delicious and indulgent' and I have to agree. There are other products in the range which I am sure I will get around to trying including pomegranate,; wild cherry with sweet orange and aloe and mint (probably this one next!). I have been so impressed with the two that I own so far. I can't even pick a favourite between the two I have got as they are both so good. I think that a tin of this balm is a must have item for every female and don't be surprised if your fellow has a try of it too! Read the complete review |
