Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic
by sparkle1004
My skin is not in an awful condition but as I wear a lot of make up and have an oily complexion, I can tend to get a dreaded blemish now and again. This isn't the end of the world and sometimes I am the only one who notices but it still makes me panic. I decided to give the Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask by Lush a go which promises to ... stop me from making a mountain out of a mole hill.
What does the product do?
The product is essentially a facial mask packed full of natural ingredients which promises to leave your skin soft, clear and hydrated. It claims that it will deeply cleanse the skin to prevent blemishes leaving you with a clear and radiant complexion. It contains Irish Moss to soften the skin and it is packed full of blueberries to nourish and protect the skin. Almond oil is included to hydrate the skin and to leave supple while chamomile calms and soothes the skin. Orange oil helps to tone the skin and glycerin hydrates the skin and then allows the skin to hold onto the moisture.
How do you use the product?
You need to cleanse the skin before you use the product so that the ingredients can really get to work on your face. You need to smooth a generous amount over your whole face, avoiding the eye and mouth area, and then leave the mask to get to work for ten minutes. You shouldn't let the mask dry completely and once the time is up you can rinse away the product and remove the excess with a damp flannel. You can then follow it up with a good moisturiser.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within the standard Lush black plastic packaging which has a little writing about the product on the label. It has an open mouth and the lid can be pulled on and off. Due to the packaging it is easy to control exactly how much of the product you want to use so none will go to waste. It will cost you around £6 for 75 grams of this mask and it can be bought from your local Lush store and also from their online website.
Aroma and Appearance
The aroma of this product is gorgeous and you can detect a lot of the ingredients within the mask. The main aroma is that of the blueberries and it is fruity and sweet but you can also smell a touch the orange oil and the calming chamomile. It is relaxing and enjoyable which is a good job as you can smell it strongly the whole time that your product is on your face. The product looks purple/blue in the pot and you can see lots of bits in there. When on the face the colour appears more grey.
Application and Performance
The mask comes in the form of a thick paste. It is easy to scoop from the jar but it is a little difficult to spread on the face. It sticks well but it doesn't glide over the skin and I've found it easily to spread it on a little bit at a time so it is quite time consuming to apply the mask. You can feel the bits in the mask as you rub it on and while it doesn't hurt or irritate my skin, it's not as smooth to apply as other facial masks that I've tried. Once the product is on, you can't really feel it doing anything. You can smell the lovely aroma strongly but it doesn't tingle or sting on the skin and it is completely comfortable to wear. You do look silly while wearing the mask so you'll need to remember not to answer the front door!
After a while the mask starts to dry and crack and I found myself removing it before the full ten minutes as the instructions tell you not to let it dry. The product is fairly easy to remove with a flannel and it doesn't leave to much of a mess in the sink. Once it was off, I definitely felt like I need to use a moisturiser. It didn't leave my skin feeling very hydrated. It did a great job of cleansing my skin those and it feel really fresh and clean. My skin felt soft after use and after a few uses, I was still blemish free. As I said though I don't get blemishes all the time so I may not have got any even if I hadn't used it. It reduced the redness of my skin and it did feel soothed and refreshed. My skin also looked a bit brighter after use and my complexion looked healthier.
Conclusion
All in all, this is a lovely mask that is packed full of natural goodness. It made my skin soft and cleansed it deeply leaving my face feeling fresh. It smells delicious and has helped to keep my skin clear. This is not a life changing mask and it doesn't seem to do that much for my skin but it didn't cause any problems either. I want to see more results from a face mask so although it improved my complexion a bit, I probably wouldn't repurchase this one. Read the complete review |

Lush Dark Angels Cleanser
by musicdave
I have recently started to use more of Lush products after finding that they try to avoid using chemical ingredients and preservatives. After trying the herbalism cleanser and being very impressed with my clear skin I thought I would try something different. I looked in the Lush store and found the dark angels cleanser. Although it looks ... scary as it is just a jet black looking mud it is very effective and cleans my skin very well.
When I looked through the ingredients I was very impressed as there were no parabens which is the case with all of the Lush cleansers. There was one ingredient which I did not recognise which was the sodium lauroyl sarcosinate but after some research I discovered that this ingredient is derived for palm oil.
The dark angels cleanser is described as a cleanser and scrub combined and is recommended for people who really want to make sure that they have the cleanest skin possible.
The ingredients are
Rhassoul Mud, Organic Cold Pressed Avocado Oil, Glycerine, Powdered Charcoal, Black Sugar, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Perfume, *Linalool, Sandalwood Oil, Rosewood Oil
Each ingredient has a purpose. The rhassoul mud is good for cleansing the skin and degreasing. The avocado oil is used because it is full of fatty acids and vitamins, glycerine for its moisturising properties, powdered charcoal for its oil absorbing properties and black sugar to stimulate and exfoliate the skin. Sandalwood is a natural astringent and antiseptic and rosewood oil is a natural antiseptic and bactericidal.
I have found the cleanser very easy to use but because it is black and can sometimes get a bit messy it may be best to use it in the shower. Just place a very small amount of the cleanser in your hand, add a little bit of water and that's it. Rub it on your face and your face feels instantly clean. The sugar acts as an exfoliator which you can feel working. My skin feels very clean after I use it and it has a very nice fresh smell. I do have skin which can be prone to a few break outs but since I have started using Lush cleansers I have not had this problem. I did use the herbalism cleanser before this and it suited my skin well also.
A great cleanser which uses natural ingredients without any preservatives. Definitely worth a try as it is a great price for what you get. Read the complete review |

Lush Herbalism
by musicdave
If you want to clean your skin and not use any chemicals and preservatives at all then this if for you.
I wanted to find something to clean my skin that would not be harsh and did not contain any chemical ingredients and preservatives and after some searching I found the Lush sold cleaners. I visited a Lush store and ... explained that I had oily skin which the odd breakout and I was taken to the herbalism cleanser. I looked at the ingredients and straight away I knew what all of them were. There is nothing with a long name that cant be pronounced and even worse, something which you have no clue where it came from.
The herbalism cleanser has the following ingredients,
Ground Almonds, Kaolin, Glycerine, Chlorophyllin Water, Nettle, Rosemary and Rice Vinegar Extract, Rice Bran, Gardenia Extract, Rose Absolute, Chamomile Blue Oil, Sage Oil, Perfume
All of the ingredients have a purpose for being there, they are not used to fill out the product like many other brands.
The ground almonds are used to help buff and polish the skin making it a mild exfoliator. The kaolin is an exfoliator and a mild cleansing agent, glycerine is moisturising, chlorophyllin water is an antiseptic, full of vitamin C and helps regulate sebum production. Nettle, rosemary and rice vinegar has many uses, it is antibacterial and full of iron, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Rice bran is full of vitamin B and it is known to help the circulation and help cell growth which will give you brighter skin. Gardenia Extract is used to add colour but is also being researched for its anti inflammatory effects. Rose absolute is used to help calm irritated skin. Chamomile blue oil is used because of its Antibacterial, anti inflammatory and antiseptic properties and the sage oil is used for its antiseptic qualities and very fresh smell.
This cleanser is advertised as a cleanser that will gently exfoliate and calm any troubles which you may have with your skin. After trying so many different products at various price points I was a little sceptical that it would make any difference to my skin. Some products which claim to calm breakouts and oily skin can cost easily twice, three times and more than this product sells for, Currently £6.25.
The advisor showed me how to use the cleanser, a tiny amount in your hand, a few drops of water and rub it on your face, that's it.
Since I have used the herbalism cleanser I have not had one breakout and I know I am using something which is natural and full of ingredients which are good for your skin.
Next time you use something to clean your face, look at the ingredients first, do you know what they are and what they are doing to your skin? If not, look at lush and if there is anything you are unsure about either e mail them or ask a member of staff in Lush and they will explain everything to you. Definitely worth at try. preservatives Read the complete review |
