Nivea Creme
by misslopi
My mother has always sworn by Nivea Crème and has used it for years and she has lovely skin even now so it must be doing something right. I use it sometimes in the winter time when the weather has taken a tole on my skin as it is really rich and creamy and when my skin is dry it is just what I need to put some moisture back in it and ... make it feel more comfortable.
The little blue tub of Nivea costs next to nothing when you compare it to today's brands and I can still pick some up in the local chemist in my town for 99p so it is really good value. This is only for the little pot but as I don't use it very much it is enough for me but for people using it every day larger tubs are also available.
I love the smell of Nivea Crème as it has a really delicate almost floral fragrance that is really comforting.
The crème itself is a thick white cream.
I use this on my face but also on any dry patches of skin that I have. I have body moisturisers but this just gives my skin that extra boost. I only use this at night in the house though as it is far too rich for my skin to wear during the day. I have tried wearing it during the day and applied make-up on top like I always do but this left my skin shiny and really greasy feeling and the make-up practically just slid off it so now I just stick to using it in the house when I feel like I need an extra moisture boost.
I use this mainly in winter when the weather has made my skin ruddy and a little bit sore. My cheeks sometimes get dry and sore in the winter and as soon as I put this on my skin it starts to soothe it and if I put it on at night and go to sleep then my skin looks and feels much better in the morning and the sore dry bits have usually all gone.
I have also used this as a make-up remover when my skin is feeling particularly sensitive and it actually does an ok job of removing my make-up. It would never take the place of proper make-up remover or of wipes but it does get the majority from my skin and leaves it feeling less sensitive.
I will probably always continue to buy Nivea Crème even if the main reason is that it is just something that I have grown up with but I do like it. It isn't suitable for me personally to use all time but it is a good cream nevertheless and it does help my skin when it is sore, dry and sensitive. Read the complete review |

Nivea Creme General Purpose Cream
by SusanLesley
When I was a little girl in the late fifties and early sixties there was no such thing as sun cream - at least not at a price affordable by ordinary people! As I am a fair skinned redhead my mom used to smother my skin with Nivea Crème to try and stop my skin burning. I can remember her putting it on my shoulders and it melting as my ... skin (and the sun) was hot! She also used to put lots on my pink skin when we got back to the B & B too to try and minimise the discomfort of any sunburn. It sounds terrible now but in those days we didn't know any better!
The main thing that I can remember though is the fragrance - I love the sweet creamy smell of Nivea and, whenever I smell it now, I am transported in my mind back to the happy family holidays of yesteryear.
Nivea itself has been made using the same preservative free formula that they have been using since its inception in 1911. Before you ask I don't go that far back! The blue pot containing the crème hasn't changed much either - it is still very simple in a lovely shade of dark blue with the words NIVEA crème written across the top in white. I have an idea that the containers were tins in days gone by but I may be mixing that up with something else. The containers these days are made from plastic and have a screw top.
Whenever I unscrew the lid to use the crème that lovely, sweet, familiar fragrance wafts out - I never tire of this smell. The crème inside is white and thick but not solid. It is absorbed very quickly into the skin and does not leave any greasy residue.
The crème allegedly 'provides the skin with all it needs to stay pure, nourished and smooth'. It is suitable for use all over the body and for all the family - young and old alike, and it is dermatologically approved.
I use Nivea when I need a bit of intensive moisturising on my arms and legs. Once it has all been absorbed my skin feels lovely and soft and I can smell that wonderful fragrance off and on all day. I don't use it on my face as I do love my Oil of Olay for my face.
Currently, in Boots, a pot containing 50ml of Nivea would set you back £1.49 and one containing 200ml is £3.39. Of course, once the pot is empty, it can be recycled with your general plastic recycling.
In conclusion Nivea has been looking after me for over 50 years and I still trust it just as much today as I did then.
And that smell ............................................. lovely! Read the complete review |

Nivea Visage Q10 Skin Refining Serum
by MrsD76
I purchased this serum when it was on offer a while ago now, but hadn't used it too much until recently. It costs £10.99 at full price but is frequently discounted.
~~~~~~~~~~~
What's a serum?
~~~~~~~~~~~
A face serum is different to your usual facial moisturiser as it is really concentrated so you need very ... little, and it is designed to penetrate deeply into the skin. They often target specific areas such as wrinkles or fine lines and should be used before moisturiser. The jury is definitely out on whether or not a serum is an essential part of your skin care routine, but I can be a bit of a sucker for trying out new things!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A light gel texture
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This comes in a small plastic bottle with a pump action dispenser at the top. The packaging is pretty underwhelming really - just a basic white bottle with some blue and yellow lettering. This is very simple to dispense, and as you need so little I find just one pump of the dispenser is about enough. The serum has a slightly pearlescent look to it, and it appears like a light gel with the same texture as a face lotion.
This sinks into the skin instantly as you apply it, and it is really easy and quite pleasant to put on. It takes no effort whatsoever to put on as it does sink in so instantaneously. Straight away my skin is left feeling silky smooth, and it doesn't leave behind any residue or feeling of greasiness or stickiness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tightening sensation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This also has a slightly tightening feeling on the skin. Nothing dramatic, but I can definitely feel the skin tightening up very slightly after applying this. I leave this on for a moment or two before applying my usual moisturiser, and the serum underneath doesn't interfere with this at all.
~~~~~~~~
In summary
~~~~~~~~
I really like using this product. It definitely smoothens the skin and it provides a nice smooth base on which to apply moisturiser and then make-up. And I do actually think it makes some difference to the appearance of my skin - it feels smoother and healthier, and although I'm not going to claim it works miracles, it does give a slight tightening effect and does make my skin feel lovely.
Perhaps this isn't an essential purchase - however I really like using it and I do think it has some beneficial effects on my skin. For £10.99 I don't think it's a bad purchase and I would consider buying it again - but I would definitely recommend waiting till it's on offer! . Read the complete review |
