Olay Total Effects Wake Up Wonder
by zombieflesh
I'm a bit of a beauty addict and love to try out new products. I was lucky enough to receive a free sample of this Olay Total Effects Wake Up Wonder moisturiser directly from Olay as part of a promotional campaign. You can find this product in most high street beauty stores and it costs RRP £13.99 for a 30ml bottle, although I did note ... through the dooyoo shopping links that this is currently selling on Amazon for £8.78 which is quite a bargain.
Product description: "Total Effects Wake Up Wonder is an age-defying moisturiser providing 7 age-defying effects in 1 product PLUS a lightweight formula, with mint extract, to wake up creased, tired looking skin.
+ Visibly reduces the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
+ Hydrates for a healthy, radiant glow
+ Firmer skin appearance
+ Improves skin surface dullness
+ Smoothes and evens skin texture
+ Minimises the appearance of pores
+ Helps to prevent damage to skin's surface."
Directions for use: After cleansing skin with an Olay cleanser, smooth this moisturiser on to your face and neck.
I received a 7ml sample size tube of this product, which was enough to last me for just under three weeks of using it each morning on my face and neck. The full size version of this product comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser, but my smaller version is a simple tube with a screw-top lid. The moisturiser itself has a pure white colour and is quite light in consistency so it flows easily from the bottle. It is easy to spread over my skin and gives a refreshing cooling sensation which is nice when using it first thing in the morning. The cream absorbs fairly easily without much rubbing, and sinks in fully leaving my skin feeling smooth and soft to the touch.
This is not aimed for any specific skin type, and the claims above will be appealing to most people. I have a standard combination type complexion, which requires a bit of delicate balancing as my T-zone across my forehead, nose and also my chin can become oily if not treated with the right products. I'm also prone to suffering the occasional blemish but thankfully this is becoming rarer as I'm getting older. I find that this Wake Up Wonder is perfectly suited to everyday use and is lightly moisturising without leaving a heavy layer on my face and neck, instead my skin seems to soak this up really quickly and I feel like it's getting to work properly instead of just sitting on the surface of my skin. I always apply a light layer of foundation to even out my skin tone and hide any imperfections, and this product prepares my skin to create a smooth base before putting on my make-up. Despite my tendencies to break out in oily patches, I have noticed that with frequent use this moisturiser helps to keep my complexion balanced and I do not end up with a shiny face by the end of the day.
I have been pleased to note that this product really delivers what it claims to. It certainly does have a lightweight formula, and the mint extract does seem to help my skin look less tired. I only have a few minimal lines & wrinkles as my skin has only recently reached the stage of starting to show signs of ageing so after just a few weeks I haven't really noticed any dramatic effect here, although there are already visible improvements to my neck in particular. My skin is hydrated with each application, feeling soft and smooth to the touch, and giving a healthy radiant look. I have very pale skin which can look dull especially if I have my standard dark undereye patches, but this moisturiser creates a lovely effect which gives a brightened appearance with a light dewy sheen all over. It also helps minimise the appearance of pores which I believe is what prevents my skin from becoming oily as the day wears on.
I am glad to have received a sample of this product to try as I probably wouldn't have been drawn to it had I come across it in the shops. It is a good all-rounder and provides just the right touch of moisture that is needed for everyday use, giving my skin a soft, smooth finish and a healthy, dewy sheen. I can definitely recommend Olay's Total Effects Wake Up Wonder and will most likely make this product a priority choice the next time I need a new day cream. Read the complete review |

Olay Gentle Cleansers Conditioning Milk
by prettypolly40
***Why I want the product***
In my younger years I used to use Oil of Ulay as it was called then, mostly their moisturiser called Beauty Fluid that comes in the pink plastic bottle. The reason why I used it then was because my Mum used it and I liked the way it felt on my skin even then. But growing up I moved away from Beauty ... Fluid and away from Oil of Ulay all together. Surprising all those years Olay (as it has been rebranded to) as made a full circle back into my life. I have even reverted back to using Beauty Fluid periodically but now I have been converted to Olay Essentials Conditioning Milk for Normal/Dry and Combination skin types.
At night I always double cleanse, once is to take my makeup off and the second cleanse is to really clean my skin without rubbing all my makeup, dirt and pollution back into my skin. Since getting older and my skin type changing I need a product I could use purely to remove makeup but a product that would not aggravate my skin or make some problems and issues worse for my skin and me. Before I used to use one cleanser for both jobs but because the cleanser I use is very gentle based for sensitive skin I noticed a lot of the time even a double cleanse it would not remove all makeup as it was so gentle and not meant to remove makeup.
Hunting for something that I knew would be up to the job and good in price, I did not hesitate to look any further when I came across Olay Conditioning Milk when I saw it while browsing in the Internet.
***Tell me a little about Olay Conditioning Milk***
I was after a cleanser that was purely milk based due to the formulation being gentle enough for my sensitive skin, yet strong enough to remove all traces of makeup. Olay say this formulation of caring cleansing ingredients that contain extracts of Aloe and Cucumber, helps to dissolve away dirt and makeup to cleanse effectively and condition the skin.
With this product Olay say their conditioning milk has been blended to be the mildest and gentle on the skin yet perfect to use daily without irritating sensitive skin. With extracts of Aloe and Cucumber, to help dissolve makeup, dirt and grime that has built up through the day.
It is dermatologically tested, which means it will not block pores, again another plus for me and my acne prone skin, which happened as I got older *sigh*.
***Packaging**
Olay Conditioning Milk comes in a 200ml plastic tinted white bottle, tinted so you can see the white product inside the bottle. The hourglass bottle that is slightly nipped in at the waist has a long hourglass sticker on the front with the new re-designed and updated look. It has a clean and fresh feel with light blue from the top working the way down to show a deeper ocean blue with the famous Olay logo in the middle of the background. The back tells me a little about the product, how to use and ingredients.
***Ingredients***
Olay Conditioning Milk has ingredients that help with inflammatory such as Aloe Barbadensis and Cucumis Sativus which is also a moisturiser. pH Adjusters such as Citric Acid and Sodium Hydroxide (which I am surprised to see this is classed as a 5 (high) on skin irritant scale.
***Applying the product, and how it feels***
Opening the lip top lid and squeezing the bottle gently released a very creamy, light, white cleanser on my fingertips. I can smell a slight cucumber scent and maybe Aloe but it is not very detectable. Spreading the conditioning milk onto my full face of makeup, the product feels very soothing, cooling and refreshing. I found you also do not need a lot of product for it to spread all over my face but when I am wearing a full face I like a little more product so I can massage it in more and spread it around my face for longer.
Gently massaging Conditioning Milk into my skin I can see my makeup dissolving away in quick time, so if you are in a hurry or one of those people who do not like to spend long on their beauty routine I find it does not take me long to remove all my makeup. I never have to be heavy handed either, which is a plus, gentle massaging movements is all you need to remove makeup effectively.
You can remove this cleanser with cotton wool, wet or dry, rinse off by splashing water onto your skin or the way I do it and that is by a muslin cloth, which I have used for years and years and still it is the best way for me. I have tried to move this product with dry cotton wool and found the cotton wool comes off and leaves parts on my face; I also found it difficult to remove. Damp cotton wool was easier but I found it left a light film on my skin that felt greasy to me I also needed two cotton pads to make sure it was all removed thoroughly.
After cleaning I was glad to feel my skin did not feel tight or dry but more of balance so you know this product is not stripping your delicate skin of its natural oils. I found it is good at removing makeup but do not try to remove eye makeup with it as once it gets into your eyes it will sting and Olay advise against this on the directions for use on the back of the bottle.
***Price and availability***
If you like the sound of this product you can purchase from a range of high street stores including Boots and Superdrug. Boots.com it is priced at a very reasonable £2.99 and the same price from superdrug.com
***What I think about it/do I like it?***
For the money I paid I think this is a brilliant product for removing makeup very affectively and a product that is not harsh on my skin at all. I have gone through three bottles of this product and still satisfied with it.
***Would I purchase again?***
A full size 200ml bottle can last me around four to five months and that is using this product once every day for the price I think that is fantastic value for money and would purchase again, after all I have all ready gone through previous bottles. Read the complete review |

Olay Regenerist Replenishing Cream
by Graygirl
I've been using Olay moisturisers since I was a teenager, back in the olden days when it was still Oil of Ulay. When I first began experimenting with make-up, both my mother and my grandmother suggested that if I was going to wear cosmetics then it was also time to start taking proper care of my skin. It was excellent advice, and I've ... always been grateful for it. I have used Olay more or less ever since, with occasional forays into Estee Lauder, Lancome and Elizabeth Arden when funds allow - or when I am sent or given a lovely freebie or gift.
At the RRP of £21.95 (I found it for £12.92 online), this is by no means a budget moisturiser. Nor is it as expensive as premium range skincare such as Estee Lauder and Lancome. At both price points, I think it falls within the same price range as Boots No7's skincare. .
Over the years, Olay has always suited my age and skin type, and I've tried a number of their ranges. I love the Regenerist range, and the Replenishing Cream has been a real pleasure to use.
It comes packaged in a black and red box (slightly different to the older packaging shown above), reflecting the colours of the Regenerist brand. There's a little plastic window on the front so that you can see the tub of moisturiser within. At the base of the box you are offered 'dramatically firmer younger looking skin'. I'm afraid I foolishly discarded the box after beginning my last tub, so I can't pass on the normal info you would get there. However, a list of ingredients can be found on the Olay web site.
On opening the package, you are presented with a reasonably smart creamy-pink tub with a see-through black lid. You are able to see how much product there is inside the tub, and can see the level change as you progress - especially if you hold it up to the light. On pulling up and removing the lid, you can then see the curved top, which has a small hole at the centre. You will first need to remove the tiny gold label that protects this opening. Pressing down on the dispenser produces a little 'worm' of product. I think some people will like this type of pot, as there is no need to dig out any product with your fingers, and thus the cream stays nicely hygienic. I have always found this dispenser easy to use, even though my hands and wrists are on the weak and feeble side. When the tub is finally empty, you will no longer be able to push the dispenser down.
I like to rub the cream gently into the palm of my hand before applying it. I read in one of my beloved glossy magazines that this warms the product, and makes it even easier to smooth onto your skin. Then, using your fingertips, apply the moisturiser onto your face and neck. I find that one full depression provides enough product to cover my face and neck. You should be careful to avoid contact with the eyes, and if this occurs, rinse with water. The cream has a delicate and pleasant fragrance, and it is easily absorbed into the skin. You can use a serum first, if you prefer, and there are two serums available in the Regenerist range.
According to Olay's website, this cream has an 'advanced new formula that contains the peptide Carnosine', which apparently gives additional anti-oxidant power, and it also contains pentapeptide KTTKS - another anti-ageing ingredient. These amino-peptides are designed to regenerate the cells in the outer layer of your skin.
I really like the effect this moisturiser has on my skin - both instantly as well as long-term. My skin feels soft and plump, and well cared for. Although I recently used the lovely Estee Lauder Resilience Lift cream, I sadly found that it was too rich for my skin, and so I reverted to my tried-and-tested Regenerist Replenishing Cream.
Olay say that this moisturiser contains light diffusers, which are designed to soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles. I was surprised on my very first application of this product to find that this actually was the case. When I look in the mirror after applying the cream, my skin looks as if it is wearing a slight 'veil', disguising the worst of my wrinkles (although I have to confess that I don't have too many - mostly above my upper lip).
Regenerist Replenishing Cream is quite rich, but is not at all greasy. It's designed to provide high levels of hydration, which with regular use should help make your skin feel firmer and more elastic. One of its promises is that it will help keep your skin looking younger - and I'm all for that! I'm 57, and I intend to keep the years at bay as best I can.
This cream can be used both morning and night, but I have always preferred something richer for overnight. You can also use this product together with the Daily Regenerating Serum. I use serums, and like the extra benefits they offer, but I also like a moisturiser that will deliver everything I need in one product. I have found recently that the Replenishing Cream is not quite enough for my very dry skin when used on its own. I suspect that this might be because of too many cold winter days - so a serum has definitely helped. Generally, though, this cream leaves my skin feeling beautifully soft and well-moisturised, and it has served me well for a few years.
Olay's Regenerist line consists of a wide range of anti-ageing moisturising treatments. As well as this Replenishing Cream, there are also: 3-Point Treatment Cream (also available in a Fragrance-Free version); Flawless Skin Cream SPF30 (this would suit me, as I have had skin cancer twice); 3-Point Super Serum; Daily Regenerating Serum Fragrance-Free; Eye Lifting Serum; Night Recovery Cream; Night Renewal Elixir, and Wrinkle Relaxing Complex.
Olay is made by Proctor and Gamble. The product is good for twelve months after opening, and both the outer carton and the tub are recyclable.
Prices for the Regenerist Replenishing Cream seem to vary widely. The RRP is £21.95, and the best price I found today (6th March) was £12.92 (with free delivery) at Amazon. You can purchase this product at a wide variety of high street stores and online outlets. Do shop around, especially online. Boots currently have it for £21.95, and are offering '3 for 2 mix & match across selected skincare, body care, No7, indulgent bathing, self-tan and vitamins - cheapest free'. It costs £16.99 at Superdrug (their website is offering free standard UK delivery until 10th March). Feelunique have it for £18.30. I remember snapping up an excellent offer at cheapsmells.com some time ago, when I bought two tubs, and I also remember how delighted I was with my bargain.
From my own experience, I think that Olay's Regenerist Replenishing Cream is ideally suited to a woman in her 40s or 50s who has dry skin. I've used it - and loved it - for years. However, I am starting to find these days that my ageing and very dry skin needs a bit of an extra boost. I actually got in touch with Olay, explained my concerns, and asked for their suggestions. In the meantime, I had a look through their various ranges, and decided on a particular cream. Olay responded quickly and thoughtfully, suggesting the same cream. So, once I've used up my current pot of this Replenishing Cream, it will be time to wave - a possibly temporary - farewell to this lovely old friend, and start getting chummy with her big sister. Olay Regenerist 3-Point Treatment Cream, here I come!
Given my experience with this moisturiser, I am happy to give Olay's Regenerist Replenishing Cream five stars.
