Soap & Glory Peaches & Clean
by KLockwood75 As you may have guessed from previous reviews, I am a bit of a Soap and Glory addict. One of the most recent products in my ever-expanding collection is 'Peaches and Cream', described as a 4 in 1 wash-off deep cleansing milk. I bought this as part of a resolution to take my make-up off properly and, consequently, spend less money on ... facial cleansing wipes - to be honest this hasn't actually worked as I still get through a lot of wipes, but this product has now become part of my morning routine. * The Product * 'Peaches and Clean' comes in a transparent pink plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. Like most Soap and Glory products, there is a lot of text on the bottle with various claims about the product. Minimalism is not part of the Soap and Glory brand vision. Moving on to the claims, the first claim is that this product 'purifies, can energise and melts away make-up'. Sounds impressive, although I am sceptical about the idea that make-off will melt away - slide off your face in hot sunshine maybe, but not actually 'melt away'. The product also claims to have a 'special clogged T-zone formula' - again, sounds good and I had more confidence in that part actually being true. Finally, we move on to the ingredients, to quote from the bottle these are "peach extract (with skin smoothing fruit acids), quillaja bark (a gentle natural soap), jojoba oil (an emollient skin softener), Detoxyboost technology (to help purify and deep-clean) and Poreshrink R2 (for a clearer, fresher, brighter complexion)". Clearly the last two are those made up words that the Soap & Glory brand seem to be so keen on, but the sentiments are good. Anything that is gentle, smooths and softens skin, purifies, deep-cleans and brightens my complexion has got to be worth a try. Application of the product is simple. You massage a 'splodge' (one squirt from the pump is probably enough) on to your cheeks and continue to massage it over your face in circular movements, paying extra attention to any problem areas such as the T-zone. Once massaged in, you simply rinse off with water. I have found that the product works best when applied to dry skin. I do tend to use it in the shower for the sake of speed in the morning, but I dry my face quickly with a towel before applying it, and then rinse it off under the shower when I have finished. On the days where I have a bit more time, or the rare occasions when I actually bother to use this to remove my make-up before going to bed, then I usually spend a bit longer massaging it in and then rinse with water before cleaning off any remaining cream with a flannel. When applied to damp skin in the shower, it tends to slide off too quickly for me to massage it in properly - this is ok for a quick wash after a run for example, but not great for effective facial cleansing. The lotion itself is a white colour, with a smooth, relatively thick consistency and a fresh, fruity fragrance. The predominant scent is of fresh peaches, mixed with a hint of something creamier - the smell definitely lives up to the product name. * Does it live up to its own hype? * Well, yes and no really... It is effective as a cleanser for removing face make-up such as foundation and blusher, but useless at removing mascara. To be fair, it does say on the back of the bottle to 'avoid contact with eyes' so it's fair to assume that it isn't designed to remove mascara anyway, but it doesn't even really take off the panda eye smudges that I get when I've only half-heartedly swiped my mascara with a cleansing wipe the night before. My skin does feel fresher and brighter when I have used this product - there is a little bit more radiance and the condition of my skin feels softer and smoother. I haven't noticed much difference in my pores, although they are not a particular problem area of mine. On the downside, I do find that it is a little bit more drying than I would like - I do always wear moisturiser anyway but I definitely can't skip the moisturiser after using this. There is also a slightly concerning piece of small print on the bottle which states that the acids contained in this product can cause skin photosensitivity - to be honest, I haven't noticed my skin reacting any differently to the sun since using this, but I do always wear a moisturiser with SPF and my foundation also has an SPF so I guess I'm pretty well protected on an average day. * Price and Purchasing * Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean is available from Boots (and Boots.com) for a RRP of £7.00 for a 200ml bottle. Like all Soap and Glory products, it is likely to be available on 3 for 2 promotions on a regular basis. * Would I recommend it? * Yes, as a basic creamy cleanser which removes facial make-up effectively, then I would recommend it. I think you need to be aware of the fact that it is not an eye make-up remover by any stretch of the imagination so you either need a separate one of those (any recommendations?) or some decent facial cleansing wipes that do remove eye make-up (the Simple ones are my favourites) but it is a relatively good mid-priced cleanser. The other advantage, like a lot of Soap and Glory products, is that a bottle lasts for ages - I have been using this one for a few weeks and would expect it to last me another couple of months at least. There is a bit of an issue with dryness so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for dry or sensitive skin. I also think you do need to be aware of the photosensitivity issue - everyone's skin is different and we all react to sunlight in our own way but, if this is an issue for you, then at least make sure you have a good facial sunscreen. I'm awarding this four stars as overall I'm happy with the way it performs and would probably buy it again. Read the complete review |

Soap & Glory Hand Maid Hand Cleansing Gel
by eilidhcatriona One lunchtime recently I went out to get a bar of chocolate. Somehow when I got back to the office I had bought the bar of chocolate, toothpaste and three Soap & Glory products. In my defence, they were on a 3 for 2 offer and I only bought the little products so I didn't spend loads - mini versions of shower cream and body butter, ... and Hand Maid cleansing gel. I was only going to buy the hand gel, but it seemed silly to pass up a 3 for 2 offer... I've been using hand cleansing gel for several years, and although I've tried various brands, I usually stick with Carex. Having discovered the joys of the Soap & Glory range in the last several months though, I just had to try their Hand Maid gel. Priced slightly higher than most hand gels at £2.50, it is a pink tinted clear gel, and claims to be anti-bacterial. Although one of the reasons I use hand gel is because it refreshes grubby or dry hands, I also like that it is usually anti-bacterial, so knowing that this prettier hand gel also had this quality was a plus for me. I was delighted to discover that the Hand Maid is scented with what I think of as the typical Soap & Glory fragrance, which I've recently learned is called Original Pink. This fragrance is what initially caused me to love the Soap & Glory range, and it is addictively floral with a hint of fruitiness. However as is to be expected with a hand gel, this fragrance fights with a rather alcohol-like smell, which is typical of many hand gels - I suppose that is the anti-bacterial/disinfectant side of the product. I find that this smell is what you notice from the gel itself, but that once rubbed into the skin, it is the Soap & Glory fragrance which lingers. As a refreshing hand gel, the Soap & Glory Hand Maid is excellent. It is very easily absorbed into my skin, much better than the various own brand products that I have tried, and on a par with Carex. It cools my skin, which is perfect after travelling on public transport now that summer seems to have decided to put in an appearance. I use the hand gel after reading the paper, and it does a very good job of cleaning newsprint off my fingers. It also removes sticky marks after eating an orange or spilling Diet Coke. I also find that while it isn't a substitute for hand cream on very dry skin, if my hands are feeling just a little dry or rough, a dollop of Hand Maid helps. The anti-bacterial qualities of the hand gel are difficult to test, as it's almost impossible to know if it actually helps kill bacteria. I haven't caught any bugs since I started using it, but then I might not have caught anything without it. After several weeks of regular use, I've used about a quarter of the little bottle, so it seems that it will last for a while. I only need to use a little bit at any time, and if I use it twice in succession, it's only because I like the smell, and not because it is ineffective. Soap & Glory Hand Maid may be more expensive than other brands, but it's not ridiculously so - and as it allows me a pick-me-up sniff of my new favourite fragrance while sitting at my desk, as well as being an effective hand gel, I'm happy to pay that bit extra. Soap & Glory Peaches & Clean
by VampirePrincess I am not a die hard Soap and Glory fan but there are a few products of theirs I have grown rather fond of. Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean - 4 in 1 Wash off Deep Cleansing Milk: 'Our special clogged T-zone formula Includes peach extract (with skin smoothing fruit acids), quillaja bark (a gentle natural 'soap'), ... jojoba oil (an emollient skin softener), Detoxyboost technology (to help purify and deep clean) and Poreshrink (for a clearer, fresher, brighter complexion). In our opinion it's the best cleansing milk on the market!' - www.boots.com My Findings: I first used this last Christmas where it came in the hamper from Boots. I am now on my third bottle, I have used other products in between but I have found this to work well on cleansing my skin. Hence why I keep going back! This product is for all skin types however I would say if you have rather sensitive skin I would avoid or at least do a tester on the back of your arm or neck first. The first few times I used this on my face my skin did seem to tighten up slightly. So moisturising straight after was a must. It is nice and easy to use just rub over dry skin applying a little more too greasy areas and rinse off with water. That simple! I noticed straight away that my face appeared more cleansed and even had a little glow to my cheeks. My problem area is my nose so I always add a little more to that area. For me, this product has helped my skin no end. Getting close to my 30's you would think the break out stage would be long behind me. However it does happen and this Peaches and Clean certainly gets it under control and fast. It undoubtedly gives me a confidence boost as no one wants dull, spotty skin! I even have my mom and sister using this and they love it. My mom being 56 and my sister 34 it has gave my mom a brighter complexion and like me, my sister has controlled her break outs. The cleanser is white in colour, medium consistency and has like a fruity mint kind of aroma. I personally like the fragrance of it and you can smell it on your skin for awhile after too. This is a dermatologically tested product. What I didn't know till recently is that due to the acids in this cleanser it can make your skin photosensitive. Lucky for me my moisturisers contain UV filters and my foundations have SPF in them. Otherwise you're going to be needing to break out the sunscreen! It comes in a pump tube which I found really handy just pump the top and away you go. So far I haven't had any issues with it clogging etc. The packaging is fun and fresh which will appeal to most. Price and Availability: This normally retails for around £7.00 and lasts me just over a month so again I found this good value for money. Also at times you can get this on offer for 3 for 2 so worth looking out when in Boots. Overall: For me I do really like this product, it cleanses my face well and leaves it feeling clean. I can always notice a difference after using. It has an unusual scent which I rather like and is brilliant at spot fighting. Only thing is I really like exfoliating products so if this had some soft beads I would render this as perfect! Four out of five stars from me. Additional Information: The scary list of ingredients! Aqua (Water), Isohexadecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cyclohexasiloxane, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Propylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Dipropylene Glycol, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Tetrasodium EDTA, Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit Extract, Gynostemma Pentaphyllum Leaf Extract, Sorbitol, Glucosamine HCl, Urea, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract, Algae Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Citric Acid, Linalool, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide Read the complete review |
