Witch Anti Blemish Skin Clearing Primer
by thehonesttruth
I'm a member of RedditGifts, a companion site to reddit that essentially organises mass Secret Santa swaps several times a year. One of the more recent ones they did was a make up exchange. The general idea is that someone would send a little care package of various makeup bits and bobs to me, and I would send one on to someone else. ... This is always quite fun, as without knowing each others tastes, you can end up with some very surprising items - or in this case, an item you're not quite sure what to do with.
I had never, before receiving this, used a primer in my life. I didn't know I was meant to, having never been particularly adept at makeup. I'd just slap on some foundation, layer on the lippy, and I was ready to rock and roll. But apparently, primer is a pretty good idea - essentially it prepares your skin, mattifying it and giving a good base for applying foundation, helping to ensure a smooth even look. This particular primer, made by Witch, has some additional added features - it contains Witch Hazel extract to protect the skin from spots and blemishes, and it forms a protective barrier between your skin and the foundation, stopping it from clogging up your pores and causing nasty spots. It also claims to be soothing and hydrating.
The primer, which is dispensed through a pump action lid (two pumps should be sufficient) is white in colour, with a whipped creamy texture. It doesn't really have much of a smell to it, and is easy to rub into the skin, blending in well, and leaving no sticky residue and no marks on the skin. I can't see any visible difference to my skin when it's just primed, but I do find that it does keep my make up properly in place once applied - I particularly notice the difference around my eyes, my shadow doesn't tend to bunch in the creases as much.
This costs between £4 and £5 in chemists and supermarkets, and is pretty widely available. I do think I will buy this, or another primer, once this runs out, as I do find using one makes a difference to how long my makeup lasts on my skin, and I imagine not having to constantly top up and reapply will actually save me money in the long run. I don't know how good this has been at preventing spots, since I tend to only get them very rarely and then as a reaction to stress, but I have noticed my skin is a little less oily since using this (it's been around a month now).
It's not a product I would have picked up myself, since I wasn't aware of what a primer was or why I might need one, but I'm glad my makeup secret santa sent me this. 5 stars! Read the complete review |

Witch Exfoliating Face Wash
by Chippytarka
This was one of those spare of the moment purchases that caught my eye doing my monthly grocery shop online. It was half price, and I thought I would give it a go.I have plenty of facial products sat in my bathroom that are lovely and easy to use, but currently my skin is craving something alittle more hardworking to help with stressed, ... uneven and blemished skin. I thought it was about time I gave this product ago and have been using it for the last week.
What is this product?
Its a gentle facial exfoliating wash for the face. It helps skin feel and be smoother, clearer and cleanse pores with help from the micro granules in the product. It contains witch hazel extract which has some of the following properties:
It can calm down swelling and brusing
Its a strong anti-oxidant and astringent
Treats insect bites effectively
Aids the treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema
Helps combat spotty skin
What does the packaging look like?
The wash I purchased is 150ml and in a pump dispensing bottle, which states on the labelling its limited edition.Whether that is still the case or the norm I dont know. The bottle is plastic and in a turquoise blue colour. The bottle for me could be stronger and more durable. The reason I say that is the more you use, the less product is in the bottle and the bottle loses its strength. It ends up being very squishy (if there is such a word ) and I dont like that. I can see problems with getting the product out the more its been used. The labelling is basic and simple, and explains clearly what the product is. This packaging for me is quite youthful and maybe marketting more for teenagers, early 20's as the colour and overall look screams it to me. Product has shelf life of 12 months once opened.
How do you use it?
Dampen the face. Place a small amount onto the tips of your fingers and massage into the skin using circular motions.Rinse of with water and towel dry. It does say on the labelling its suitable for all skin types, but especially for oily and combination skin, which makes sense due to the clarifying element of Witch Hazel.
How did I find it?
Product was very easy and simple to use in the shower. It doesnt latther up, stays quite milky/lotion like. You can just about see the granules in it as they are very small and the product itself is milky clear in colour with white dotted micro granules. Product was easy to wash off and left my skin feeling clean and not dried out, even after towel drying. The smell is sutble, clean and the best description I can use is its a gentle mix of antisepteic and marine smell. Very unisex and doesnt interfere with the smell of other products placed on the skin. The appearance of my skin is alittle smoother in touch and sight. Two mini volcanoes that were trying to erupt on my face in the form of spots were eased, got smaller, started to heal and are nearly gone. Overall, this will be one of those products I will slot into my routine often.
I have checked for the price of this product and it is between £3.15-4.00. Would buy again, especially at half price! Read the complete review |
